Dampa-style Butter Shrimp is a popular dish at seafood grills or restaurants. Buttery garlic infused sautéed shrimp made better with a savory sauce made of oyster sauce, ketchup, and sugar, made slightly sweet with Sprite thickened with a cornstarch slurry. Ingredients :
500 grams shrimp
1 tablespoon oil
¼ cup butter
6 cloves garlic, minced
Salt and pepper to taste
3 tablespoons oyster sauce
1 tablespoon ketchup
1 tablespoon sugar
½ cup Sprite
Slurry (1 tablespoon cornstarch dissolved in 2 tablespoons water)
Fried garlic (optional)
Spring onion (optional)
Steps:
Clean, remove the whiskers, and devein the shrimp using a toothpick.
In a pan, add in oil, melt the butter, and saute the garlic. Add in salt and pepper to taste.
Pour in oyster sauce, ketchup, and sugar. Mix well.
Add in Sprite and mix till it slightly thickens into a sauce. Place in the shrimps and cook for 3 - 5 minutes till most of them have turned pink.
Mix the slurry and pour it into the pan. Mix till the sauce turns thick. Take this off the heat and serve garnished with fried garlic and spring onions.
