I am an old F’ker and used to love to go to Bristol and Dover when they were asphalt tracks and how awesome the racing was at those tracks back then. Since both tracks were turned into concrete tracks I have gone and watched two races at Dover and 4 races at Bristol and have no desire to go to either track for a NASCAR tour series race ever again

Amen. THEY ABSOLUTELY DESTROYED THE RACING AT BRISTOL with that ridiculous progressive banking. It's just another race now. I do still enjoy Dover's banking and speeds, though.
I hated it when they went to progressive banking in Bristol. I know people object to that because, it gives better racing. But I’m from the old days when the 36 degrees was some of the best racing. Just me.

Yep. When they polled the fans to "fix" it after they screwed it up, I voted for 36°! I'm glad they ground down the top because the racing has been better but it isn't the same... Never saw it before concrete so I guess I'll have to take Jr's opinion on that. I have driven on concrete roads with bad expansion joints and it's pretty miserable.

Where does it provide better racing? Not being able to pass running side by side is not racing. It's better to run single file and bump to pass rather then side by side and can't pass.
Went to Bristol in 1976 . NEVER saw a boring race until the concrete. Went to four concrete races then gave up my season tickets I had for years and haven’t been back.
I definitely agree with Dale on the concrete issue, The racing was incredible at Bristol, and if you wanted to go, you have better bought your ticket a year in advance or you weren't going

If I were in charge at Bristol, I'd immediately have the track banking put back at 36 degrees, and then get rid of the concrete. I'd bring the asphalt back.

@@deantait8326I miss those days so much. NASCAR's best days are behind them
Jr. is a great historian of the sport and does all of the necessary research to comment on everything...
Jr. nails it on asphalt at Bristol. Anybody who watched the asphalt night race at Bristol when Sr. and Tim Richmond went at it that night - that was one of the best races ever. That might have been on old bias ply tires also - not 100% sure on that though. We'll never see racing again.
Now Andy can join Sheldon Creed …under the bus👀
@David-ho4xu

Agree… Creed was tossed under the bus. Horrible situation
I like drivers that can handle track conditions given to them.
The first time I went to Bristol it was an pavement track and had concrete bleachers. It's my home track and I so wanted to see Dale and the 3 team win and Dale broke the cam on the second lap. I was so bummed
I think the tire compound has more to do with the asphalt getting chewed up than tire pressure or speed. But they could go down to 22-25 degree banking and the asphalt would hold up better too. The ground underneath asphalt needs proper draining too. If the ground stays wet , especially in winter, it will expand and push the asphalt up.
I remember when Jeff Gordon had that incident at Martinsville & a piece concrete complete came up, when everyone knew how old the surface was. It was a matter of time it did at that time

Wow JR has gone so corporate now .He always had to be to an extent but he has so embraced it .
Get iracing to do a asphalt version of each of the concrete tracks for us.
Saw Andy at church Sunday, he seemed pretty content with his decision
Bristol on asphalt was the best racing in the cup series and Dover was second. Now it's just another race and not really exciting anymore.
Maybe RCR should try to get Rodney for that position.
How much do you think bias ply tires made the racing better than the radial tires on the asphalt vs concrete
Kyle said what Andy was already thinking and it showed in Andy's body language that night.
All sports have gotten serious about recovery, Peter McNabb was one of my favorite Bruins players and he talks about the keg they always had in the locker room after games. Now a days the players start recovery before they've even taken their skates off.
Hockey pucks!!. That's funny right there. 😂😂😂
I watch the clock behind Jr. More than I watch Jr.
i was at Bristol in 2004 when dale jr. won the night race
The asphalt surface changes throughout the Race. As well as more temperature sensitive.
RCR needs to get a technical alliance with Hendrick Motorsports.
When DBC goes remote they need headsets so they can be understood with their audio..
The short videos like the previous years for my life style are better. I can focus easier on many small videos vs the 1-2 hrs podcasts. I love the longer shows but I find myself not watching your content this year as much due to length. Just feed back hope it helps

What would putting asphalt sealant on the concrete do? Would it be slick or sticky?

I know what Dale Jr. Is talking about. The old Bristol was a great race. Yees, it would rear up the asphalt. The duribility has not changed.
N I raced Dover w Reds in Black top😎🏁118
Does Dale ever make personal appearance in daytona aeea?
Rusty was good on concrete!
With the heat here in El Paso the asphalt would make grooves and be very dangerous. Change lanes and you could see wrecks happen in front of you. Concrete saves lives and money. Different then racing.
1 - there is no reason they can’t put 2” of 0.5 super pave on them with a stronger PG 2 - the primary problem with asphalt is 2 issues, color and abrasive consistency. if they would’ve colored the concrete dark and did micro milling in the bottom and acid washed the middle and top, it’d actually be better than asphalt. the great part of concrete is you can change the surface and not significantly impact the structural integrity of the section.
How do I put a question on ask Jr
I had just broken every bone in my face
The guy at Dover teaching me eating chicken wings 😎
Yeah know what you mean driving across memphis / Arkansas bridge is same way esp I 40
I was at Nashville kinda stupid to have a day race in Tennessee during the summer people from Florida where complaining about that heat I'm from here and I had a hard time with the day race to hot
Can you please put "ASK JR" in the title?
Back in the Dover asphalt days, me and my group were 30 rows up and we’re getting sprayed with gravel and pellets. It was horrible from a fan’s perspective. Getting a concrete surface at that track solved that disgraceful feeling…
Is that the same lego set as byron had? His was like 4 feet.. Dales feels alot smaller
Of course the main reason was not just the asphalt was tearing up, it was crappy modern concrete. New asphalt doesn't last near as long as the original old school asphalt of yesteryear. The real question is why?

Bruton Smith took a great track at bristol and destroyed it, I've been to 74 races at Bristol and haven't been for 5 years and I'm not alone ,just look at the attendance

That just goes to show you how good Kevin Harvick was, how many wins would he have if he were not at RCR all those years. And I still maintain, Harvick is one of the few legends to follow a legend. And he had to do it on the fly.
I hope Dale Jr. presses Logano on how the hell they got 110 laps and 5 OT sessions out of 1 tank of fuel… It has to feel suspicious to someone other than just me…

Just thinking out loud here: They had a magical place called Bristol. Then they messed it up by changing it to concrete. They have paved over the concrete with dirt. Why not throw a layer of asphalt over top the concrete and see what magic happens? Who's with me?

That's because they don't put sand under the concrete . Everyone in construction knows that.

Asphalt is not made the same way it was back in the 50, 60 &70's Our gov't took out a lot of ingredients that made good asphalt. So those tracks will never go back to asphalt.

While I agree with Jr. that concrete tracks suck, the truth is that the decision to go with concrete over asphalt is a strictly economical decision that is based on the astronomically high price of petroleum products (thanks to slow Joe) and has absolutely nothing to do with the quality of the racing that it produces.

It’s never Kyle Busch driving the car too hard or not hard enough . Maybe he is just losing it slowly . He’s out there looking for feelers for open seats . Really . He grumbled his way out of Gibbs . Screwed Toyota over but he always has the excuse other than him 😂😂
Not a racecar fan n you r one of the biggest jokes
Don't give to shakes about Nascar any more , ever since the COT came into the picture , Nascar slowly put a strangle hold on racing . Teams can't do anything anymore , Nascar controls it all ! Stage racing has KILLED the sport , viewer ship is down , stands are half empty , it's dying , let it GO !!
