You critics are being ridiculous. This is obviously a rehearsal. Kiri even has a pen in her hand to mark up the score, and she looks at Previn to question him at one point. In the opening section, she's covering her mouth with her hand, something no singer would do in performance. It's not until it gets to the part in English that they're even trying very hard, and even then they're just testing things out. If you think musicians play "all out," all the time, you're nuts. This is the equivalent of a Tuesday run-through of a game plan by an NFL team getting ready to play on Sunday. They practice, they rehearse, they refine until they have it right for performance time. And it still sounds goo. Kiri Te Kanawa at 40 percent is better than 95 percent of the people who think they can sing.

@windstorm1000 well Autumn Leaves is not associated with Broadway and really, musicians can sing anything they love, nobody is forced to listen to it against their will, and an artist wouldnt really serve themselves or listeners by placing limits on their creativity or how much love they express both of these pieces are quite beautiful to me, and I am very very glad to have them available to listen to -Love

@theblueangel28 You are right--we go to the concerts of singers we enjoy, or buy CD's of people we like listening to--it IS taste thing. I really liked what you said about artists not putting limits on their creativity--That's one of the most intelligent, perceptive comments I've heard about artists in general here. Thanks for broadening my tastes--I still prefer certain things, but don't we all. Love to you back.

Why did he give that look at the beginning? Because she started a bit falls? Since you told me, now i know cause Ella never was. Jazz singers do not sing falls. It's still acceptable to be falls in classical world.

windstorm 1000: she started out as a pop singer. If you were able to see and hear this whole DVD you would see the way the music evolves between these four wonderful musicians. This bit we have watched here is an early rehearsal and Kiri is learning to sing jazz, which is another animal entirely. I don't think she sings anything like an opera singer here. Have you heard her sing opera? Breath windstorm, let it wash over you - it will be a much more enjoyable experience. With respect.

I love all of these musicians, but their styles are incompatible. It doesn't work for me. I LOVE Dame Kiri doing standards in her own beautiful style and of course Andrew Previn can do no wrong in jazz or in classical, whatever he chooses, but not together.

From head voice to chest voice is harder. Twice as many muscles used and not supposed to be with vibrato, for American jazz songs. She tried to step out of the box, once a while.

Why do opera singers insist on doing pop? Its like trying to fit a square peg into a round hole!! is it conceit that just because you can hit high c's you fell entitled to do Broadway??? These are two voice types folks.
