What was the rod and reel u used to catch that halibut

i have a small 17ft open bow bayliner that i picked for lakes and its been a blast with the kids but now im learning to fish is my boat to small to hit the inside of the break water and go fishing

your boat is perfect for both the inside and outside of the wall. just pick your days and if the swells are large stay inside. Be safe.

Hey Dan what brand and size boat you have?

Hi Mr. Dan Such great actions and tips. I came up with one question while enjoying the video. In Marina Del Rey, Barred Sand Bass is warned to be unsafe to eat due to contamination. Are your basses different species or fishes itself are different in locations? Very admire your love and work to sport fishing, also your help to others

+Minh Trinh thanks for the nice words. I haven't heard that you shouldn't eat sand bass from Santa Monica Bay. I would think eating a few per month would be safe?

@@808rem1x I worked there about 20 years ago. I cant really remember names. Most people there where nice, except one of the servers who wouldn't share tips. The food there was really good too.

I know this is an older video but did you measure the fish? Rockfish have to be 15 inches and you should let people watching the video know this so they can practice good fishing practices. (I haven’t watched the whole video yet so maybe you will talk about this later...) anyways nice fish and any day on the water is a good day Edit: ya you measured the halibut 👍

Dan how do you get those hooks out of the sting rays? I caught one and it was all the way inside his stomach. it was a small lil bat ray

Next time just cut your line and tie on a new hook, it'll rust out of the fish in a few days.

Lizard fish are so aggressive I’ve caught one on a yo yo fishing for yellowtail

A old school tactic for running down yellowtail is too find bait balls with Terns on them, most of the time. Bait ball with Terns on it will have feeding gamefish under it! I’ve caught many fish under Tern boils over the years.
