I still can't believe Dan Snyder threw in the white flag. The Washington Commanders (formerly Redskins, formerly Football Team) have been sold to a consortium of people led by Josh Harris. The only way to celebrate this is to go over all the hits (or at least most of them). This is a reign that will be seen as the gold standard of ineptitude and how not to run a professional sports franchise.
This one's a doozy. May we never speak of this again.

Years ago I worked for a northern Virginia construction company that helped build FedEx Field. After years of the company having a season ticket account, the years of failure kept piling up, and the company decided to cancel their season tickets because no one with an IQ above room temperature wanted to see the on-field clown show. Washington used to be one the absolute best franchises in the NFL before Snyder. Their SB winning teams are considered some of the best in history and he singlehandedly tanked the franchise into being a punchline. The franchise never was one of the best, or 'storied', or any such rose-colored nostalgia. You can narrow the success down to two mini eras. The early-to-mid 70s with the good, but ultimately overachieving 'over-the-hill' gang of George Allen. And if you ask Sonny, he'd say it was that *one* year of Lombardi coaching that really turn things around. And of course, the 80s-early 90s with Gibbs (augmented by the ability to win 2 Super Bowls in years with labor stoppages). Still not sure if that makes them more or less impressive. Other than those, what dozen and a half years? 70+ years of failure, nearly a third of that Snyder's.

@@Hexon66You could certainly say that the culture was actually damn good in those years. But yeah, outside of some solid teams in the 70’s (including the 72 Super Bowl team), Gibbs’ first tenure, and going further back, the career of Sammy Baugh, this franchise hasn’t done a ton. The Skins had the Snyder years, and they had a 25 year drought between Baugh’s decline and George Allen’s first year after Lombardi, where they didn’t make a single playoff appearance (no wild card sure, but a drought is a drought).

As a fan of both the NFL and Nickelodeon, I just fucking love how two of the worst things that have ever happened to these respective subjects have similar names. *Dan Snyder* needs no further explanation; his story is told in hilarious detail in this video. *Dan Schneider,* whose Nickelodeon sitcoms such as Drake & Josh, Zoey 101, Victorious and iCarly (my personal favorite) are regarded highly by those who watched Nick back then. But later on, there was a LOT of foot shit (you know what I mean) especially on Dan's later shows. Several abuse allegations and a horrific but great Jennette McCurdy autobio later, he's long been ousted from Nickelodeon. Their names are so similar, and they've done so much heinous shit, that I don't even think it's a coincidence.

Brandon Scherff, Brian Orakpo, Lorenzo Alexander, Dan Wilkinson, John Beck, Jason Campbell, Todd Collins, Tony Banks, Mark Sanchez, DeAngelo Hall, William Jackson III, DeAnthony Batiste, and Ryan Clark are all names which could be a full episode on their own and were unmentioned. This is before even getting into the list of current successful NFL head coaches that started as Commanders OC's. Kyle Shanahan, Sean McVay, Matt LaFleur, probably more that I am forgetting. Sad thing is it’s most likely go take years to replace all the damage Dan Synder has done to the Commanders/Redskins, and we’re not even talking about off the field
This was one of the longest Legacy of Failure vids I remember seeing and deservedly so. For me the Scott McCloughan episode was one of the most telling about Snyder's mismanagement of the team. While many of Snyder's mistakes involved hiring the wrong front office guy, throwing money at the wrong player or coach, or not paying a good player enough, the firing of Scott McCloughan was a RARE example of Snyder actually hiring the right guy for the job, then absolutely humiliating/brutalizing him because his toxic partner-in-crime Bruce Allen aka: "Mr. Nepotism" was jealous of his success. That episode showed to many that success was never Snyder's main goal, CONTROL was.
