I'm glad the story was written this way, this was probably one of the few good things about the new show. It finally gave viewers from the original show closure concerning Pam. If you think about it, one of the things Pam always truly wanted was to start a family with Bobby, I never thought for a minute she would just abandoned Christopher and not be apart of his upbringing, there was a reason, and this story gave a good (yet heartbreaking) reason.

Tito Teixeira what are u talking about? Do u know how many times Cynthia Cidre begged Victoria Principal to come back. I read she almost gave in. She was pressured beyond belief. She again said no but was torn about it. It would've been great to see her in a cameo with Christopher even more so than Bobby.

That's why I bought all 14 seasons of the original because in order to understand the reboot, you gotta go back to the beginning. It all made sense after that. I was a small child when the show started but my mother watched it so I had to learn about it and it's a good story between the Ewings and the Barnes

I would have done it different : Christopher finds his mom in Abu Dhabi believing she abandoned him. Then Pam says she did go back to Dallas but saw Bobby , Ann and Christopher happy together . This scene made her believing that they forgot all about her. Pam goes back to Abu Dhabi in tears. Christopher brings his mom back to Dallas to talk with Bobby and Ann. Ann is jealous and worried but let thema 3 talk. Pam says that she's sorry she ran away but could not confront Bobby and her son with her injuries. Pam is glad Ann takes so good Care of her son. Pam and Ann hug it out. Pam and Bobby agree to stay good friends . Pam goes back to Abu Dhabi. She owns a burn victims hospital over there and she 's the director. She sees her brother a couple times a year. She made him promise to keep it silent. She was tired of the hatred in Dallas. Now everthing is public her son can go visit Pam in Abu Dhabi together with Cliff.

All that was missing was Morgan Brittany! It wasn't a bad show. The story telling was fresh, modern and just as sexy as the original.

They changed history a little here. Originally Pam (as portrayed by the stand-in,) wanted to stay away. She never said on air that she wanted to return to Dallas to be with Bobby & their son. The writers took that liberty of filling in the gaps and making it seem as if she had a change of heart and wanted to return. Still, I appreciate how the writers tied it all into the oil business and brought our attention right back to shares and shady corporate moves within the family. I don't think Cliff ever really considered Christopher as a true Barnes though.

Cliff would not be able to cover this up. Plus he and Bobby were pals in 1989. all they ever had to do was have Margaret michaels step into the role and explain the subtle differences as a result of the accident. But the producers were going to stick it to VP in the original and the reboot because of her leaving.

@@jonstefanik9400 True but that movie had some inconsistencies compared to the earlier seasons of Dallas. I wish they would have stuck with the history ironed out by David Jacobs. In episode 5, Miss Ellie told Digger about the hard times of 1930 and meeting Jock around that time. The 1986 movies took its cues from the 1984-85 season where Jock was sole owner of Ewing Oil by 1932 having bought it with Jason and Digger just two years earlier. This is obviously NOT true. Jock and Digger had a partnership for years extending to at least 1939 with Jock throwing Digger out and stealing all the oil wells.....and, yes, Digger kind of asked for this. Then in the unborn scenes of the final episode, we see Jock's grave saying he was born in 1915. Amazing that at age 15, he bought an oil company. But I like what you're saying. Pam was NOT born in 1950 for sure.

Not sure why this was necessary on TNT Dallas. Everyone knew Victoria had laid to rest the character of Pam. I found it interesting Victoria released a media statement prior to this season screening she would not return. Blame the original Dallas writers for their poor handling of the character. Blame the TNT Dallas writers for their sloppy handling of Pam's death. Sure most viewers had closure but for Cliff to hide Pam's' death from Bobby and Christopher for all those years was appalling. And where is Pam buried? The most logical question from Christopher would have been, "Where has my mother been laid to rest?" Strange.

  • @dbm9173

+Brad Osbourne The reason that the TNT version had to address the issue was because of the number of people who wanted the character of Pam Ewing to be alive - she didn't actually die on camera ... so there were a number of good story lines that could have been written. As for Victoria Principal - she was never asked to make so much as a cameo on the TNT version, that coming from Cynthia Cidre herself ... an admission that I think really ticked the fans off to the extent that it contributed to the show being cancelled after the 3rd season. It's a shame, because Jesse Metcalfe as Christopher was awesome and I think he & Victoria Principal would have been great together onscreen!

  • @ItThats

+Brad Osbourne Why? One of this new show biggest mistake was starting without avoiding this big issue and gap in Dallas storyline. They could've avoided this scene and this so-not-real storyline by asking VP is she wanted to be a part of the show and if she said 'no' they would've made the Ewings known about her death a long time ago. It would made this much more believable.

Had Victoria wanted to reprise the role of Pam, they could have explained that her illness resulted in her being comatose for most of the past 20 some years -- and that she had only recently reawakened -- but still wasn't able to speak. Seeing Bobby again would have been the jolt needed to start on on the road to recovery. But being that Principal didn't return, the ending to her story was satisfactory -- if not satisfying. I think her return could have make the show a bit more interesting-- as she always had good chemistry with the old cast. But, I don't think the writing on new Dallas was near as strong as the original version.

Tito it's unsure if Cidre even asked her to return. Cidre is on record as saying no but I think they were keeping their options open or else Pam would've been dead from the start of the 2012 . The show basically dangled Principal like a carrot and used her name for publicity until Victoria put a stop to it with her statement of not wanting to return. It was one huge missed opportunity. Pam could've maybe come back after a 25 year coma with her cancer cured but the experimental treatment was very risky and untested and caused her to slip into a coma. That's the only logical way I think to bring her back. But alas not meant to be. I consider the TNT version one huge missed opportunity. To equal or even come near the original is virtually impossible .

To think this storyline could've been avoided by killing Pam off in 1987. But every actor always came back to Dallas so they held out hope that Victoria would. I think maybe running away after severe burns like Pam did and not wanting anyone to see you might be understandable and I could almost stomach that but Bobby not looking for the love of his life and mother of his child was unforgivable. Dallas was never the same after this. Only worthwhile things that Cidre did on the TNT version was getting to see Hagman as JR one last time and laying Pam to rest.

If VP said yes, they could've made Pamela return to Dallas right after the end of classic Dallas since the movies became a paralell storyline. If VP said no, they could've start the new show with an established Pamela dead and that be known for many many years. Wow, you're a lil' harsh there Dennis Walker. The TNT re-boot was meant to be a showcase of the next generation set against the delicious backdrop of the veteran characters. It wasn't intended to be a re-telling of the old storylines but a series featuring fresh, sexy, exciting new stories peppered with some of the familiar faces we had come to love back in the 80s. For me it was TNT that got it wrong, but rather CBS when they brought in Donna Reed to play Miss Ellie, who, if memory serves me correctly, was later kidnapped and when returned to South Fork, she was discovered in the trunk of a car and it was revealed to be Barbara Bel Gedes and NOT Donna Reed.

hotgritz4sho Cynthia Cidre the producer wasn’t interested in the Ewings. She turned the show into a Mexican telenovel that bore little resemblance to CBS Dallas. An unlikeable Bobby, a Southfork that was completely different than the original, Cliff and his personality transplant, peripheral characters no one cared about or storylines for that matter. It’s no coincidence that ratings sank like a stone after the premiere. Btw the Miss Ellie kidnapped in a trunk happened before the BBG left the second time in 1984. Reed was brought in for the 84 through 85 season. Then BBG returned for 85 through 1990.

Strip Teee the flashback would've been great if it was included in the episode. Who cares if it was Margaret Michaels and not Victoria . It was one scene but Margaret Michaels will always be credited as playing Pam Ewing # 2. She did a good job because she made her voice raspy due to pam's injuries.

I agree. Margaret did a good job. Her demeanor was calm and steady like Victoria's Pam too. Although she seemed a little shorter than Victoria. I never agreed that she would abandon her lil' boy and the love of her life.

it's was so wrong to kill Pam. This should have never happened. That's why the show failed to sustain another season after larry's death. If Pam was brought back, they could have survived another season or two. She should have had a son. Bobby's son.

I don’t think the show would’ve survived even with a Pam recast (everyone would’ve griped about how she wasn’t Victoria anyway). I have no problem with them killing Pam. One of the things the TNT version got right. To give the fans closure. The writing was weak and the ratings were mediocre. Metcalfe was leaving anyway. Too bad they ended with a cliffhanger.

@@Dennisanyone- I say that I disagree personally. I think the New Dallas scene of Pam was about as best as they could do to bring proper closure. It was still lame. Nothing short of Pam being back would work. The Old Dallas should have recasted Pam. It was too much of an important story line. They would have lost a few viewers. Bringing back Bobby and Pam would have given Dallas more years and better viewing. It would have made more sense to me than recasting Jock and Miss Ellie.

@@gracetruth4509 I don’t think having a recast Pam (I always thought Jaclyn Smith would’ve made a great Pam after Victoria) would’ve helped og Dallas that much. Maybe at best a small ratings bump, but we still would’ve had Cally, Michelle, James (ugh I cringe). They made a blatant attempt to bring in younger viewers which backfired. The last few years were just cash grabs for Larry and Patrick because the quality of the show was little to none. The og really deteriorated with the dream explanation, an insult to all viewers. Cidre the producer of the TNT version just didn’t understand what made Dallas tick. They weren’t even going to deal with Pam until viewers started writing in. A talented writing team can get around anything. I preferred the lousy writing team of the TNT version killing her off rather than botching her return with a not up to par recast and bad storyline, the likely outcome if they would’ve brought her back alive.

In the early years, this was the actually story that never got told.....Miss Ellie was pregnant when she married Jock and she was carrying Digger's child, which is JR. Anyways, I wish they had come with a way to make Christoper a real Ewing. New Dallas story lines were real lazy. You don't go around looking for Pam and find her dead. You must find her alive because that would bring more texture to the story.
