    The part where Jon used his normal speaking voice before screaming threw me for a loop. It made me realize I don't think I've ever actually heard his voice NOT screaming.

    Jon's bridge into the breakdown is my absolute favorite part of this song, this song is easily top 3 of my favorite singles by them.

    I replayed that part literally a dozen times or more the first days. The rhythm guitar sounds radical.

    I could understand mixing up who is who sometimes, because in some songs when they do a back and forth between tillian and andrew sound a little similar. Andrew can hit some notes like tillian but yes its not his normal

    This song is pretty much outstanding to almost nearly any of their discography in my humble opinion 😁 the beginning is pretty much the darkest tone of everything I heard from them and the breakdown was fabulously arranged

  • @CruikshankSCP
    @CruikshankSCP8 ай бұрын

    This song is by far THE DARKEST song that Dance Gavin Dance have put out, "Man of the Year" and "Say Hi" are dark as well but nothing comes close to "War Machine." Also I got goosebumps when Tilian sang the chorus. The first line "Didn't wanna have to sing about a tragedy/(But they've been) Overwhelmingly consuming me," is clearly a reference to the passing of their bassist Tim Feerick Obviously, no one wants to talk about a tragic event in their lives. They would rather move on and forget about it. But there are times where that event is so powerful, then it just eats away at whoever it affected. And the only way to pretty much let it all go is to express it whether it be through music, a scene in a novel, movie, tv show, play, etc. The passing of Tim really hit Tilian, Jon, Will, Matt and Andrew and everyone who knew him HARD. And it consumed them to the point where it almost destroyed them early on after. But they were able to push through that pain and recorded two songs about it. "The Ghost of Billy Royalton" was clearly talking about Tim and how the band is reliving everything that they did when he was alive and his favorite things like Star Wars and Jurassic Park "War Machine" on the other hand, while I am not entirely sure what the rest of the song is about, the chorus is about trying to move on from Tim's passing, but Tilian can't. It is consuming him to the point where he needed sing about it and bring some closure. I am not good with analyzing stuff like this, but i hope it makes some form of sense. So excited for you guys to see them over there in Australia. They are a great band and probably really cool dudes to talk to about whatever

    Agree with the take that Andrew’s voice allows the instrumental more dynamics while Tillians voice is so dynamic that you lose the instrumental as the focus. I like both them on the song though, I think both contrast really well with Jon’s screaming. I’m a big Eidola fan, I like their work as much as DGD. I want a new Eidola Album while Andrew continues with DGD and more crossovers into their respective sounds.

    Another really good recommendation is “a lot like birds - trace the lines” the instruments and the vocals along with the music video is just so beautiful I believe the main vocalist for the song is Kurt from dgd

    Loved the song and the heavier vibe! I still haven't listened to Secret Band (which basically is darker DGD without Tilian), BUT another DGD-song that you would probably like Johnny is The Rattler! It doesn't have a video so no need to react to it, but you should definitely listen to it :)

    Johnny, I'm 100% on your side with the self-checkout thing. I've always queued up for the employee aisles rather than self-serve. It's mostly out of a rejection of companies trying to "automate" (or whatever better word) as many jobs as they can, with a minor benefit of those little human interactions you get. Oh, and the song was good, too.

    I always love the videos and reactions but I hard disagree with the idea that Andrew and Tilian sound alike. They are so very different in range, tone, and just overall vocal approach. However, they compliment each other well and I agree that at times, Andrew's vocals allow the other instruments and sounds to be more prevelant.

    This is probably the best performance from Andrew since Evaporation imo. This has a ArSe/Mothership sound, and it’s so refreshing to hear this heavier kind of song from them. JJ was really good, but it was all pretty fluff and a little repetitive, but these last two singles have been a step up definitely. Great reaction video. I usually hate reaction videos but not from u guys
