Dan, my father was diagnosed with Polymyalgia rheumatica in the early 1980's in his early 60's. He too was prescribed Prednisone, which is a steroid, which made him "bloat up" in his face and upper body. He was a master craftsman whose life centered on heavy physical labor. At the time he was diagnosed, he was a maintenance foreman at an oil refinery so his daily physical stress was lower than when he was a younger man. A large and fleshy man, he already suffered from depression and poor body self image. The Polymyalgia only depressed him further and caused periods of near total withdrawal from social activities. He drank but he respected the bottle, never leaning on it in dependence. Prednisone was the only "medication" that medical science offered and it ravaged him over the remainder of his life. His activity level varied, as it sounds as it has been for you. He had "good" days and "bad" days. He suffered in relative silence, never complaining too loudly. He was one of those stoic infantrymen in WWII that appreciated each day of life without making a big deal of it. I'd like to say that there was a happy ending to this story but the Polymyalgia doesn't go away, it can only be relieved. I pray that the advancements in pharmaceuticals and treatment make your life easier and help you extend your years in relative peace and satisfaction. As to the "brain fog," I find now that I am approaching 70 that my own "senior moments" are more frequent and last longer. My life was as cerebral as my father's was physical and I watch for tell-tale signs of diminished capacity. Even 10 years ago I thought of myself as a 20 year old stuck in an older body... now, I'm not quite as certain of that. God Bless Dan, you've brought a lot of information and entertainment to us in a light and easy manner for years. Thanks.

Check out molecular Hydrogen and the new japanese lourdes hydrofix, it's done amazing things for my father and myself. It's hard to believe most people don't know about it, when a whole country like Japan knows about it and it's simply an amazing technology for health. My father had terrible arthritis and after such hydrogen treatment, he no longer has for need for his pills.

Dan Patrick and his show is what sports radio should be. All the Skip Bayless and Colin Cowherd shows are nothing but circus shows and listening to Dan is so much better and easy to listen to. It's been a breath of fresh air to wake up every morning and listen to the show. Prayers to you Dan and God bless.

Dan, 6' 4'' 240, thanks for sharing something so personal. I am sure those who have struggled with similar treatments and drugs in the past or currently can benefit a lot from hearing you struggled as well. Even when times get tough you kept on going and now the end of the pain is near. Things can look so bleak only to be turn around as time passes. Happy to hear your new treatments are working and hope your recovery continues!

I feel you brother. I was recently diagnosed with M.S. and the only treatment i have is chemotherapy every 6 months, they premed me with prednisone. My blood pressure rises, my heart rate rises, and i get dizzy and the last time I got short of breathe. Then they start the chemo. I tell them, "I was fine when I came in here and now your trying to kill me." I get cog fog sometimes, but i still go to the gym 5x a week. The only disability in life is a bad attitude. Keep a good attitude and never, ever, quit.

She uses this video to explain to those who don’t understand. Who don’t listen. Who don’t know. I watch often to remind myself. Sometimes I am ignorant to what she’s deals with. I took huge amounts of prednisone 25 years ago for ulcerative colitis, and had to stop after 2 years and have my intestine removed. Now I have psoriatic arthritis. There are some other things that help autoimmune illnesses such as diet changes, etc, but medication has also come a long way in 25 years. One thing I have had to learn in the past few months when I had a flare up is to listen to my body and stop to rest when it tells me. That's been a VERY hard thing to do but it is helping. I wish you the best with your experience and thank you for sharing.
