Hi Jamie great video, but is it possible to do this conversion at the base of the spool as i wish to retain the ratchet option, just by drilling an 8mm hole in another spot?

Hi there...Shout out from South Africa. I'm looking to remove my breaks in my penn fathom 15 (I know not your favourite reel..lol) I pendulum cast and my single break block engaged is tapping my distamce out at 134m. Magnet setup will do me well. Please could you tell me whats the dimensions of the magnet ..I think 8mmx3mm?? Thanks in advance

The main reason I am not a fan of the Mk1 Fathom with a mono mag for casting is the limit in size of the magnet you can install due to how the Fathom is designed to only 6mm diamiter. This is the size that would be used for field casting or casters who are at expert level. Not the average fisherman who wants to be able to use his reel all year round and in all weathers!

I'm amazed at the science behind the magnet installation as the spool is aluminum hence magnet does not attract to it....Eddie currents...my mind is blown. Would be great to see you do a video explaining how it works as you have a great way of explaining things so the average Joe can understand. Maybe you have already in one your many video...if so please send link. Thanks once again !!

@@terencesimpson100 The aluminium spool creates its own magnetic field when spinning, the faster it spins, the stronger the magnetic field. Add Newtons third law of motion and Lens's Law, it really is rocket science!! 😀

can this be done with the Daiwa Sealine-X SL-X40HA i don't like the x 20/30 6:1 reels to hard to reel in the weight from 150 yard cast

Yes, but would use a bigger magnet. Probably a 10mm x 8mm or 12mm x 6mm for shear stopping power on the bigger reels.

Bruce Truong A magnetic brake stops the spool from over running when the lead slows as it stalls when it reaches the top of the cast.

Hi Peter. Yes it is possible to put the mag in the side plate at a different location but it does become a lot more complicated. The side plate is curved where as the clicker button location is flat. The mag carrier would have to be at least 5mm longer and extra angled mounting washers would be needed on either side of the plate. Internal work on the plate would also be needed.
