It's satisfying to take an old reel, or any machine for that matter, clean it up, service it and get it in good working condition again. Thanks for making these videos, it's almost as satisfying to see someone else do it as it is to do it yourself.

If I understand the GS numbering system this is the same as a GS-60 which I have. Both are great reels for a multitude of uses. I didn’t think that click ratchet would come off at least not easily. One of these days you’re going to need that slide hammer! LOL I own nine of the GS Daiwa reels now with duplicates of the GS-9 and GS-90 saltwater models. In general you are correct about the bearings in the silver vs GS reels. You got a great deal at that yard sale. My GS- 60 cost a lot more on eBay. By the way my GS-60 was a GS-60SC which means it had that self centering AR ratchet. I changed that out with the regular AR ratchet. I don’t care for a self centering AR ratchet with only two stops on the anti-reverse. The GS-60 is similar to the Silver 4000C as both have two ball bearings. The GS-90 has three bearings like a Silver 7000C and the GS-9 is like a Silver 9000C but has one more ball bearings. The smaller GS reels often have more bearings (2) than the smaller Silver Series reels (1). These GS reels are such good reels that you can’t go wrong with a good used one. Thanks for sharing this reel! - Chris pS. ‘Slam” “Hammer” or “Bang” I still move my bails by hand.

Thanks Chris. This reel is so versatile it can by used across the board - Pier, boat, surf and perform well in all of those environments. I am going to take my grandsons out on a charter boat in a week or two and they can put it to the test! Best wishes - Dennis

Hi Dennis, Happy 4th to and your family ! The Daiwa gold and silver series are solid reels as you know ! My Silver Series 4000C is due for a service too !! How time flies. Liked your "Brains before Brute Force" quote. Extends to other challenges in life beyond reel servicing, me thinks !?! All the Best, Cons

Thank you for the video. I was curious - when and why do you oil a bearing and when do you grease it? I kind of go back and forth, no real reason or logic applied. Thanks again.
