Dan Vasc - Nessun Dorma (Giacomo Puccini's Turandot Cover) - First Time Reaction

The song is about a prince who falls in love with a beautiful, but cruel and emotionally cold princess. In order to marry her, the prince must answer her three riddles, or he will be beheaded. The prince solves the riddles, but rather than immediately marry her, he gives her a chance at freedom by giving her a riddle of his own. She must guess his name by morning. If she guesses it, he dies and if she does not, they marry. The name of the song, Nessun Dorma, means "none shall sleep", because the princess has decreed that no one in the village shall sleep that night, until someone discovers the princes name. Dan has had classical training and sings this masterfully with power and emotion. Rock on Dan Vasc!

I saw Luciano Pavarotti in concert while living in Houston in early 90's and heard him sing this. Definitely a night to remember. When I heard Dan sing this, I was absolutely blown away by his abilities. Gives me goosebumps every time. Dan's father was Italian, musician, and loved Pavarotti, Bocelli, etc. I saw something online once about Dan's Mom apparently being an opera singer, but don't know details. Opera was definitely an influence in Dan's life. He also did a duet of Time to Say Goodbye which is really good, too.

As a longtime opera fan and major voice junkie, I enjoyed watching you experience this. Opera is drama in music, and one of its hallmarks is that it demands very highly trained singers with incredible stamina, who can sing to a large auditorium, over an orchestra, for hours, UNAMPLIFIED. No mics on the opera stage. I have no doubt that Dan has the voice to have been an opera singer if he had put his mind to it, but this is one only aria from a long and demanding opera. So he's not an opera singer, but he can sing opera arias, and very well too. And on the other hand, opera singers can't sing Burn Butcher Burn either! Both opera and metal push the outer bounds of the human voice, and both take long and specific training. I'm constantly astonished at his stylistic range, which is as mind-blowing as his vocal range. I think he's just sensational. Thanks for giving this a try!

I found this information about the song. "Nessun Dorma is an aria from the final act of Giacomo Puccini's opera Turandot and one of the best-known tenor arias in all opera. It is sung by Calaf, il principe ignoto, who falls in love at first sight with the beautiful but cold Princess Turandot. Any man who wishes to wed Turandot must first answer her three riddles; if he fails, he will be beheaded." I didn't know that either. Anyway, Dan's father was Italian and he and Dan would listen to opera when he was a kid and this was evidently a favorite of theirs. I think the emotion he exhibits while singing it reveals how much it means to him. Thanks for reacting to this. We can always appreciate good singing, no matter the genre. Looking forward to more Dan.

Seventy one year old grandma of two here❤ Dan and his father when he was young used to always listen to opera together. Those are very special times for him. And when his dad passed away 6 to 7 years ago His dad hadn't seen him reach his singing ability. So it's very emotional for him. I know when he's sang the "American Trilogy"cover originally sang by Elvis, he sang and dedicated that to his father 5-6 days after he passed. His harmonica he plays in "Amazing Grace " His father gave him at 7 or 8 yrs old. Dan isn't afraid to show the emotions he feels. Thank you for reacting to more and more that Dan shares . Sending blessings 71 yr old Grandma of 2❣️⚘️

This is an aria from Puccini's opera Turandot. Dan Vasc doesn't strictly adhere to the rules of classical opera singing. But that's exactly what makes the song so exceptional. Dan is not confined by the rules of classical singing; instead, he allows himself to make changes while singing this opera aria, making the song sound even more powerful than we've known it before.

G'day Josh, You wanted a bit of a synopsis of this aria, well here goes... The hero, Calaf, is one of 3 suitors for the hand of a very picky Princess Turandot. In a weird challenge the hero says that if the princess can correctly guess his name she may execute him, but if she fails she must marry him. In a sociopathic plot twist, the princess decides that "None Shall Sleep" (nessum dorma) in the entire kingdom until Calaf's name is discovered. If none of her subjects are able to come up with the correct name all shall be executed. The aria begins with the princess' proclamation that None Shall Sleep, and that's where the tenor, Calaf, picks it up... Yeah, it's a kinda scuzzy move on both of their parts, but people do some crazy shit all in the name of Love... 🥴 Dan does an incredible job with this one, but then again, everything he does is beyond brilliant... If you want a more modern touch of opera, Dan has done a couple of numbers from The Phantom Of The Opera, with female guest partners that are more than well worth the time...he purports himself very admirably indeed...😁 Love me a bit Dan Vasc any time of the day, or night...😉 🙃🐨🇦🇺

It’s my understanding that Dan’s late father, who was half Italian, dearly loved this opera. He died 7-8 years ago, from cancer. He and Dan were very close, and Dan performed this piece as a tribute of sorts to his father. I believe that his mother is a former opera singer, as well. He’s got music in his genes!! Dan is up there with the Greats on this one, blows it out of the water in fact. So much power and emotion. I have always loved a Tenor voice, not into the deep Bass Voice... If I close my eyes and listen this could well be Pavoroti one of the greatest Tenor voices ever.. this was a World wide hit for him in 1990 World Cup (football/soccer) so most everyone over 35 knows it instantly on this side of the pond.. Great reaction, and love the hair too, it suits you down, rather than tied back.

I feel what stands out in Dan's performance of this song is the response of how many people have no background in opera yet along comes Dan Vasc and we have people experiencing what they've never listened to or have little experience with. That he exposes people to something new is big - at least in my book. The perfect Super Bowl half time show would be Dan starting it out with I'll Make a man out of you. Follow that with one of his witcher covers - then either this song or Gethsemane (another one you should check out) and then wrap it with his version of amazing Amazing Grace. He has so many other options but anything would be a worthy show, dare I say far better than what we've been given in the past five to ten years. That said, appreciate your honesty regarding opera and yes, Dan has skills (he hates the word talent) beyond description.

You 😮should really listen to O Holy Night, that has so many surprises in it and it’s a beautiful rendition of the Carol but also a surprising rendition of of this Carol. I said in another reaction Dan and Victor are not from this world, they came from place far away in the Galaxy where everyone has beautiful voices or played musical instruments with such panache that it leaves you gob smacked. But they weren’t happy and decided to leave, so they got on their rocket ship and flew to earth and ended up in Brazil and started to play their music, but Dan still wanted more and one day he was listening to the band Petra singing their song Jekyll and Hyde and fell in love with the style of music which was metal and vowed to himself that one day he would learn how to sing metal music and voila Dan Vasc was born. But the voice remained, what comes out of his mouth is not singing its otherwordly, ethereal, not of this world. Dan could be a little green man living on the moon as long as he had that voice he’s a legend to me and when he has Victor by his side he’s got it made.

Oooh! A double dose of handsome manly men! 😍 thanks for another Dan reaction, Josh ... could not hit that play button fast enough!!😅 Opera, like metal, is much more of an aquired appreciation, I believe. It may seem strange and even off-putting at first listen, until you wade in and start to learn more about what makes them the genre's they are. I'm still learning to appreciate both, myself. Dan, and a few other excellent vocalists, have made my exploration of both singing styles such an exciting and enjoyable experience. I hope you continue to explore Dan Vasc's impressive catalog of music, with hair down -of course!😂 ❤ please check out Dan's show tune/operatic covers of; *Gethsemane * Music of the night * A million dreams * Time to say goodbye 😊😊

Thank you for trying this video. It helps to understand the breath of his sing skills. He was quite young when he sang this and I am amazed at the power of his voice. I don’t really like the song, but I love knowing that Dan could sing it so well. It is fun to know all the styles he can sing. Music of the Night is a really great song. It is in English and a musical theater song from Phantom of the Opera. It is not an opera song. Dan’s incredible acting and singing skill shines in this song. It is much easier to appreciate than Nessun Dorma. It is a powerful, beautiful song. It truly highlights Dan as a unusually skillful artist, on so many levels.

When I first heard this, I thought geez, tell me he’s had classical training without telling me he’s had classical training! This man has a gorgeous voice. I’d love to see your reaction to Diana Damrau’s rendition of Queen of the Night (the one where she’s in black-the other one is great singing but i don’t think the set really contributes).

Luciano Pavarotti famously sang Nessun Dorma. No disrespect but I like Dan's performance better. It's fair that opera may not be your thing, but you never can tell. Was never interested in metal music until finding Dan. My husband (a metal fan) often gives me querulous, sidelong glances and grins when he hears what I'm listening to 😃and is impressed, as are you, with Dan's ability to sing many genres of music.

If you watched the political miovie "Sum of All Fears " toward the end of movie when the villians are being dispatched most deservedly so. This is the music playing in the background it adds an intensity to that part of the story. You dont have to understand the words to be spellbound by the music and intensity..
