I used to do things like this when I was a kid with my brother. We would use our bicycles and hunt for a small slow-moving brook and of course we brought our small shovels along with a pipe so I can build the dam on the brook then lodge the pipe in the upper body of the dam. then gather the rocks to against the soil/sand which contains the small brook so it can flood and flow inside the pipes. Fun times. Need to do it again for the nostalgic purposes.

FYI , dry sand is lighter to shovel than wet. Work from the top down or back to front. Harder work letting the water follow you. But then it's like those people who ride a $2000 2lb bike for exercise. The exercise is the point, why do it easy.😁

That's great guys! As a kid we always played this way on the beacht where I lived. You learn a lot of it, keeps you healthy (if you use a better scoop, even healthier) and it is greater fun then looking at your phone. 👍

A lot of beaches are fed sand yearly because coastal erosion removes a little every day. So stuff like this wastes sand, money and fuel. Looks fun, but there's no reason for it.

you simply don't know if there was a reason for it.

I should do this

First divert the stream. Than build the dam! But make if of wet sand and compact it! Bit harder to work with but it is at least 6 times stronger than just beach sand wich is not compacted.

Does anyone know what they are doing this for.

Someone just did this to a local trout river where it was near the lake, and diverted so 20 miles of stream reversed flow and destroyed a major section of the river. Dont do this unless its the mouth of the river
