    @@PungiFungi because they made Bobby out of character. His second marriage to Pam also felt forced, he turns his back on his son with Jenna. He then forgets Pam and Jenna, the marriage to April was so artificial. It seems that writers could not give him a stable relationship with a woman. Yeah Jenna and Ray was also so forced. He could have moved to another state, in other ranch, but Ray in Switzerland is like an eskimo making a home in the sahara.

  • @philldholes

    Agreed they're all somewhat dissimilar. JR is looking for power, monopoly stature and to cripple his enemies and to win big in every transaction. Bobby wants to benefit from business but not necessarily to hurt those he buys from or sells to. JR wants to underpay and oversell. Bobby just wants the best deal possible and isn't looking to hurt others. Ray is a worker not much of a business man. He is more of a days work for a days' pay. Gary is a classic example of a rich man's son who isn't much of a worker at all but kind of an irresponsible life came too easy for him person.

Gary wasnt weak persay he was more on the Southworth side and J.R took advantage of that. I do believe that J.R loved his brothers, all of them he was jealous of Bobby because he was the youngest and the favorite and got what he wanted mostly. J.R wanted Ewing Oil, Southfork everything Jock had because he was the oldest. Of all the jealously, the fights with Bobby and Ray and running Gary out of Southfork twice and all the underhanded things he done he loved his family. I wish the J.R had would've written a letter to Gary like he did to Bobby telling how much he loved him and apologized for the things he done to him.

    @@Jay-nq7fn JR was the dark side of Jock. Bobby was the good side. JR did not want Ewing Oil because he was the oldest, but because he was the one who showed interest in it. Bobby's interest in the company was always half hearted. He felt that Bobby did not have what it took to survive in the oil business. Probably if JR wasn't around Bobby would have never survived, as JR had what it took to do away with the evil bastards that surrounded them. At the end Bobby admits that most of those things JR did, were more necessary that he wanted to admit. Ray, was nowhere near Bobby and JR, and he admits that he could never make his father proud as JR did. Gary was weak and he blamed his misfortunes on JR.

    Agreed. It was ridiculous. It's as believable as Jock wanting to live in Luxemborg. Oh, and again, why on earth would Ray sell the land that Jock and Ellie gave him? The Ray we had known on Dallas for a decade would never have done that. Then he marries Jenna and coddles to her every whim, including being allowed to accept his nephew as his own son, and moves his "son", wife and bitchy step-daughter to Switzerland. Why couldn't he buy another ranch somewhere in Texas (a huge state) or out west? Surprised Ray wasn't wearing lederhosen and sipping hot chocolate while constantly declaring his neutrality in all matters.

    He should have divorced Jenna. She only wanted to be a Ewing and have money. Give her $10 million and send her and her brat daughter away. Then again, producers were gutting the cast in the wake of a ratings downturn, so they had to clear out Ray, Jenna and Charlie. I guess they got Charlene Tilton cheap, because they brought her back even though she had nothing to do (like before) and nobody was interested in the Lucy character.

  • @jameskennedy4377

    @jameskennedy4377

    From a storyline standpoint, I always thought Jenna should have somehow been killed off shortly after Bobby broke off the engagment, which would have left Bobby to raise Charlie. Even though she wasn't Bobby's biological daughter, he would have volunteered (plus, he had told the court he was her father after Jenna was convicted of killing Naldo). This would have set up some interesting conflicts between Charlie, Pam, Bobby, and even Christopher.

    Jason Gibson Bringing in those new characters you mentioned was what sealed that show's fate. I really loved watching Dallas until Pamela Ewing was killed off the show. Afterwards it all went downhill from there. But as for the lady who played April on the show, she went on to score big as Alex Cahill on Walker Texas Ranger which I also enjoyed watching until they brought in a new pair of young Rangers to join the force and, once again, it all went downhill from there.

    Amen! James in particular was a death sentence for the show. An irritating and moronic character portrayed by one of TV's worst actors. Then add in the bitchy sister of a secondary character, and have her marry JR's "secret" eldest son. All of this were signs of a desperate show that was dying. It would have been better to have eliminated (or better yet, never have brought them on in the first place) James, Cally and Michelle, and forked out the money to get one of the original characters back - Donna, Katherine, etc.

    Dallas was at the height of its success when Jock had to get written off the show due to the actor's passing, and as long as the numbers for ratings were strong plus the fact Dallas was the #1 show on the air at the time. No way it was gonna fold up tint due to the death of one of it's core characters. By that time J.R. had become the face of the show anyway not far removed from 'Who Shot J.R.' propelling the role to iconic status.

    Ray's ending was another bizarre chapter of the later years; He marries his half brother's first love - Jenna, who's expecting Bobby's child, then he adopts his half brother's child and then, as a rancher, decides to move to Europe with his half brother's first love and start a new life raising his half brother's child. And then Bobby just accepts it.

    @@willisapril Wrong, Jenna did not do that, at first she said that because of the hurt she felt, soon afterwards she let Bobby in. Out of character Bobby suddenly did not want to see Lucas, because Christopher was not happy he had a baby brother. Instead of making Christopher realize that he could have a brother and be fine with it, Bobby does exactly the opposite. If Jock was around Bobby would have never acted that way. Had the new series brought back Lucas, I guess he would be pretty angry at his father and adopted brother. They cut him out without him ever doing anything wrong.
