I wish he would have played two more years, because Miami finally had a defense that was good enough. Wannstedt with Jim Bates got the defense put together. Miami also had a running game.

He is my favourite player of all time. Wish you were still playing! You will always be Dan The Man!

@ Solid In those 10 losses the defense gave up an average of 34.5 points, but none of that is the defenses fault. The three losses with Johnson were bad, but outside of that Marino averaged 23.5 points per playoff game even with a one dimensional offense against the best teams that the NFL had to offer. Not only that, but teams would actively try to keep the ball out of Marino's hands. They would play dime defenses against 2 RB 1 TE sets, because they KNEW they didn't have to worry about the run. Teams would attempt onside kicks early in games as well. Both New England and Cleveland in the 1985 playoffs tried to run the clock out from the minute they stepped onto the field. The leading rushers for the dolphins had the following games: 1983: David Overstreet 50 yards and a fumble 1984: Tony Nathan: 18 yards 1985: Joe Carter 56 yards and a fumble 1990: Sammie Smith 99 yards 1992: Bobby Humphrey 22 yards 1994: Bernie Parmalee 16 yards 1995: Keith Byars 22 yards 1997: Bernie Parmalee 22 yards 1998: Bernie Parmalee 14 yards 1999: Autrey Denson 10 yards and a fumble None of these guys scored a single touchdown in any of these games. Outside of the three playoff losses with Johnson, Marino averaged 23.5 points per game, which was good for the time. My guess is that you probably never even watched football in the 1980s & 1990s and you are just here trolling.

This was the hardest day for all of us true 🐬 fans. Alot of. And I mean alot of people cried that day. But he's making probably THE hardest decision a pure championship class passer could make.

I cried like a little baby watching this. He was by far the best QB of All Time. The best. Not winning a Superbowl does not take away from those 30 records that you shattered. The 🐐 will always be missed

Shula wasted his best years with poor draft picks. Even Marino wanted a trade after the '89 season. Two teams wanted him, the 49ers and Steelers. San Francisco wan in '94, and Pittsburgh was a good QB from winning in '95. Marino could have been on either team. Then Jimmy, "THE SNAKE IN THE GRASS" Johnson comes along for a paycheck, destroys what's left of his career, then sticks the team with Wannstedt when the Dolphins could have had Shottenheimer for the '99 season. Johnson chose to come back to stick it to Shula one last time.

What an absolutely class guy, a great role model, appreciative, humble.and one of the greatest ever, that QB class of 1983 produced him and the likes of which we may never see again. The Greatest player the Dolphins have ever had, nobody even CLOSE to what he did for that organization. Maybe, some day it'll happen. He and Jim Kelly, both were outstanding players, neither of them won a super Bowl. But were absolute winners on AND off the field

It's too bad they didn't have a more balanced team throughout his career.I think they relied too heavily on his passing ability which can only get a team so far.Same thing was the case with Dan Fouts and Chargers.Once a team got up on them they knew they would be throwing on every down,NO QB can overcome that consistently enough to go to and win Super Bowls.

you could tell this press conference was tougher on him than any defense he ever played against.had he went to the vikings he would have had a great shot to win the super bowl with randy moss and chris carter but im glad he didnt. he is by far the best the dolphins have ever had. damn i miss watching him play.

Definitely the greatest QB of all time. Broke every passing record. Led the league 6 times in the most pass completions. Passed for over 63,000 passing yards in his career and at the time he did it was amazing. But never won a Super Bowl. He never had the great team like Montana. In the year he was supposed to go to the super bowl he fractured his right ankle. He had Michael Irving, Mark Clayton and Mark Duper. He had a great team then he got hurt. If he didn’t get hurt he would’ve had a ring or 2. If he had a ring he would’ve been considered the Greatest of all time. But he didn’t get it. In my opinion he is the greatest QB of all time

I just watched the last game by Dan Marino against the Jaguars. I saw the game on the day it was played and came away with Dan looking as bad as he could ever be, but on watching this short replay of the game I noticed a much greater team effort to end up with the 2nd worst loss ever. The entire team seemed to purposely want and make a sustained effort throughout the game to end up with the loss. It was that and/or the worst coached game by a coach whose ego could not get along with Dan's. jimmy johnson acted upset to a degree but didn't do much, aside from that, to make a difference so therefore added to it being the major loss as it was. The lack of tackling on both sides of the ball due to turnovers and the defence seemed to be on drugs. Special teams with at least the blocked punt. As I said it was a team effort to lose the game and everyone from the coaches to most all of the players had a major part in it. It was an embarassment to the game and it's long storied history and not the way one of the best quarterbacks to go out on. Last word, it just seemed like the fix was in to oust Dan outta the league and not very fair.

Dan Marino will always have to carry some level of baggage of not having that Superbowl victory. It is the goal in the NFL. I'm sure he sleeps fine at night though. Marino has said he wouldn't trade his HOF jacket for a Superbowl Ring. I believe that. As a personal achievement a HOF Jacket means way more than a SB ring. There isn't much reason SB rings should be in any equation for calculation of personal talent and achievement in the NFL. Mike Wilson has 4 Superbowl rings. However, Quarterbacks want to bring victory to the team. He can't share his HOF jacket. Most of his comrades are not in the HOF, I am sure any level of regret he has is that he didn't bring it to the team and fans, not as any way of validating himself.

The Vikings lost the 2000 NFC Championship game with Daunte Culpepper. Marino almost certainly would have made the Super Bowl. With Randy Moss, the Ravens would have had a hard time shutting down the Vikings the way they shut down the Giants. If he had went to Minnesota, he probably would have won a Super Bowl.

1. Montana - 4 Super Bowls and he was undefeated in those Super Bowls 2. Manning - Holds just about every record possible and has 2 Super Bowls 3. Brady - 4 Super Bowls but too much controversy surrounding him to be top 2 4. Elway - 2 Super Bowls and retired top 3 in every passing category 5. Marino - Retired top 2 in every passing category but never won a Super Bowl

Manning has them for two reasons, changes in the rules & he actually sought out those records. I remember him playing Detroit the year they went 0-16. Manning played deep into the fourth quarter and never ran the ball in the rezone so he could throw 7 tds in a 49-0 shutout. Miami never drubbed a team for statistical purposes

By the above logic, if the Browns had picked Brady they would have won 4 super bowls. Look at actual gameplay: Manning had his absolute worse season when he won his second super bowl. He won because of the team around him, at least half the QBs in the league could have led the 2015 Broncos to a super bowl victory. Elway was definitely better in his first three losses than he was I his two wins. He rode Terrell Davis to two super bowl victories. Montana, after leaving a stacked San Francisco team, couldn't get a good Kansas City team to the Super Bowl Brady - He won his first three playing on a team with a stacked defense, that only allowed 17.2 points per game in those three super bowl runs. While he played well, he was more of a game manager in those games. He won his fourth due to a major coaching mistake by Pete Carrol, not running Lynch on the goal line, and a bad throw by Russell Wilson, throwing an INT. Marino never had a team that was good enough to win a super bowl. He had poor defenses an no running game. You nee more than a QB and 2-3 good receivers to win a title.

Kyle, you pretty much got it Right On the Money ! .... Well Said ! A lot of Quarterbacks do a lot of great things led by great teams. I read a book about how Montana brought the 49ers to the Superbowl. I laughed so hard. That was a Team effort ! You see it Everywhere. Anyone with common sense could see that in poor Dan Marino's case, he didn't always have that great team behind him. In fact, he rarely did ! He set all them records amongst the overall "so so" Dolphins ! That was Quite a Task. Whereas you have all these other overrated Q.B's who are praised and loved, but looking through all the smoke and mirrors, it is the Solid team (offense and defense) that should be praised. I like what I see in Football. It's only my opinion. I liked watching Marino play because he had a Golden arm, so to speak, awesome quick release and super accuracy ! He was The Best to play the game, in my opinion. That other moron can take his little ratings sheet and shove it ! it doesn't mean Anything !!
