@G hrvyck doubtful. His heart was always in that type of racing. Robby Gordon was always an independent "my way" kind of guy. Probably didn't like the direction racing was going in, so he created his own. That's not the same as other series not wanting him

@G hrvyck you seem extremely angry...NASCAR didn't ban him, the sport overpriced itself for Robbys liking, its not a coincidence he left around 2012ish. Robby was an owner/driver. Unless nascar outright banned him, they didnt push him out lol. Relax, the main part of the conversation ended 4 months ago. Eat some pizza, take a nap, and play a sudoku or word search or something. Regarding camera angles...; during the NASCAR break this spring, we watched "classic" races while waiting for NASCAR to return. The first thing that struck me with the old footage was how fast the actual speed of the cars was. I don;t know if the tv cameras were closer, or farther, from the track as they followed the cars, but in the old footage, the sense of speed is REAL. In the current footage, the camera angles are so focused on getting the cars into perfect "focus" that the cars don't actually appear to be moving that fast. Having attended a live race at Charlotte in '07, seeing how FAST the cars lap the track, for my own eyes, was unreal...! Not until I watched some of the older footage this spring did I again get a sense of that speed...!

His cup career kinda dwindled toward the end... Running with sub par teams and then I think he owned his own team. I never really like his attitude back then ... kinda why he reminds me of Stewart. Certainly can not deny his talent. I even liked to see him do well towards the end of his career. Back in the Dodge days i was a fan boy for Dodge. So that changed things ... He said one thing that was at the root of it all but was only glossed over. WE WERE TAKING THEIR VIEWS. At the time, Supercars were transitioning from a support category that races production based v8 utes against each other, to a new series based on turbo diesel 4x4 production utes, ushered in by Supercars and CAMS. The V8 utes were fun to watch, sounded great, lots of beating and banging. The new utes lost the V8 sound, and the cars were alot slower. Now enter SST, V8s are back, they jump through the air, close racing. Robby had stolen every V8 ute fan, and CAMS were desperate to see him gone. First the wheel debacle (which was followed by a number of wheel losses in the main supercars series that went unpunished). Then the donuts, which while an awesome stunt that fans certainly loved, gave the nanny state all the ammo they needed to hit the nail in the coffin and bury the series. Glad to see them back. Although I wish they'd do more dirt racing in Australia, I saw them at Sydney speedway and at the Sydney street circuit and the dirt track was amazing!

I actually liked Robby Gordon being in NASCAR in the Cup series when he drove a Monte Carlo for Felix Sabades ( I may have misspelled his last name. I'm sorry ). He is a racers racer. At that time Robby also drove an Indy car during the Indy 500, then drove in the Coke 600 the same day. Tony Stewart, another racers racer did the same thing. Those were the days in the 90's and early 2000's when you would see guys do that type of stuff and do well.

@Elite Soulfly First off, they've all done something stupid on the track. People need to stop acting like every driver is perfect. They've all spun out on purpose to benefit them too. Secondly, getting upset about a debris caution that did not impact the championship that happened 14 years ago is ridiculous. Third, Dude lives and breathes racing. He's really nice to his fans too. I remember going to Menards as a kid when he was signing autographs. He took forever because he had a conversation with practically everyone that showed up. Guy could have had a hell of a NASCAR career if he wanted to, but he cared more about the freedom to do things his way. And not be stuck in some kind of hostage contract. I respect that

Another thing in Australia is at that time CAMS (Confederation of Australian Motorsport, now called Motorsport Australia) were promoting their own truck type series called SuperUtes which were Diesel powered vehicles that were slow and boring and SST was putting the SuperUtes to absolute shame. CAMS don't like anyone showing them up and play the politics very harshly.

Remember when Kyle Busch got pulled over at 130 MPH in a Lexus LFA outside Charlotte? He got nothing and the rumor was they said “130” but it was a lot more.

The coverage in nascar is really bare to say the least. Let's show 5 minutes of racing for 10 minutes of commercials

OK, 230 000 people at one event may be quite a lot of people, but it is really put into perspective when you remember that that was in a country with a population of just more than 25 million... The Aussies are bonkers about sports!

With all the aero testing I don't get why they can get the air to come off the car differently to stop the dirty air situation.

Nascar cost 4 or 5 times more than others country's. Fans that made Nascar can't even go to watch any.

I think you can see it bothered Jr. when Robbie said that the SST race in Australia pulled more fans than the Daytona 500. And I can see why it possibly bothered him but at the same time, NASCAR has just gotten dull over the years and SST is this new hot series.
