"My Immortal" a wonderful cover by Dan that he did almost 6 years ago. With Dan you can never be sure what he will bring out of each song. He amazes me with his ideas to make each one special. As has been mentioned here, after his 1 million subscribers, Dan wants to make his own music. When Dan covers a song, he now pays more attention to quality rather than quantity. I love this song, for many reasons. When I saw that you had reacted to this, I knew I had to watch your reaction, and I was pretty sure of how it would go (even before I read your entire title). When you got to the place in the song where you shared why you put that phrase into the title, I could hardly wait, and you didn't disappoint, and obviously, neither did Dan. That place, however, is the place where the song begins to tear me up (as in pull me apart...not make me cry...except that it does both). It already did, even before April 2023 -- shortly after I had heard Dan's "Amazing Grace," but I hadn't yet heard this cover -- right before my sister-in-law passed away. Since then, when I hear Dan sing this song (from the male point of view), I cannot help but picture my brother singing it, because the story IS the story of his wife and him, for the last several years of her life. Interestingly, there had been several years where SHE had nursed HIM back to health, and then for those last few years, the whole story was flipped. The descriptions in the song are SO very close to what both my brother (and my sister-in-law as well) had texted to me over and over again. SO similar. SO close to home. I've shared quite a few of Dan's songs with Gary (he sings, too, as we all do), but I can't share this one with him. I've wondered if maybe I SHOULD...but I just can't...because Dan DOES sing it exactly as it should be sung. It also does remind me that he did this one about eight months after his father passed away. He could well have been thinking of his father, and perhaps his surviving mother, when he decided to do this cover, or perhaps just his own cut-short earthly relationship with a father who had been dealing with cancer for at least a year (from what I've read) before he passed away. There are, of course, so many different scenarios that at least most of us can look back to when we hear this song...if not for ourselves, then for someone else who has been through a similar trauma. Personally, I feel that Dan absolutely has done the best version of the song...ever. I also feel, now, that you have absolutely done the best reaction to Dan's cover of the song...ever. Thank you.

I've heard that Dan said, that he is aware of his impact on people with his vocals, as he reads it the comments all the time. That's why he has become more mindful in selecting the lyrics and types of songs he sings, shifting his focus to songs that empower and strengthen people. And that's why he won't cover Evanescence anymore.

If you haven't reacted to his cover of Bring Me To Life, you really need to. In typical Dan fashion, he did his thing and yet, kept the greatness of the original. I'm a longtime Amy Lee/Evanescence fan and I actually think he elevated it to another level. It's a great cover if you want to see several of the tools in Dan's vocal toolbox in one song, too.
