    JR was the evil side of Jock while Bobby was the good side of Jock. Gary was a Southworth. Ray? Well Ray was at least tough like Jock but not confident because he was a half of a Ewing.

    Teri Kay::::: half Ewing or not. He was a great character. I liked, Ray he had allot of jock characteristics. John Ross is not J R son. It’s Ray krebbs son it was revealed in the biography of Dallas . Sue Ellen got pregnant, with Rays son. Brought up by J R and Sue Ellen. They never thought it was any body else’s.

    I'm just now rewatching the Season 1 mini-series before getting into the rest of the show. Jock was an awesome character. Smart, tough, ruthless, blunt, honest, driven yet moral, quietly generous and absolutely loyal to and protective of his family. Dude was a multi-millionaire oil man and head of the biggest independent oil company in Texas and he loved ranching, drinking, fighting, hunting and finding oil. A man's man and the only man JR completely feared and respected.

  • @SaxonC
    @SaxonC7 жыл бұрын

    JR was the Center of Dallas but Jock was its backbone. Even after Jock died, he played a pivotal role until the end. Jock was a man's man and the only man that JR looked up to and the only person that JR would never betray. Even when JR mortgaged Southfork, it was to make Jock and Ewing Oil proud. Sue Ellen once said "Everything JR did, he did for his daddy. Even persecuting me, it was to show Jock that he didn't lose his grandson". They don't write characters like Jock Ewing anymore. Society is too wussified.

    Jock was a "Man's Man". And this is coming from a woman. I would love a man like him: strong, virile, and determined to keep his family first in his life. He really made this show and Dallas was never the same when he died. Ellie was the epitome of a good woman; she also kept her family first and taught her sons the value of family, hard work and respect. Although JR failed in many of those aspects. This was still an amazing show. One of the best.

    The Barnes and Donna were (implied) Democrats, as was Sam and Dave Culver. Sam was Jock's first lawyer, and later on Jock appeared at a Dave Culver rally in Season 4. Earlier on, Jock and JR also supported candidates for public office against Cliff (likely a Republican). So I think - like most business folks - Jock tended to shift from Democrat to Republican as his interests required.

I don't have a wife and kids but I have my mom, my stepdad, my sister, and my nieces. Everything I do, I do for them to show that I am becoming the man that my family wants and more. Family is everything. When you lose your family, whatever the reason may be, you don't have much. However, you still got their memories.

    Dave B. : I respectively disagree. I liked Jock's character a lot, and when he died it was an awful lose, but he wasn't by far the best character IMO. JR was the best character, and the one character the show couldn't do without. Bobby was a great character too, as was Miss Ellie. Also, in their own ways, Sue Ellen and Cliff were both very deep and interesting characters. Both were highly flawed, and still likeable in some ways. Jock was a huge part of the show no doubt, but the show still thrived without him. It was never the same, but they still found a way to thrive. One of the most important parts of the Jock character though, was the fact that JR's character drew all of his motivation from Jock. JR''s constant need to run Ewing Oil like his father did, and to please his father...etc, etc. Jock was the only person who could strike true fear, respect and love into JR. Sure, JR loved, respected and feared his mother Ellie too, but it wasn't the same as his constant idolization and need to please his father. Even after Jock was gone, JR's need to please him and make proud never ceased.

    The great thing about Dallas was that the Ewings always stuck together and never betrayed or schemed against Jock or Miss Ellie. Unlike the other night time soaps like Falcon Crest Dynasty where the kids always plotted against their parents. Dallas was at its best when the Ewing family were together during dinner breakfast and out by the pool.. The chemistry between all the actors made the show great

    In my opinion the fictional character, Jock Ewing, was three-dimensional -- a complex mixture of good and evil. You don't have to either like or dislike Jock to have respect and admiration for how skillfully Jim Davis played that character. Not even Charlton Heston or John Wayne could have performed that role as well as he did.

    Looked like they almost did with that Wes Parmale non sense. I read multiple places they were fully intent on going forward with that story line but audience outrage made them pull back and make him NOT Jock. The actor playing Parmale had no chemsitry with bobby JR and Ray and wasnt physically old enough to be JRs father (nor was Bel Geddes for that matter)

    The fans protested their plans to replace Jim Davis so they were forced to drop the storyline. I think that it speaks volumes about Jim Davis and his portrayal of Jock and demonstrates his importance to the show. Ellie later remarried and Howard Keel was great but Jock was the man and was sorely missed. He do it all be hard as nails and then very kind and loving. He and Barbara added punch to the show. Their absence was felt.

    Jock was the old school oil man, as long as you stayed loyal and honest with him you’d be in his good graces. But if you tried to double deal him or try to mess with the Ewing family he’d go to war! Plus squaring up with him is like standing up against a lion or a grizzly!

    Can totally relate to Jock. A man has to be tough and stern many times to get the job done. Tough,mean, rough and tumble. Do what you gotta do regardless of how you feel. Boys have to be taught that a real man provides and protects the family at any cost.

    When Jim Davis passed away suddenly, it seems a lot of the spark went out of the series. It was never quite the same again. Howard Keel is a good enough actor. But bringing him into the show as Ellie's second husband, just never really made it as a Dallas character. Instead, we had silly storylines such as a man claiming to be Jock Ewing, and a contrived plot involving JR and Bobby contest for control of Ewing Oil.

    I was too young for Jim, but he made the show that it was. At one point, he was the star of the show (along with Barbara Bel Geddes, even Larry Hagman, who saved it) until both Barbara & Larry took over and their characters were vital to "Dallas," after he (Davis) had passed away. A combination of the character of both evil/good, Jock was always the kind of man who loved his Ewing boys, even more so, his business. But had left too early.

    If I'm not mistaken, Jim Davis holds the Guinness record for an actor who's appeared in the most westerns. There will never be another character like Jock Ewing or a show like Dallas. When Jim Davis died,they should have ended the character Jock Ewing. Instead they dragged it out with Steve Forrester claiming he was the long lost Jock Ewing who was lost in the jungle with Punk Anderson & then got plastic surgery to change his appearance. WTF!!! I understand not wanting to lose a strong,main character like Jock,but c'mon. They should have said he died in the plane crash with Punk & given him a final sendoff episode. How many agree with me ?
