Dairy: The difference between A1 and A2 milk

Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль

To drink cow's milk or to not drink cow's milk?
One of the first things we need to do is to determine whether or not the dairy we are consuming is from A1 or A2 beta-casein cows.
Beta-Casein makes up about 30% of the protein in cow’s milk but that 30% can make a huge difference in how cow's milk affects a person. Historically, most cows contained only A2-beta casein in the milk.
However, in grocery stores today, 99% of cow dairy will be from cows that produce A1-beta casein milk.
The reason most cow dairy is of the A1 variety now is because farmers found that the A1 genetic mutation found in cow breeds like Holstein, British Shorthorn, Ayrshire, Friesian produced a lot more milk at a significantly lower cost. Once again money won out, in spite of the potential health downside of A1 milk.
Conversely, milk that is high in A2 beta-casein can be found in breeds like Guernsey, Jersey, Charolais and Limousin. However, just because you have a jersey cow though doesn’t mean it will be 100% A2.
A1 milk also down regulates glutathione expression which is the exact opposite of health accumulation. In my recent video on NAC (N-acetyl cysteine) I talked about its ability to raise glutathione levels and the benefits of supporting our master antioxidant glutathione.
In contrast to A1 cow dairy, 100% A2 cow dairy milk actually demonstrated an increase in glutathione concentrations by two fold.
The A2 protein structure is much more comparable to human breast milk, as well as the milk from goats, sheep, and buffalo. That in itself tells us it is likely to be less problematic given that goat, sheep, and buffalo milk are all considered low-allergy foods.

Thank you for this explanation. I have removed cow dairy mostly and try only raw, organic milk and cheese. This elimination has helped my muscles work better. Also I have stopped drinking any alcohol on regular basis. The experience with yogurt for example turns my muscles into a cement like state- not the muscle itself but it makes moving very difficult, ie; balance is way off, restricted flexibility, pain pain pain. I think this is a gut related issue possibly or maybe just as you explained the blocking of glutathione production. I was truly surprised when the raw cow milk I bought had this same affect on me- the label had local jersey cows pictured on it. I thought I had Parkinson’s disease or Rheumatoid Arthritis. This food stuff is tough to navigate right now so thank you again for sharing your knowledge. Any thoughts about my experience?

One thing is even if I tried a2 goat milk it tasted so bad and I got big bloating. I right now do not have access to a2 cow milk and I will try it next month. The only thing that works for me is a1 kefir and a1 lactose free sour milk so something in fermented a1 changes allergens. But I crave for warm chocolate milk which I am not taking for last few yrs due to bloating...will try a2 cow milk next month!!

How do I know if my milk is A1 or A2? For example, Costco organic 2% milk. Being produced in mass probably means it’s A1 but how do I know/check?

Costco does actually carry an A2 milk. It says A2 on big letters on the front.

If it’s A2/A2, it will definitely say it. They’ll be proud to list it on the label. If it doesn’t specify, then it is A1/A1.

I don't understand homogenized process as well... I know how it works.. but why...and the answer should come from somebody outside milk profiteers. My understanding..what looks better sells better...and it's not necessary promoting healthy consumption.

I'm really beginning to feel sorry these animals. It's hard enough to get them on the grass, now we have to start despising types of cows for the milk produce. It's like they're black, and we're all becoming racist all over again. This is breaking my heart. Cows milk is milk.

Unfortunately, we created the problem by only using high output dairy cows.
