Many ornamental flowers and cut flowers are TOXIC. ALWAYS do your own research and take responsibility for the plants that you introduce around your kids, pets, and everyone else. Use common sense when handling plant materials: wear gloves, always wash hands, avoid contact with face, etc. NEVER consume any plant which has not been positively identified with complete certainty to be safe and edible. Before planting anything, research to determine whether specific flowers are considered invasive where you live or if there are laws that apply to their planting in your area.

    I had no idea ! I Planted 100 tubers this year. Lost about 10-15 due to a horrible rain storm that dumped 8 inches of rain on my new babies I had just planted (should have went out in rain and pulled them out. Lesson learned) Now I can take some cuttings and maybe have 200 :))) nah just enough to heal my heart ! 💔 ♥️

    Thank you for this video. It was so clear and easy. I watched it back in May and thought, 'hmm... that's interesting' but I just discovered one of my fancy new dahlias (it's my first year growing them) got flipped over in the wind and snapped right off the tuber. Disaster! I've now divided it all up and hopefully at least a couple of the cuttings will survive. 🙏

    Gonna try this today!! My dahlia's did get quite leggy this year cause we had some pretty cold temperatures and I kept them inside for a week. Moving them back out and hoping they will be okay!

    Oh my God, I literally just accidentally broke my tallest dahlia stem yesterday morning about two leaf sets from the base. I snipped the top half off because it was a total break. 😔 I realize this is over 24hr later, but I didn’t know I could stick the top in soil until this video so I’m going to try it with the top portion of the snipped part 🤞🏼🤞🏼🤞🏼

    When rooting the cuttings where do you put the tray? Is it back under your unheated hoop house in the cold or on a heat mat.. also do u water it in the 3 weeks your waiting on roots? Thanks

    As long as they're growing well and are allowed to mature into the fall, they should produce tubers that are large enough to save. Good luck! 🌱🌱🌱

    Have you ever grown any dahlias from seeds? I bought some just to use as flower bed annuals but recently read that within two to three years that they develop tubers. How long do cuttings take to develop tubers? Thanks

  • @TONYAwiththeflowers

    Yes, and I think it depends on variety. I've even seen tubers after digginf up tiny seedlings. 🌱🌱🌱

    Hi! Here in NZ the dahlia season is finished and my plants have died off. Can you please let me know what I now should do with them? I would like to take them out of there pots so that I can use that space for other plants over winter. How do I store them and do I cut them short? Thank you!!

    Do the rooted cutting flower their first year in the garden? Or is it not until the tubers are taken out and then replanted the next year?

  • @TONYAwiththeflowers

    @TONYAwiththeflowers

    As long as they're started early enough, I find that the cuttings almost always bloom the first year. Thanks so much for watching! :)

    Once the cuttings start growing do you then plant them in the ground mid summer? Or do you wait until the next spring to plant them in the ground?

  • @TONYAwiththeflowers

    @TONYAwiththeflowers

    Once they take root, things start growing really quickly. As soon as they're big enough, I transplant into the garden. In the fall, each plant should have produced tubers that can be saved and grown again next summer. 🌱🌱🌱

    Why do some dahlia from the box store say annual, even though at the end of the season there is a tuber? Can these be saved? I tried once to leave in the ground and not successful although many of my regular tubers come back each year they didn't say annual.

    Yes, the tubers can definitely be saved. I have a video about digging and storing the tubers in the dahlia playlist on the channel. Thanks so much for watching! :) :)
