The pandemic has given so many artists forced free time that they have become more accessible than ever. Interacting with reactors on KZread wouldn't even be a thing unless they had huge channels with millions of views. Hour-long discussions with people really interested in their music instead of short interviews by mainstream media interested in gossip are probably a breath of fresh air for the artists as well as the fans.

Floor said in an interview and on her spotlight episode of 2019 Beste Zangers that she often wasn't getting her moneys' worth at the rock academy, because she wasn't always being taught what she was most interested in...then an instructor from the music theater realm came and started teaching there, and she really got into it. So it's no surprise that she gets into portraying what she is singing. I think in another life she might have gone into music theater as a career. She also said in the BZ episode that she doesn't like the "happy happy joy joy" musicals, she is more into the dark ones, hence the Phantom and Jekyll & Hyde covers....

I think we have finally found a role that Floor cannot convincingly play, that of the weak, submissive, helpless woman. Whether it's her "Christine", her rendition of "Adagio" or this role, her attitude is more like, "Bring it on tough guy!"

They are just great together and such a marvelous pick of song! Loved the duet so much!

This is a good one. Although they aren't in the same location the music is quite well mixed. I watched it when it first showed up on Floor's channel and will certainly enjoy watching your reaction to it. Cheers, Steve

Even though Henk may not have been in character as much as Floor he sings with such an intensity I just could not take my eyes off him. I am a huge Floor fan but he just puts so much power and intensity he just stole the show for me. Especially when he nailed those high notes. An amazing performance by them both. I hope he comes on your channel!! I will be there as soon as it posts!!

Our previous generations, who had a greater connection to classical music, were hated the noise of metal and rock. Classical music almost disappeared completely away from musicals and opera events. Now Floor Jansen comes the goddess of metal, sits down in a show, meets Henk Poort there and brings this music back to us in a slightly modified form. I'm a metalhead and I can't get enough of it. I want more. I hope the two go the way a little further together.

Well, Floor didn’t just meet Henk Poort, she was fangirling already a really long long time over Henk and grabbed the opportunity when she heard he would also be on De Beste Zangers. She had a longtime wish fulfilled, singing together with Henk.

Coyote - Nightwish had Phantom of the Opera already in 2002 on their album. The point is, that “bringing back” classical music mixed with metal is already decades old... seems you missed it...

@@janjanssen9629 I didn't miss anything. You can believe that. It's not about a song that a metal band has taken over. It's about explicitly 2 worlds meeting here and making music together. That is not the same thing. PotO has been covered infinitely often. The point here is that there is now the possibility to expand all this again substantially. I've listened to Nightwish's version of PotO 1000 times and still remained stubborn metalhead. In the cooperation between Floor and Henk but I actually feel like going to an opera or musical. These are two completely different pairs of shoes. Especially since Nightwish only sang for their fans. That was not carried into the world so to speak. That only happened through this TV show.

Creepy and sensual is a perfect description, Christi. What I also like is how Floor makes the female character we worry for ... be a lot more than just helpless ... there's an assertive touch to her singing that is very much HER and that lets us worry less for the character, for she lets us know she's 'got it' ... As for Henk, his theater background shines, and though understated in some ways, he certainly is embodying the creepy seducer trickster character that one's instincts tell them to NOT want to be alone with ... This is so well done! Deliciously done, this. (and, yeah, creepy ... ;) ) PS yay for Henk Poort reaching out to message you last year. What a mensch. She has several people helping her out. Some are people she knows in Sweden, some are friends in the business in the Netherlands. I know Joost van den Broek has been helping her out on some songs, he used to play keyboards in After Forever. These days he's also a producer for bands such as Epica.

I've watched on YT the Broadway 1997 version starring Linda Eder and Robert Guccioli. It's very passionate and intimate performace. They are very close each other there. Here we don't have that kind of intimacy at all. I consider today's Henk a little too stiff elderly "statesman" for that. I sure can't perform as long as he without blinking my eyes 😅. Vocally they are excellent, even superior. 🗿👍

Stage performance is a far cry from two people singing say 500 miles apart and do that by splicing videos together. One can't compare both.
