I think men's hearts are fragile and they know it. The loss of an animal is devasting for everybody, but dads have to be strong for the family and only put their guard down for their pets and losing them is truly traumatic and too much to bear.

A lot of people who don't want pets do so because they know the irresponsible people around them very well. It's my case. I told my wife that if she could keep a plant alive for 1 year, my son could get a dog. The plant did not survive and today I am the one who takes care of an adorable puppy.

Been a shitty week. Absolutely terrible day. As soon as I clicked on this video, I got big smile on my face. Thanks a whole lot, I needed that today.

‘Yes yes we will look after it, I promise’ they said. I said ‘I don’t want the responsibility.’ They said ‘no we will look after it I swear.’ I didn’t believe them and but I was overridden. They worked, went out and partied and travelled overseas with not a worry. No food was bought, vets bills paid, medication or grooming as they were out there doing what they wanted. They didn’t walk them, play with them or feed the on time and there was no training, no boundaries or routines established. I did it as I loved each animal as I with them ached when they were hurt, sat up with them when they were sick and then had to take them to the vet as they were so much in pain there was nothing for it but the rainbow bridge. I stayed until their last breath. Do not say you will look after an animal and then leave it up to someone else. I’m an old lady and I’m tired of picking up when people don’t step up. It’s infuriating and insulting so please don’t treat people this way and especially the animals that you think you want.

My Mom and Brother put me and my Father in this position all the time. I have to get up every two hours for potty training the new puppy, and my brother had the audacity to say "well sleep when the puppy sleeps". Kind of hard to fall back to sleep when you end up getting up two hours later. Now my Mother is asking when I plan on having children. I'm like seriously lady who adopted the puppy in the first place but barely takes care of it. I'm just done right now.😣

You'd never get a human acting that excited when you walk through the door.

Men work a lot for the family and I think coming home having to rest with an animal help them to relax ❤❤❤

Dads never want dogs because once upon a time, they had one and it died. My dad was FURIOUS when I got my dog. he said it would cause NOTHING but problems. jokes on him, my dog assimilated into my home and lifestyle like a dream. I still think about the time he came over and sat on the floor and just pet my pupper for a solid 30 mins. I said nothing, but he just looked at my dog with so much love. yes, one day my dog will die. one day he will cross the rainbow bridge and I may never get to see him ever again, but to know I gave this dog the best love and experiences in life....knowing that he brought he endless compaionship and love.... it makes the pain always worth it. The pain of loss proves you loved.

No one says animals don’t go on to eternity because no one knows. Since God doesn’t make junk and animals have a heartbeat I believe in Gods love for them. There’s a line in Scripture that goes something like this - And the Lion will lie down with the Lamb. Uhh not in this world. In my church we have a blessing of the animals. Okay, why? I believe what is loved is not lost. Humans are selfish with their ideas about Eternity and who God loves.

Weirdly, I was the dad who didn’t want a dog, except I was a teen girl. I wasn’t used to puppies and I knew it would be a big responsibility. I was annoyed with her at first but 9 years later I love this sweet baby. 😊

me and my 2 brothers were dog mad, dad took us out one day to visit the 'bad dogs' at the shelter and talk to his cousin who was in animal control about how difficult, time consuming and expensive it was to own a dog and showed us around all the surrendered dogs , anyway... long story short we had that rescue puppy for 15 years and worshiped her

Reminds me of when we rescued a German shepherd/lab puppy and we wanted to keep him. My dad was against it wholeheartedly and said he wanted nothing to do with him ,despite the fact that HE named the dog (Hanz) and a week later I walked into the living room to discover my dad on the floor grinning ear to ear while Hanz was licking his face.

I think that too. The dads know all a pet wants is to be loved and when they leave us, we are devastated. I also think that pets give us a chance to decompress from the stress of daily live. Whether its taking a walk around the block or the cuddles and belly rubs. Pets are know to lower blood pressure in older adults. That's why in California, seniors cannot be denied a pet companion. It's documented that seniors live healthier lives and have fewer hospitalizations and the duration of the stay is greatly reduced when they have a pet.

It is impossible not to love a dog. Or any pet really ❤

the unconditional love a dog gives is what has made me able to get through this life! the 2 furbabies I have now help take care of me, they know when I'm not feeling well and are always there. I'm never lonely because of them!!

...pets have much to offer...we all need someone to love, who will accept our love, unconditionally.

My dad is the same exact way with our current dog (videos of her are on my channel). He'll sometimes say things such as, "She's too expensive," "She's too little," or "When are we giving her back?" In all honesty, though, I think she has him wrapped around her paws, as he'll rock her like an infant, sit out with her on our deck, and greet her first when he comes home from work. In fact, he was the first person she ran toward when we first adopted her, and I think it was her way of saying, "CHALLENGE ACCEPTED."

Only a man who knows true loss and pain refuses to start again. But my how beautiful it is when they allow themselves to love again.

Men know what it's like to lose them and they take it hard and you wouldn't want to feel that again.

My aunt is the dad. I don't know why she was so closed off to animals most of her life, but in the past 10 or so years she's really come around. It all changed when I took in a lost dog; a little male pug who liked to sit on the arm of her reclining chair. She won't let animals on her lap because of the fur (hates it on her clothes and such) but the little dude was content just to be near. He had a rabies tag so I was able to find his family - turned out he was stolen originally and they were very happy to have him back. We were sad to see him go but will never forget Cookie the pug! Now we have our own pug and she loves him very much - but he's still not allowed in her lap. Maybe someday!

my mum was like that about cats. hated them.. then one day she told me as a firl of arund 6 her brothers and some other boys put a new born litter of kittens down the back of her frock and it frightened the life out of her as they felt as she thought mice would. My brother had cats. We were all around there one day and his cat was mooching around. This one was very very friendly and sashayed her backside around.. lol.. Mum called her Duchess as her little nose would be in the air, she was a beautiful pure white and small and she owned all she surveyed. This afternoon she said.. oh. can she come and sit on my lap please? if she'd like to.. ONLY that cat was ever allowed on her lap.. we couldn't believe our eyes. She had warmed to this cat's chatty sweet personality and that was that. lol.

Pets give us a chance to hold and love on something again when our teenagers don’t want anything to do with us anymore. Lol.

I grew up with my father saving birds to the point that I’m about birds. He denies! liking birds but he will always save and care for a bird.

My dad never wanted a cat he is a dog person he always said... I'd tried several times to bring a kitten home but I always had to bring them back 😭💔😭. When I got my first own appartment with 18 I had a little zoo at home and of course two cats. Every time when my parents came to visit me he was the first one laying on the floor playing with them 😜💝🐾💝

We knew my dad really loved dogs as was evident in photos and the stories his mother told us, but when a friend of his brought round a stray puppy and we children begged him him to let us keep him, my dad had the typical hard-nosed response. Said he wouldn't tolerate any mangy, flea bitten dirty mutt in his home...said mutt, whom my father insisted on naming himself (Andreas Miguel), lived 18 happy years and as he grew older and had trouble getting around, my father swore he would pull him in our Radio Flyer red wagon and cart him on his walks before he'd ever consider " putting him down ".

I grew up around dogs, and my Husband's family never had dogs. I convinced my husband that we should get two dogs (one if my choosing and the other his). Husband decided he wanted to go hardcore, so he adopted a rescue Chihuahua/rat terrier mix and I went Bichon/Havanese. I did all the training and most of the caretaking. I make sure my husband gets to do a lot of the "fun" parts of pet ownership, while I do all of the maintenance. But if needed my husband will sub out and help when needed. I wanted the dogs, so I do a majority of the work. A lot of dad's don't want dogs because they feel the rest of the family won't share the burden of caring for the animal properly. I get it, so if you want a dog, make sure you pull your weight to care for it and bare most of the responsibility for the animal.

To be fair, pets are a massive time commitment and change how you live your life. I wouldn’t have it any other way, as my dogs are my life. But the people who don’t want the pet are probably more responsible and more aware of the commitment level than a lot of people who just run out and get a birthday puppy.

I feel like this, in my opinion, tells you that your Dad is an extremly good Dad if they do this. If they begrudgingly accept responsibily for a pet they didn't want, and treat them like getting them was their idea. A new pet, especially if they are a puppy or kitten, is like having another child to take care of.

Hah, my late husband did not want a dog. I did. We compromised and we were getting a dog. He said it must be female and 30 pounds or smaller. We had to compromise again and we came home with a beautiful MALE boxer/American bulldog mix, about 68 pounds, named Bojangles 😅 really, his picture captured my heart. My husband was adamant this was MY dog and he wanted no part of this. I totally didn't come back in the next day from taking the trash out to my husband and dog cuddling on the couch watching TV. Was told to keep quiet and mind my business lmao. I miss my husband dearly (7 years now) but I still have my sweet dog my husband swore up and down he didn't want anything to do with and ended up loving to bits anyway.

Nope. My brother didn't melt. He still doesn't want to do anything with the cat they took from their friends and his daughter loves that cat. And when my classmate brought a puppy home her father bit him up and told her to leave it in the street So never advise to melt someone's heart just by bringing an animal home. Not all the fairytales have good ends.

pops is 74 and ma is 71, they said they never wanted any pets anymore because its a lot of maintenance. Our last house dog passed 24/25 yrs ago, one day a friend who works in the local shelter told me that there was a shih tzu and a jack russel terrier who was about to be sent to the KS since no one wanted to adopt them. So I took a chance and took both, 1st day both my folks were a bit hesitant and was saying a lotta stuff concerning the pet. Fast forward to now, they're inseparable. LOL, pops even goes out his way to buy pet food and treats most of the time asks me if the dogs already ate. I even joke about how I wish I was a Dog and he never even asked me if I already ate since I was a kid. lmao love them folks

I absolutely love it!!! My dad didn't want Anything to do with my puppy Shih-tzu. Mom and dad took care of her for 2 wks for me. Had to barricade her in the kitchen I came home and mom and dad sitting on the porch-the door wide open--the puppy had the run of the house!!! So funny!! Grandma and grandpa loved and spoiled this little granddog!!!

Coz they know, the pet won't get angry back them and such innocent creatures that will love you no matter what unconditionally.

I know from experience... The reason a lot of good, family men don't want a dog is usually because they've already been through the absolute heartbreak of loosing a dog at some point in their life... But give them a couple of days with a new pup and their heart melts! Good men put up barriers to protect themselves and their family from loss, but good men can never turn their backs on a beautiful animal, we all want the best for everyone at the end of the day! I'd rather suffer a very sad moment in my live if i knew deep down I spent a portion of my life giving a dog a warm home, plenty of food and enough love to make it all worthwhile!

I remember my sister got a yorkie and my dad kept saying he didn’t like small dogs and one day we found the dog sleeping on his stomach while he was watching tv. He tried to play it off like he kept removing her but we all knew he loved that dog.

I just lost one of my dogs. I miss him. I still have one more. Love him dearly. Pets are the best. Better than people

😂😂this is so me.. I hated the idea of having dogs till.i was 41years old. I went to a friend and the mother Yorkie gave birth to 6 pups. I bought one after 8 weeks from him and now I have 2

I remember when my father brought us dirty slim little kitten, I was so upset by bringing another cat. Because I already had experience owning cats was traumatized cleaning their poo. but later then I'm the first who convince him to eat, give milk and be comfortable in the house.. because I felt bad for his condition. I'm the one always there for our pets and I'm the one they most close to and always pick as favorite human.

Dad's know the responsibility it. involves they say no but become the most involved looking after the Animal

For the most part we love dogs, we love to have them in our lives. Sadly they do not live very long and saying good bye crushes you every time single time you have to do it and it never gets any easier. Although it is a short time for us it is there entire life time to them; so even when we have to say good bye and it does suck every time, to me it always seems worth it.

Any parent that says they will grab their child by the throat needs to have the police talk to them.
