Thank you for sharing such great dahlia information. I haven't grown any yet but they're big on the wife's list for retirement - sometime this year so we'll be growing dahlias by next year. I hope you can show this year's cuttings as they develop through the year.

Thank you, this is very helpful! I'm a bit confused about why there can't be fertilizer in the soil, but then they're given liquid fertilizer anyway. Is that because the dosing is highly specific?

If you start for cutting in Jan, are the tubers in cool storage/dormancy from the time you lift them from outside until January? Also, when planting to “wake up” covered in shallow soil, do we cover the whole leafy shoot once moving outdoors to get the tuber to the 3-4 inch depth?

My Dhalias in Connecticut arent doing as well as I thought. Maybe lack of sun here by the coast? Lack of heat, too much rain? Only June 27th so we'll see

I am considering starting a small dahlia operation on our small farm (selling extra tubers, rooted cuttings as plants possibly too, and cut flowers of them also). Can you tell me what is required? We are in Oregon so I assume a nursery license and inspections from the state. Are there royalties to consider if I plan to sell tubers or rooted cuttings in spring? If I do this, I want to be sure I am legal and legit with requirements and respectful of the breeders that have worked so hard to develop the beautiful varieties.:)

How can we get dahlias shipped earlier so we can try out doing cuttings?
