that's one of the best movies I've ever seen...I read the book few years ago and it's wonderful too.

Probably the best steps of a true and good geisha will seldom be recorded. Most I've watched in youtube were just maiko's, i.e. geisha apprentices, or traditional (very slow and ancient) dance shows performed for foreigners. The low quality of many videos makes it even harder to appreciate their colorful shades, on the other hand. I especially recommend all of you kabuki and noh theatre, as well as Gion festival's shows for better examples of traditional Japanese scenic arts' beauty. ^^

Apart from this, we must note the important difference between styles of Japanese traditional theatre. Noh is slow and deep, so refined and sophisticated, while kabuki is faster and closer to middle people. Perhaps that's why this latter is the most well-known of both in Western countries.
