Daikin Mini Split Installation
Components of a properly installed 12,000 btu Daiken Mini Split Unit, the condenser, power-head, line-set and remote control are explained. Also an explanation of how the components work and the different sized options that are available on the market in both 110 volt and 220 volts. We always recommend using a licensed HVAC contractor for a proper and professional installation of a Mini Split Unit.
Thanks for watching!

I install these all the time and even though I'm confident in every connection I do, I would never bury a flare connection behind a wall. And by the way the real reason they should be insulated separately and all the way throughout is because the lines are actually part of the evap coil in a mini split system and can effect the pressure(temp) of the refrigerant and its ability to transfer the heat.

Did this guy mess up when he put the liquid and high side line together ? I didn't like the condensation line in wall either, would you have done that different too ? Seems like vibration and time would invite leaks (refridgerant) @ flare and cause leak inside wall. As I posted My buddy had problem because of the ignorance or laziness of a/c man not following instructions(if included), but I know these systems are efficient his works great now, I have done much a/c work in automobiles and have installed whole systems, just not wanting to make rookie mistakes ...thanks...
I like videos like this. First of all I see that it's a 4-1/2 minute video of a mini-split intallation, so right away I'm not expecting too much detail. Then I start watching it and and I start seeing one thing after another that I'm either positive your not supposed to do, pretty sure your not supposed to do, or at a minimum , I would never do. Then I hit the comments section and pretty much every thing I was thinking others were thinking also. I love how in the posters comments they "recommend using a licensed HVAC contractor for a proper and professional installation ". Just because a professional installed it and no building inspectors called out any problems with the install doesn't mean that it was done properly. It's good to have bad example's of how to video's available. Learning from other's mistakes sure beats making them yourself, but you better read a bunch of comments before you decide that what you just watched was a "How To" or a "How Not To" video. Half the professionals out there create half of the work that the other half of the professional's rely on to stay in business. A signifigant part of my income over the years has come from fixing things done by companies with lots of employee's, lot's of newer trucks with fancy graphics, and giant full page ad's. I guess you just have to wake up every day and decide what's more important to you.... performing as a profesional, or performing as an actor portrying a professional.
Finally got it up and running. The only delays we had was because we realized we needed some extra parts (I’ll list that below) kzread.infoUgkxihMYiJNXcHdbH-7ihymsLz61l7jVyb5O . So we have a loft where our current hvac just couldn’t seem to keep cool during the summer. We have been using a window unit since we bought this house over 6 years ago (all the houses in this neighborhood were built in the 80’s and majority of the houses built like ours use a window unit). I hate window units because they are just so noisy and the one we had really only cools one side of the loft. I had contemplated upgrading our current HVAC, but with all the rising prices these days, it would take years before saving up enough to do that. With the advice of my father-in-law (used to run an HVAC business), he recommended we get an inverter instead. We thought we bought everything we needed, but there were just a few other parts we didn’t anticipate needing (which is what caused most of our delay). My friend and father-in-law did all the work to get it installed and running and now we have nice cool air circulating nicely throughout the entire loft. It is very quiet and even the outside unit is much quieter than our main HVAC unit. Saved ourselves thousands getting this.
Hey Dave, the line voltage a Communication wire should not be ran together and the line set connections should be ran on the left side of the unit and the connections really need to be behind the unit itself and not in the wall. Also as pointed out by everyone else the lines need to be insulated separately

You know nothing old man! The lines have to feed off of each other like two fetus's in the womb!

can the copper pipes go upnto ceiling while letting the drainage pipe go down?
I don’t understand the pump down if there’s a leak how will you know exactly how much charge is needed. I would recover and put virgin refrigerant in. Only a couple pounds.
Were is your float switch for drain
Good info
What kind of wire do you use for the 4 conductor? I know my manual says 14 gauge stranded but nothing further for the type of wire to be used
I hope made sure you had 10' of liquid line, which may require coiling the line, I had a friend who had problem because the two units did not have enough distance between the two, it cost him 1500$ or so because the guy who installed it did have previous experience and finally got tired of call backs and my friend got tired of him never fixing it, so he called someone who had done several mini-split systems and paid cash for something that the first guy should have corrected.
Just an observation, the line set pipes should be insulated separately.

Putting together it decreases the heat transfer of the room to the indoor coil. Making the AC unit less efficient. Isn't it ?

If it is indeed a liquid line as he says then yes they should. The Daikin units I have purchased usually come with individually wrapped line sets from the manufacturer. I have seen mini split systems that put the txv in the condenser box and they recommend you wrap the lines together. I can remember being thrown off like "why is this liquid line 40°". I wish I could remember exactly which brand. Mitsubishi maybe? Also just why the F they do that I will never know.
If I not connect earthing wire then will Ac work or not.

Are these pre-charged
Go and read the installation manual
Great tutorial thank you!!!!
The reason both pipes need to be insulated is because it meters from the outdoor unit to the evaporator
110V mini splits are only available in 9k and 12k BTU. The only manufacturers that make 110V mini splits are LG and Fujitsu.

Hey - has anyone ever had the issue where all the units stopped cooling and all they do is blow air? How can this be fixed?
Someone needs to read the installation manual ! I usually stay quiet but this is wrong in many ways!!

Funny thing is I work for a different a/c company in the same area as his. And we’ve had to go back on a brand new install they did and redo almost everything.
Here's a video showing the lines each with their own insulation while wrapped together: kzread.info/dash/bejne/fmthxM-hYaq7ZdY.html
Sorry, looks like very messy connections at 2:22.
People do not do this! David the lines must be insulated in there own insulation. Manual states DO NOT INSULATE TOGETHER! Also that unit is not serviceable without tearing out wall again. Really bad job.

Funny considering he posted a video of the same unit a few months later that was leaking. Allegedly from the flare IN THE WALL. Yep, had to rip the wall again.
Wrong. Refrigerant lines need to be separately insulated. I’m not trolling - please read the install manual.

Exactly...I keep it simple and make it easy. I just get the Mini-split linesets from the supply house that come pre-insulated separately.
Hope you used stranded wire..

Alek, I've heard this issue raised before. Why is stranded necessary? For strength?
I totally don't understand your line set insulation theory but sounds way wrong buddy.
Hack job
Flare fittings in the wall!! Flare fittings never fail on mini splits. LoL. Wow! Dont hire this joker
Stop calling it liquid line cause it's not. It's called the Trans phase line.
Yes do not insulate two pipes together , they need to be individually insulated , liquid line and suction line , alternate heat and cool options putting two pipes together oh lordy wtf david waste of space buddy you need to edit yo little masser piece hu ?
Bekar daikin
Your wiring is wrong , people will be mislead, you put all wires in one conduit
Not purchase daikin
