I see a lot of people in the comments who don’t know who Dan Gable is. He was a three time wrestling state champion in Iowa and a 2 time NCAA champion. He represented the United States in the 1972 olympics in Munich. He won a gold medal without giving up a single point. The USSR said they would “scour the east for a wrestler that could take down Dan Gable.” They failed. He then went on to coach at Iowa, brining them 15 NCAA championship wins. Recently, he was awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom by President Trump for his extraordinary performance as an athlete and as a coach. Edit: for all the people getting all political because he was award the Presidential Medal of Freedom by President Trump: this isn’t about Donald Trump, this is about Dan Gable. No matter which way you try to spin it, the man now has a Presidential Medal of Freedom. Fuck off, quit tainting the reputation of an absolute great of the sport with your political horse-shit. Facebook has done a great job of keeping those posts out of my feed...I don't see any of those things - haha! I grew up in Iowa - more people know who DG is than who the president is (well, back in the 80's they did). Later in the interview he talks about Lou Banach - I recall him and his brother, Ed, when they were at Iowa (when I was in HS) - jeez, those were some incredible teams.

The entire point of life: Jesus did not come to be served, but to serve. Mathew 20: 28. We are no different. This entire life is a representation of the spiritual warfare going on. Good vs evil. God isn't a flying man in the sky, but the actual representation of Love, Hope, Joy, Peace, Light, etc. Not metaphor, but literally, like an extra demintional wavelength of thought, emotions, and intent. The devil is the opposite wavelength, pain, fear, hate, anger, darkness, etc. Human life is serving one of these two. Not a man in the sky, actual sentient collective universal Love. However, humans are primatives, we make mistakes. It's in our nature, since the fall, to go down the wrong path. This means at some time each one of us has served darkness to some degree. God understands our limited understanding of our own actions, so he gave us forgiveness, though sacrificing himself in human form as Jesus Christ. It is our duty to accept that sacrifice, get the forgiveness, and be better, helping others be better, and spreading this wavelength of Love, Hope, Joy, Peace, Light, etc, thoughout the universe. But God had to make a way for us to get to this place spiritually, this is why evidence is not allowed. Evidence will make you believe, using the fear of absolute punishment to change your behavior, but that won't make you better, just scared. Faith makes you better. It is what redeemes us, not our works. Faith is the hope that things get better, that justice always prevails, that we're at least loved by our creator. But it has to be Faith in Jesus, because of his sacrifice. And there can't be evidence to point us to him, because Love had to be fair. If there were a code in our DNA, what about everyone born before genetic sequencing? If there were a book with the solar system thosands of years ago, what would stop an evil person from hiding/destroying it? If it were something you had to go to, what about the geographically isolated, imprisoned, or enslaved. If it were a train of logic, what about the uneducated, or mentally slow? Not to mention all the people born before schools. Love cannot give to one without giving to the other. So the key to salvation had to be something everyone has access to. The only thing is Faith. This is why God puts it upon your heart to learn about these things, even if it's only to criticize, or hate. God is everywhere, because Love is everywhere, and so is the devil, because hate is everywhere. They're in your head all the time, regardless of weather or not you accept that. They whisper inside your heart, giving you ideas. But more than that, they're inside everyone's heart. This is how they get things done. They corrordanate us like pieces on a chess board. The only difference is, we get to chose who's side we're playing for. At the end of our life, we go to that team's home base, Heaven, or Hell. A place where all that exists is those wavelengths. Hate, pain, anger, fear, darkness; or Love, Hope, Joy, Peace, Pleasure, Light. The choice is yours to make. But you cannot go to Heaven with hate in your heart. You must forgive, repent, and spread joy for those around you. These are sentient eternal controlling forces in our universe. Heaven and Hell are very real places, I've seen them. Those steps prime your soul for a meeting with God. Very literally. Once you've done all four, in that order, you get divine revelation, with all the evidence you'll ever need. They are, forgive your parents, break down before Jesus, ask for forgiveness, and read the Bible. Step four takes three books to get the revelation. I recommend Genesis, Mathew, and then either Luke, Psalms, or proverbs. The order of the steps is important, step 1 has to come before step 3. I had a teacher in HS that was obsessed with Gable. He told us a story about how he had sat next to Dan on a flight once and Dan had told him this story after my teacher had opened up about losing his first child to SIDS. Dan is a legendary human.

It needs a new studio and a comment section. Also for Spotify to actually listen to user feedback which they currently don't. One example being android TV app and smart TV casting still doesn't allow video.

This video was posted on the anniversary of my sister's death, the 31st of March 1990. My sister was a young mum to a 2 years old. She was murdered by a local man she knew. We spent the last day of her life together, as a family, unknown to us it would be the last day we will ever see her. It was a beautiful spring afternoon. We laughed and smiled and were happy. When the time came for my sister to go back home, she hugged us once and left. She came back a few moments later and hugged my mum one more time. I wanted to ask my sister if I could come along with her to her house and spend the night but I didn't say a word. Time and time again, I think that things could have been different if I had followed my thoughts and said something. It feels strange now to think about it. She was murdered that night. It's been over 30 years but her voice, her smile and her laugh still resound in my head like it was yesterday. I miss her. I am sad that she didn't get to live her life.

I saw in another article how he moved into his sister's bedroom (where she was murdered) so his parents wouldn't sell the house and move out. How he knew he had to keep them entertained so they wouldn't divorce . What a weight on one mans shoulders. When people kill they do damage to many people . This event definitely shaped Dan's life.

My mom had a sister and she died way before I or my sisters were born, she died in a freak accident and my mom told me that her parents, my grandmother and grandfather, were so low and couldn’t even focus on their other daughter because they were grieving for their first.

That's my late sister in my profile pic. Her Dday was yesterday Apr 3rd. It's been 5 years and it's still surreal. Losing a sibling is like losing a limb. You keep living, but will never be whole in the same way. Last words I said to her was, "I'm at work, I'll call you back later." Probably one of my biggest regrets in life. Always tell the ones you love how you feel and don't take a moment for granted.

Who is he?

My hero from my hometown. I grew up reading about Dan in the local sports pages. His accomplishments both on the mat and as a coach are legendary. But my favorite Dan Gable memory occurred one year at the national tournament. My mother was getting old and couldn't walk very well any more. She saw Dan and said hello. He walked as slowly as necessary so my mother could talk to him while my brothers and I trailed behind watching her have this moment with her hero. She was nobody, just an old woman in an Iowa Wrestling jacket, yet Dan treated her like she was the most important person in the world. He is an amazing human being.

I was so into this guy's story, I forgot it was on JRE until 8:30, when Joe reacted to the murderer saying he knew he would kill someone. Joe is such a good host. Not interrupting or speaking over someone is refreshing.

That's a heartbreaking story. I'm glad they got the guy and that there was some sort of closure though. So many people from back then never got closure because of how hard it was to solve crimes without modern technology and they just had to spend their entire lives wondering and wishing for answers.

My papa (Wayne Donald Wilson) just passed away and this man reminds me so much of him. He also wrestled in waterloo back in his day. Those Iowa boys are tough ❤ and have hearts of gold. They're loyalty towards family is insurmountable. Thank you for sharing this story.

There are few things more brutal to a person's sanity than the loss of a sibling. I lost one of my older brothers when I was a kid due to a hit and run (we never found his killer), and I lost another older brother a few years ago due to cancer. I was broken both times... broken to such a degree that I'm surprised I'm even here right now. All love to Dan... the pain is just too much, but he's stoic and admirable. Such a solid gent.

That last line is crucial. So many men, especially from his era sadly think that talking about your emotions and struggles is not for men to do. But he put it perfectly. We all need to communicate trauma and sometimes even what may seem mundane to process. I️ hope this helps someone realize.

Couldn't agree more. Most people hold onto all kinds of shit for fear of looking like a bitch ass. Fear looking weak to their peers. Fear of looking like a pussy to possible partners. Gotta let this notion dissapear, we all just need to sit down and have a really good talk sometimes. As painful or embarrassing as it might seem.

It's so sad that he carries a level of guilt for his sister's death.

I feel so weird because it's such as terrible thing, but how he responded to it is so mature. I feel almost like I lost and found my faith in humanity in the same conversation.

As a wrestler growing up this dude was the man. Yes, he was obviously a beast on the mat, but it was so much more. His attitude, theories, teaching, are just all top level. Amazing guy.

I’m bawling...for all of us. We’ve all got such deep struggles & experiences....that he went on to become such a stable & successful person is a testament to so much.

Man I couldn’t lose my sister, she’s my only remaining sibling and she’s really come a long way these past couple years. It’d ruin my family, I feel bad for this guy.

Communication. Thats the part that hits the most. Having lost a parent in a tragic accident right in front of me thinking maybe I could've done more, communication was something I never wanted to engage in about it. That hits hard

The P.O.S. who murdered my grandmother and grandfather is getting paroled in May despite a large campaign against it (Thanks Oregon). He's going to be released to relatives and will be staying less than 5 miles from my mother's house. I'm dealing with a lot of anger about this right now.

It know it sounds impossible, so impossible that giving you this advice feels flippant, but you gotta figure out forgiveness. Not for his sake, but for yours.

I envy Joe’s patience and allowing the guest to speak uninterrupted. I had several thoughts and questions as Dan was telling his story. I never knew this tragic event about Dan’s sister. I’ll have to watch this interview in its entirety.

"Long story short..." My mother was murdered in 1997 and most of the people I've met in the last 20 years don't know that because it's IS a long story, and it's tragic and heartbreaking. I know it was hard for him to share this but it helps people like me to know we are not alone in our grief.

SORRY for your loss Brother. THANKS for sharing the story as an eye opener as to how much power we have in words and our intuition. We need stories such as this for people to wake up.

I relate to this clip in so many ways. My big sister Danielle is my best friend and has always been since..well since I've existed. I was planning on meeting my sister on July 1st, 2019, but I couldn't make it. She was murdered the next day. When I got the call, I collapsed on the ground and began beating myself in the face. I didn't know what else to do...the sudden shock was so much that I just lost it. I thought about that when Dan described his mother collapsing on the floor banging her head. My sister's killer is still out there and I have a deep seeded anger now that I can't seem to let go...I am hoping that one day, not only will she have justice, but that I will be able to let go of this anger. I'm still waiting on my second call.

Damn man that’s horrific... I’m a big sister and my little brother- I’ve always called him my first friend, he’s still prob the most important person in my life. I truly truly hope your sister gets justice and I’m sure she hopes that you have found, or will find, a sense of peace 🤍 I know I would want that so badly for my little brother even if I was unfairly taken early and violently; and I’m positive she wants it for it you, more than anything.

Legendary Iowa wrestler...Went his entire college career without losing until his final college match...No one had ever done that....Went on to Olympic Gold Medals and at Iowa, eventually coached the wrestler who would best his record and go alln4 years undefeated

Dan came down to our local bar to promote his beer and take pictures with everybody. He was super super nice and talked with everyone.

I didn't move throughout this whole story. Such a sad horrible thing for a family to go through. The way he spoke about his mother's reaction brought me to tears.

Losing a child is probably the worst thing a parent can go through. My brother died when I was 13, my father has never been the same.

This whole conversation is tugging at every emotional string I have.

That's a horrible story, which I knew about many years ago.. Being a Minnesota wrestler, I've known about Dan Gable since I was 5 years old... Gold Medalist in 72 and didn't surrender a single point.. I gotta believe this tragedy contributed to his success.. May she RIP♥️

I grew up here in Indiana and Dan Gable was always one of my biggest idols. As a kid from a nobody family in a nowhere town where I never had anything and the only thing I ever wanted was respect, inspiration was rare for even the luckiest of people, I found the inspiration I needed from Dan Gable, yet, as I've never heard this story, I now have a much more profound level of respect for that man. It just goes to show the complexity of the human spirit and the tenacity of a motivated person. Thank you, Mr Gable. You probably saved me from an early grave and you don't even know I exist, which makes it that much more important to me. The only thing I wish from life now is the opportunity to pay that forward to the next kid in need.

What a heartbreaking story, my deepest condolences to the entire Gable family...

heartbreaking... i cant imagine the pain his mother endured... and the pain his father was going through thinking that his own son may be had something to do with the murder ... when he said that he killed her because she was a nice girl, that really broke my heart.

I could listen to Dan Gable speak for hours. What a genuine person.

That's some crazy shit. It's amazing how many millions (maybe billions) of stories there are like this with coincidences so crazy that they feel like it's a message from above. I had a similar experience with my brother when he passed on. I really feel for him and his family and I'm happy he got some sort of peace all those years later.
