DAILY TRAINING SESSION with our newborn Draft Horse Filly!!

Today we are sharing our daily training session that we do with our newborn draft horse filly, Bree!! Bree has been making a lot of training progress over the first few weeks of her life. Today she is getting a new halter and working on leading and being tied.
Watch our videos to learn about draft horses- horse logging, horse farming, and horse training! Jim uses Belgian, Percheron, and Suffolk horses to do work on the farm and in the woods. He teaches about harnesses, horse-drawn logging and farming equipment, horse feeding and maintenance, and voice commands for horses. New videos uploaded every week. Keep watching to see how Jim trains his new Suffolk Punch colts as he has trained his full-grown teams!

Oh my goodness! What a good little filly she is! Follows you without halter, and then lets you put the halter on like she's a 10 years old dressage horse. The 'fur' on her hooves is called Fairy Fingers in the UK. Princess Bree is incredibly cute--and beefy already, wow she is beautiful! At the end, after Jim takes off her halter, Bree stands by him and gives him kisses on his hand. Wow! She loves Jim already. And Lady looks SO beautiful and healthy with her gorgeous sleek coat with dapples! G-d bless your family, humans and animals 🥰😍💗🙏

Love that new halter! Fit so much better than the last one, and as it's adjustable you won't have to replace it too soon. Also, less important, but I love that dark green color with her golden coat color. She's just beautiful, much like her mother.

The Process of Jim (and Brenda) training a horse (colt), at such a young age is really amazing and such a valuable video for folks learning. Nice process. The little one is amazing as the little personality starts to show. Amazing how Lady eating yet aware, momma growl as the little one gets too far away outside. Hope you can get some good rest Sunday as summer shifts into full gear. Thanks, what a little cutie :-)

Such a gorgeous foal! The white diamond and streak on her face and her lovely colour! Hefty, a typical draft foal, reminds me of a baby moose! Excellent training, Jim. I think Wee Bree will adjust to all of it as long as her mum, Lady is nearby. I find the newborn foals' soft hoofs ( eponychium) just fascinating. Its purpose is to avoid injuring the mare's insides before birth. Amazing, nature!

Brenda and Jim, those "furry" feet are called foal slippers. It protects the mother during birth so the foal's hooves don't rupture anything. They fall off over time as the hooves get hard. As far as I know, that is the only purpose of it. And when she came out, they weren't furry but very soft and kind of spongy.

I love how you expose Bree to everything she will need to face in the future and allow her to have less trepidation in the future. I raised house rabbits and strange as it sounds , I would stick my index finger in their mouth so they learn very early not to bite, and are used to it. If they require a pill in the future you can push it back without getting bit. No fight or struggles with syringes either.

What a little treasure is Bree! The furry stuff in the hoofs is to prevent them from breaking the membrane, the amniotic sac. For the nibbling, that is curiosity at the beginning. Can stop it real easy with an already loaded and ready flick of the index finger, lightly. Batting at them for nipping can become quite a game and never ends the habit. Another cure for nipping is "muzzle loving", stroke and handle all around the muzzle area soon's they start. The little flick works best, somewhere near the nose. I had missed this, went searching, thought I hadn't seen you since the horse pull. Busy, busy. I was wondering if you are going to breed Lady again, for a matched pair? Greetings from Australia.
