JR was also like ten years older, so he had already done his fighting. But also he fought more with his mind, words, and money. But when he did fight with his fists, it was usually a good reason behind it (usually his woman or his child).

The very first time the top of the staircase was shown from what I can recall was around 1979. Sue Ellen was talking about becoming the lady of the house, Miss Ellie heard it, walked out of a room on the second floor and the camera was looking up to where you saw the ceiling and Miss Ellie said "No I'm still the lady of the house". It was during the time Sue Ellen had her fake Texan accent.

Right. The ladies had some good fight scenes too. Donna and Sue Ellen both could land some decent punches. Donna knocked Bonnie’s lights clean out. And Sue Ellen clocked Cliff with a nice right cross and socked JR so good he fell right on his behind at the OBB.

JR does not like to physically fight. He mentioned that once. He didn’t even like it when he HAD to do it in the military. So when he is actually seen throwing hands at someone (usually Cliff), they really do deserve all the heat. JR’s preferred method of fighting is with his words, mind, and money. He will get you where it hurts that way first because it will hurt longer. But if he does hit you, it is for a good reason (usually his wife or son is the reason…not always). He and Cliff have so many years of bad blood that it is easy for him to be provoked into a physical altercation. It really is “on site” with them. And even then, he will give Cliff a chance to get some act right before he goes there, but as usual, Cliff doesn’t know how to shut his mouth and that is when JR will sock him in the mouth.

Most of that season was silly aside from the part with Sue Ellen’s spiral with alcoholism and recovery (very well done) and the storyline with Ray and Donna and their baby.

The fight scenes are kinda weak. They project there punches, punches are slow etc etc. But JR EWING is the greatest of all times
