Something to think about for those who feel that harsh products are needed to teat dip after milking: Who runs around dipping the does teats every time the kids nurse dozens of times a day? When they are young, I've seen one of my does let them nurse for about a minute or less, every 10 minutes. Should we stay outside all day and go dip her every time? (rhetorical question) A small homestead or small farm goat is not in the same kind of environment or being pushed to max production, (I hope) like a dense commercial CAFO style operation where they rely on conventional methods to prop up the health of stressed animals.

Would you guys make an updated video exactly this? I love it and I know your new found knowledge will help many... to include me lol

We put a milking machine together for our goats. We found as we were working full time we just did not have time to hand milk. Bliss.

You want to know a tip on really slowing down their eating grain while on the stand...put it on top of some peanut hay.

We found if we mix some alfalfa in with he feed while milking it REALLY slows them down and keeps them busy. Also have optional ties downs for her feet if you want from trouble goats. It helps train them too.

This was another great video! And Daniel's music at the end is really good. He is a talented artist!

I'm a new goat owner and from watching your video I was going to ask a really dumb question. When you were talking about the feed mix I was thinking the alfalfa would take the place of hay, then Miah was putting out hay. Your videos are so much fun. Love your boys! We raise baby "chips" too!!!!!!

Thank you for this video with such great content. My husband and I are wanting 2 dairy goats for milk, with plans to have one fresh at a time. We have much to learn beforehand. We have to build a small barn with an adjacent milking parlor. I would love to grow beneficial herbs for goats, as well as our chickens. I am planning on offering an herbal chicken bundle at the farmers market next year. Blessings!

Seems like it would be easiest to start with babies so you wind up with very tame/easy milkers. I'm just learning as much as possible before I get goats

I used hot water with a dab of soap and bleach as well for cleaning their udders and a dry towel to dry them. It worked great for me.

We have a great Pyrenees dog!😁

Are your goats polled or disbudded?

I noticed you have your goats in with the chickens. Is it true or not true that chicken droppings can kill Goats?

For people, like me, watching this a year or more later: in my opinion, that is for fresh eggs. I wouldn't put store bought eggs on the counter.

You have to buy at least 2 at a time, or they'll freak out (and be lonely) and usually they try to run away - because their herd animals.

Can you tell me why people milking goats do not put a loose rope around one of their back legs like they do when we milk cows. This keeps them quite still & stops the cow from knocking over the pale. Love your videos. Cheers Denise Brisbane Aussie- denise@brady.solutions for your answer please.

Some of us do Denise. I have a doe that has a very strong and even stubborn personality, although I love her dearly. She was a stomper and would lift her foot to the bowl I'd be holding, which if it was a bucket on the stand it would be spilled. She stands still now, but It can be a negative to have to use the ropes to hobble long term. Because as a 2nd freshener, she now seems to miss it if I leave it off to get her used to not having it there. It is more ideal not to have to use them, but they can be a great training tool. Some does can be skittish, or shy and if like my stand, it is up against a wall, they will stand against that wall and feet together making it hard to milk. So again drawing the outer leg toward the edge of the stand helps, and I find she relaxes nicely. When goat owners have the chance we try to let the young doe kids up on the milk stand to have a treat, get hooves trimmed, pet and brush them, get them used to having the udder area touched well before they will be having their first kids or being milked. My big doe above was already getting ready to have her babies before the milk stand was in place, so there was not time for advance training, to teach them to stand calmly and with legs apart a bit for easier milking.
