DakhaBrakha - is world-music quartet from Kyiv, Ukraine. Reflecting fundamental elements of sound and soul, Ukrainian «ethnic chaos» band DakhaBrakha, create a world of unexpected new music.
The name DakhaBrakha is original, outstanding and authentic at the same time. It means «give/take» in the old Ukrainian language.
DakhaBrakha was created in 2004 at the Kyiv Center of Contemporary Art «DAKH» by the avant-garde theatre director - Vladyslav Troitskyi. Theatre work has left its mark on the band performances - their shows have never been staged without the scenic effects.
Having experimented with Ukrainian folk music, the band has added rhythms of the surrounding world into their music, thus creating bright, unique and unforgettable image of DakhaBrakha. It will help to open up the potential of Ukrainian melodies and to bring it to the hearts and consciousness of the younger generation in Ukraine and the rest of the world as well.
Accompanied by traditional instrumentation from different countries, the quartet’s astonishingly powerful and uncompromising vocal range creates a trans-national sound rooted in Ukrainian culture.

One thing that is truly exceptional about DakhaBrakha is that even though they are nearing two decades together, they still make magic, they're still fresh and unique. I've heard most of the greatest groups of the 100 years recording has been happening. I have recordings from King Oliver (Louis Armstrong's early mentor and employer) to Aurora (whom I love), but DakhaBrakha is simply the best musical ensemble I've ever heard. Even though I've heard Most of their songs hundreds of times, they still move me, they make me feel beauty and happiness. I still get misty eyed every time I hear "Baby", ˆit's that good.

I live near a washing machine factory. I think that were put inside one and came out with such fantastic music 🎵 You only have to listen once a full concert to appreciate this wonderful band. Long live free Ukraine

Still am smiling during listening - so much empowerment during your performance at the Elbphilharmonie last week - just wondered why people didn't stand up and dance - okay, this is Hamburg, and for many people the first time at the Elphi - you should know, as I talked to the people afterwards: they really loved and enjoyed every single second, and many were crying - and don't forget about the lights turning on during "Baby". Go ahead, please.

I love this group, but it infuriates me that Ukrainians mix politics with art. He says stop Russian aggression. It's your own fault. They did not comply with the Minsk agreements and generally committed genocide against Russians in Ukraine. When the Ukrainian army was killing its own citizens in the Donbass for 8 years, they were forbidden to say - stop Ukrainian aggression. Hypocrisy and double standards.
