Dance Gavin Dance - We Own the Night

Forget my jealously
You swallowed the demons on your own
There's nothing left for me
I keep thinking back to when you said
"We own the night"
Stomp that feeling; your puke is a mutant
Can’t think of who did this, well I grew stupid
Say accidents happen, it’s admirable acting
Flicking the back of your ear with my finger
Separate is the way though, no second is the place though
Just fake it through the day and the night is your god
See you in battle; your boat is my paddle
Your life is my business; your plaque on my wall
Let your hair down have one more round
Drink til you believe it
Sloppy kisses, dirty wishes
Baby, this is living
Roller-coaster
Up and down in random motion
Oh come in closer
Ditch your problems, better days are coming
Get up off the wall come on get down get down
Give into moment and live now live now
Get up off the wall come on get down get down
Give into the moment, feel it now
I have the heart of a coward
Here in my arms is exactly where I want you
We own the night
Stomp that feeling; your puke is a mutant
Can’t think of who did this, well I grew stupid
Say accidents happen, it’s admirable acting
Flicking the back of your ear with my finger
Separate is the way though, no second is the place though
Just fake it through the day and the night is your god
See you in battle; your boat is my paddle
Your life is my business; your plaque on my wall
You’ll forget I’m wrong
Call your phone and open my fate cuz I know you're so connected
I need poison mitigate my pain
Feel my toes go golden up in flames
Give me false hope in my veins
Tranquilize and modify my brain
Where did I go wrong?
There's nothing I can do the thrill is gone
So I play these nervous songs
Pretend that I’m not barely hanging on
And medicate
Medicate
Medicate me all night long
Medicate
Medicate
Medicate me all night long
Do it again, do it again, do it again, now grow.
I run quickly out of air, by the way I hate your celebration
I run quickly out of air, by the way I hate our aging faces

Lol @ people pointing out bad lyrics as a weak point of the band... Jon Mess has always written incoherent lyrics for tracks because he just fills words in to fit with his unclean vocals... Hence why the only album that has strong lyrical content is Happiness, because he wasnt part of the band. DGD is not a sappy "sing along" band, the vocals serve as their own chaotic instruments.

Dance Gavin Dance is a great band because they sound great, but if I was forced at gunpoint to expand upon that, I'd say that they're great because they're never lazy. They always put more work than necessary into a song. Some bands just go "Okay, hook, verse, hook, verse, ship it." but DGD just seem to only put out stuff that they've put an inordinate amount of time into. This song, and many like it they've done, could very well have been three completely different songs instead of one singular and much more captivating song. Like, take "On the Run" for example. Do you really think they unintentionally dropped the rhyme "anyone" despite the "run" and "done" in the first and second verse respectively? No. It's all meticulously planned and it shows. And THAT'S what sets the band apart.

ryot4ever It's all personal opinion. I always preferred Kurt Travis until I heard Acceptance Speech. I've listened to that CD 2-3 times a week since it's release, dead serious. Something about it engulfs me in this amazing feeling. I have all their old stuff, and they've always been talented, but I'm a human being with a preference and that preference is Tilian.

WTF DGD!!! I didn't think I could more excited for this album but holy crap they sure made it happen. Mingus is on point as always, Tim's bass is sounds fat as all hell, Tillian has perfect vocal parts, Jon tears it up as always and really sounds powerful on this track, and do we even need to discuss Will Swan's God status? This may replace Downtown Battle Mountain II as my favorite album if they keep it up

I absolutely loved jonny in the downtown battemountain albums, it was beautiful, but im happy he left. Kurts voice to me fit the band the best. Now this is Tilians time to shine, and i really think hes doing a great job of putting his place in the band.

kingboostudios Fantano should get hit by a bus for making that disgusting review. The sad thing is because of that video, his idiot impressionable fanbase are confident in calling this band "shit", whereas had the review been positive, not a single person would be like "No they suck". His fans just eat up whatever he says, it's so sad.

***** You're an idiot. You said it was objectively bad. They have a large fanbase with extremely positive support. You have discredited yourself beyond redemption saying they are bad without a doubt. I never said they blindly deserve 10/10, you are making a huge jump... You definitely said they are factually bad however, which for the reasons I mentioned is embarrassingly stupid. Try again halfwit.

This really harkens back to the self-titled/Death Star album for me, I felt like a lot of the songs on that album, e.g., Caviar, Me and Zoloft Get Along Just Fine, etc., simultaneously imagined love and break-ups as both literal and figurative wars between the two parties involved. That's the theme with which my perception connects and draws upon while listening to this song.
