I've been in this situation (but unlike damon, I had the girl first). It fucking hurts! But unlike the show I stopped talking to her and let her be with the other guy. 4 years later I still think "what could of been." Living an eternity not being able to be with the person you love. I know it's fake, acting, but still. Sad scene.

OKAY. For all you lazy people who don't read books, ELENA STAYS WITH STEFAN. In the book, she stays with him. In the TV series, SHE WILL STAY WITH HIM. Don't get your little hopes up. Okay? Honestly if you read the books, you'd hate Damon to death. They make him seem much better in the TV series, but he's a jerk in the book. So, pick up the book and read. Because until you do, your not a true Vampire Diaries Fan.
