I love your commentary! It's great to listen to people who really understand what he's doing. And, yes, energy and joy and lots of smiles are flooding out of him on this one - I thought he might pop out of his skin at a few points there. What a voice, what a masterful singer! Great guitar work from Garrett too, as well as a perfect arrangement by Dan and Gabriel. I love everything about this. Thanks so much for gracing us with your insight and appreciation.

😂 Yes! You took the words out of my mouth. He always seems to perform with an underlying sense of joy. I don't know why, but I can imagine him performing on stage in very dramatic musical theatre - perhaps 'Phantom of the Opera' . Whatever he did, he'd bring fantastic energy. I'm not into 'metal' but I enjoy listening to Dan - great voice. Thanks Juliet 🤘👍

I concur. It is, of course, the nature of his habitat - Power Metal - that loads of joyful energy are displayed, just look at the vibe of Helloween, Rhapsody, Dragonforce, Manowar... makes you feel up to any challenge in the world. Very uplifting and motivational, and that character indeed shines through in this rendition by Dan. Who'd have thought that this song needed that? Works brilliantly!

Dan did a couple of Phantom covers; Music of the Night is phenomenal. He also does an incredible cover of Gethsemane from Jesus Christ Superstar. I could see him on Broadway.

He's big into Power Metal which is basically the happiest genre of metal you can humanly imagine. Freedom Call, for example. That happiness and upliftingness has clearly infused into his voice.

You seriously need to check out Gethsemane, The Music of the Night, and Nessum Dorma to see a whole different side of Dan. Metal might be his first love, but you can't put him in a box. I would love to see your analysis of his operatic and theatrical side. You don't know what you're missing. At any rate, more Dan please.

I agree with the other commentor about Dan's more operatic selections. Would love your take on the three mentioned. Nessun Dorma more operatic but Gethsemane and Music of the Night are like a stage performance where you can imaging Dan on Broadway.

@@calebritter3659 Fair question. An athlete can detain a world record for decades, then comes along the athlete that tops the performance by quite a stretch: is it a lack of respect towards the former champ to recognise the new record? I think not. Let's consider the art of composition -as it was originally- with freedom of interpretation following the interpretation of several artists: the artists tweak the interpretation and influence the evolution of that composition, some of them taking it to an upgraded 2.0 version, going down history as a new standard. Look at what happens with Bach, Ravel, Moussorgsky a.s.o. I greatly admire Andreas Scholl as a countertenor. He was surpassed however, for certain Baroque compositions, by renditions of Philippe Jarousky. I still have great respect for Andreas Scholl. And for Celine Dion, no doubt about it.
