I wonder what the CU looks like in this place? Some of that bodged "wiring" reminds me of our house when we moved in: Surface mounted outlets, insanely routed trunking, and holes drilled between rooms to run plugged in flex "spurs" (more like nested extensions). Lighting circuits and fixtures were from original build in the 60s, entire cable literally crumbling to dust in my fingers.

My guess that the light switch is from the 50s or 60s, not seen one of the 3 piece switches since the very early 90s when my gran got updated switches and sockets

The diy is so shockingly bad here I'd just do a whole rewire so there isn't something dangerous knocking about inside a wall somewhere.

Lots of houses in Belfast had lights beside the windows when brit soldiers lived in them so there was no shadow and they couldn't be took out by a sniper
