Others commented that it seemed like you were scolding. I happen to appreciate you being crystal clear. There is a lot of information out there and you earned my trust. I will do what you suggested. Yes, ma’am!
I've always needed to pre-start my dahlias. I have a snail problem and if the dahlias aren't at least 6 inches tall when I put them in the ground, the snails get to them. I have a grow rack so they are under lights until mid-April, when they go out to my cold frame (mid zone 5 and 5000 feet elevation)
Very helpful information Heather.
Thank you. I have been seeing posts on waking them up and I have never done that. I thought maybe I should be to get an earlier start. I questioned the practice which brought me to you, I have been so successful with just keeping them waiting until the temperatures settle to plant them right in the ground.
Thank you! I’ve been watching so many other channels confuse taking cuttings for waking up the dahlias. I’ve started about 50 in pots this year simply because I’m making a new gardens and want to see green as soon as I plant it out 😜Otherwise, for all our other dahlias in our dahlia field we simply direct plant in the ground after last frost date.
Good information I planted my mid March because when I bought them they were already sprouting I live in Texas zone nine they are growing so fast they are about 3 to 4 inches height already and I am so excited to see how they’re going to 👀

Mine look dreadful look like they sorouted then died out and dry up like wizened brown things. So upset just spent hundreds fo dollars and all the Potter plants have god damn weevil eggs in there.
Thank you so much for this. I had completely covered mine and then second guessed myself when I saw everyone else leaving them exposed, so yesterday, I revealed the eye and have been thinking about it. I'll cover it back up and let it do its thing.
I put mine in our warm storage building. I left them in the bags they came in. They woke up quickly. All of my SI tubers have been planted!
Thanks for the info. I have learned so much form your tips. I have gardened for many years, but never grown dahlias until this year. This is late Nov in England and it is very cold. I dug this years tubers up today.
This was super helpful!!! The only reason I am trying to wake up some of my tubers is because this is my second year growing so it was my first time saving tubers. I’m leaving my brand new Swan Island tubers in their bag until I plant next week here in Southern Indiana. 🙂
Thanks
Thanks for the less than 5 minutes video.
Thank you so much for this information. My question is ‘will they have a head start if I wake them up? Otherwise, what would be the point?
Great, I have some tubers from my first Dahlia last yea and its just been sitting out ="D Maybe it's not all lost!!
Does it matter whether or not you keep them in a place that does or does not get light?
Much appreciated, it was confusing seeing so many different ways to wake up my dahlias. We had a big down pour yesterday and I forgot to cover them to stay dry. Will they be ok? They haven’t sprouted yet.
So I over wintered all my Swan Island dahlias and had a great turn out. Mine have started to wake up, but we are still approx 4-5 wks before last frost. Can I leave them in their medium and and let them wake up as they are? Should I add a bit of moisture?
Do cuttings flower the same year?
How much moisture do we give it? I hear the tubers are prone to root rot if exposed to too much moisture. So how much do we give it?
I feel like I should go sit in the corner now. 😄

I think she is just trying to make a point. Try not to be too sensitive, she just wants you to be successful.

That’s how I try and get my point across also, she wants you to remember the important parts of the video, also she said she’s seen so many videos showing the wrong way.

I need to be scolded and yelled at about my gardening directions or I end up rogue & getting "creative" till I fail 😅
