@@TheRhuen Knowing what we know we know now I think it may have been something that Lucifer said that came off worse than it was meant to. Probably something like "Charlie you are never going to be able to pull this off." What he probably meant was that Heaven would reject the plan, but to her it may have seemed like he was doubting her.

As soon as he said "she hasn't called me in years" I realized he's not a bad dad, he's just struggling.

Lilith could see Sinners as her children (or at the very least have that kind of compassion for them since she herself is a sinner) or at the very least as a tool worth using against the Heaven

I don't think anyone expected Lucifer to be like this. I expected him to be like the typical a-hole dads Vivienne makes, but no, He's a loveable goober who just wants to reconnect with Charlie. When he tried to disuade her from her dreams, it was to protect her. He might not be good at this, but you can tell he's trying, and that he genuinely loves and cares about her. I love this guy, and Jeremy Jordan was perfect casting for him.

One of the things I liked about their rendition of the mythos is that Lucifer's punishment was being sent down into hell for all eternity, where he could /only/ see the BAD consequences of free will, and never the GOOD consequences of it. It's like his own personal hell was directly tied to him wanting to give people a choice and then being gaslit by heaven to think they only ever could make bad ones.

To make Lucifer interesting they either needed to make him super sweet but flawed (fallen angel) or they had to quadruple down on the horror, make him someone Alastor was scared of. Glad they went with the former.

Based on the intro on episode 1 I'd say Lilith is the one that likes to project terror and danger and became a full on demon while Lucifer is the guy that gave up on his dreams but his optimistic side is still inside him being the fallen angel.

Lilith will probably fill the role of the dark queen of Hell holding Alastor's chain...and of course going down the wiki rabbit hole, won't spoil, look for her at your own discression as its kind of esoteric as Vivziepop only mentioned them once, has two doodles, and a graffiti in the background depiction in the pilot that is easy to not realize the significance of; but there is another power in Hell who might show up at some point who is very terrifying that...Roo.

Another big detail to spot is during the first song, how...sheerly uncomfortable Charlie is in a lot of the shots. She's *put off* by how hard he's trying to force his point, because the entire thing he's doing is making about his power and might, where Alastor is being more personable.

I also wanna point out he 'relatively' cautious he is around Lucifer. I mean, they butt heads like they're equals, but then Husk says word one to Alastor and he terrifies him into submission. So I feel like we should appreciate the hidden power of lucifer to be able to piss off the Radio demon and get away with it.

It's not even just a devil went down to Georgia reference at this point. So many places have made that reference that it's entered common knowledge that the devil has a golden fiddle/violin type instrument and is known to play it extremely well. The whole musical battle against the devil is a major trope in media now. Lol.

21:18 That's such an important detail a lot of people ignore/don't notice. Yes, Alastor is a powerful Overlord, but at the end of the day that's all he is: an Overlord. The Demon Royalty like Ars Goetia(i.e. like Stolas), The Sins, Charlie, Lilith, and Lucifer are all above him in both power and hierarchy. If he were to flex his power then Lucifer would respond, and it would end with Alastor getting so humbled. Just because Charlie and her dad aren't flexing their powers like he does doesn't mean they are weaker than Alastor. But because some people think it's a popularity contest they assume Alastor suddenly is the strongest. But like you pointed out, he only flexes his power to other Overlords and those below because they are the only ones he can intimidate/defeat in combat.

I am so glad they made Lucifer such a caring dad. Sure he's kind of a doofus who isn't exactly good at this, but he is legit trying and does truly love Charlie. Also Hearing Alastor use profanity is GOLD. That’s how you know he’s really upset because nobody really gets to him.

This man was on screen for less then five minutes and already loving this guy. Honestly between this and the show Lucifer I'm all for this kind of rendition. Also just seeing his size shows that Lilith gave Charlie her height, the man is truly a short king.

I really hope we get to see lucifer again, not just because hes a great character but also goddamn that man can sing, Jeremy Jordan is so talented

Lucifer’s depression is relatable. He wants to be part of his daughter’s life but is afraid she didn’t want that so he never made the first move. Edit: Guys, I’m not talking about why he first became depressed, I’m talking about how his own low self-esteem caused him to close himself off from the people he loved because he felt like they wouldn’t want him in their lives, thus creating a self-fulfilling prophecy that left him in even deeper depression. That’s terrifyingly relatable and hits close to home.

@@hittkid6312 it's important to remember that the intro sequence is told from Charlies perspective who is not an objective narrator. Charlie was born in hell but we see that she learns to dream big from her dad so it seems like he has not always been as depressed. Lucifer also says that he has tried all of this before but couldn't convince heaven. This could either be in reference to giving humans free will or that he had once made an effort to reform sinners but was shot down by heaven leading to him now trying to convince Charlie that Sinners are just irredeemable so that she doesn't have to go through the same hurt and dissappointment as he did.

I just realized the scariest thing about Alastor's threat to Husker is that they weren't around when Mimzy said he's done that. So he wasn't just saying something he knew Husker would believe because Mimzy mentioned it. He was saying he'd do it because it actually is something he'd do. It's a lot more threatening than the typical "I'll tear your head off & mount it on my wall." stuff that's never actually believable.

Good catch on the power difference between Alistor and Lucifer. Alistor is always playing power games, but he has to switch it up for Lucifer. Alistor also switched it up for Zestial and Carmila, so it's likely they are either beyond his power level or he doesn't know their full power and knows he doesn't know. Charlie is the other character he won't threaten, and the show drops a lot of hints that she may have a lot of power that she never uses. The weird thing with Charlie is that it's actually good to see her restrain herself. Maybe she ~could~ just rip Valentino (or whoever apart), but that wouldn't actually be fixing anything. That she lets herself fail instead of using force is the reason why people trust her and want to change for her. But given that Alistor will bully anyone who isn't more powerful than him gives a pretty strong hint that he at least thinks Charlie is powerful.

I've been thinking the same thing. These last few episodes have revealed something very telling about Alastor. He does not like being dismissed, and he does not like being in a room with people as powerful as he is. When Zestial appeared before him, Alastor was significantly more mild-mannered and less flippant than he would be with anybody else, and it was pretty clear that he had something to hide. And when Carmilla display no interest in where he had been for the past 7 years, you can tell from his expression that he was miffed that she wasn't paying attention to him. Alastor seems like such a big deal because he does not hesitate to be flashy with his power over characters that are far weaker than him. But, I think it's becoming more clear that he is merely an _above-average_ fish in a big pond.

And in that very same episode, I think the reason that Alastor was so quick to jump into action was not necessarily to fix Mimzy's problem, which he has apparently done many times in the past, but mostly to flex on a bunch of demons who came armed with what, a battering ram and a few guns? To be perfectly honest, I think there is an interesting dichotomy between Alastor and Zestial. One of them likes to make it no secret just how powerful he is, while the other simply lets his presence and reputation speak for itself.

If you remember the story from the first episode, it was part of Lucifer's punishment to only ever get to see the worst of humanity. It makes sense that he would view the sinners that way if that's all he's seen for thousands of years. It would be hard to break that thinking.

Really hits home that he can relate to the situation Angel's stuck in.

I love the "Devil Went Down to Georgia" reference with him playing a golden fiddle. The accordion was unexpected though. 😂

My theory for the ducks is that he was fixated on the moment Charlie first laid eyes on one of his creations, the part where she sneaked in while he was working, and so he held on to that memory of her smile despite being estranged for a long time. There's also that line he sings, "I've missed that smile."

As to Alastor's strength: He and the other Overlords are very powerful compared to other sinners/dead humans who inhabit the Pride Ring, but they can't match the _real_ demons who live in the depths. He'd probably be a threat to the I.M.P. team or Striker, but Stolas, Asmodeus, etc. are way beyond him. As is Charlie herself, if she ever chose to actually use her power and learn to fight.

i was not ready for Lucifer to channel Blitz when answering the phone. damn near killed me laughing.

Alicia you missed the meaning behind what Husker said: "Tough talk for someone who's also on a leash" Husker meant that someone owns Alastor's soul. He's on someone's leash just like Husker is on Alastor's leash, and it's almost guaranteed to be Lilith.

At first, I was disappointed with how Alastor acted in this episode, but then I realized why he was like this; Alastor HATES not being the top dog. He hates not being treated like the mysterious badass he tries to portray. And he knows there is absolutely nothing he can do to Lucifer aside from bragging about helping Charlie. And all that pent-up anger came out when Husk reminded him that he was still bound to someone else -Lilith-. And Husk or Nifty are literally the only people Alastor can lash out at without repercussions.

I just noticed when Charlie was having her freak out and slipped into demon form, the hotel was shaking. Are we ever going to see her cut lose and demolish someone? Preferably Valentino.

Alastor's on-sight pettiness with Lucifer was so high, he schmoozed up to Charlie even more than usual just to get her father mad. You gotta hand it to Al, he has 0 FEAR

My personal theory after seeing episode 5 (there might have a lot of issues with it idk I’m no lore expert) is that Alastor made a deal with Lilith and is therefore serving her. That’s why his defense of the hotel seemed particularly earnest. The «I’m here for entertainment » might not be a lie but it’s not the whole truth. This would explain why he immediately tried to piss off Lucifer as much as possible. Alastor is always trying to have the psychological or physical high ground on every body but we’ve NEVER seen him this worked up against someone before. I also think the reason why he killed the loan sharks himself instead of letting Vaggie take care of it was because he really needed to let loose because I think Husker’s comment got to him even more than what he’s shown us. Alastor always tries to look unbothered, smiling and in control, like he’s above it all, and I think the reminder that he is under someone’s orders almost drove him insane. Letting anger see through his mask is a clear sign of vulnerability, so his «weakness » was Lucifer and the fact he is «on a leash ».

I absolutely saw Alicia crying to More than Anything. That song was perfect for Jeremy Jordan. That's the effect his singing has. He's so good.

There's a theory that Alastor sold his soul to Lilith when he was alive, which is also a theory that he was part of some occult which is why he was so powerful when he appeared in hell. Also both Alastor and Lilith were gone for 7 years and I wouldn't be surprised if Lilith ordered Alastor to look after Charlie while she's busy with whatever she's right now.

I used to not really like Lucifer but after hearing who his voice actor was and after watching this episode, I love him. He’s a short king bean and I love him. I can relate to him height wise. I kept cracking up during this episode mainly cause of a lot of the scenes and cause of how short he is. His voice actor is Jermey Jordan by the way and he also plays Varian in Tangled the Series. It’s how I was introduced to him and I absolutely adore his singing voice. It’s so beautiful. I teared up a little at More than Anything. It was so beautiful.

Alastors scary side ia pure nightmare fuel. I love his design

Lucifer totally won that pissing contest when he got Alastor to drop that "Fuck You" cuz Alastor has never sworn until then. Well besides "pissy" in episode 2 but that's nothing compared to...everyone else.

At this point I am almost certain Alastors leash is in Liliths hand. My guess is that he actually got fucked up fighting someone strong and Lilith offered to save him in exchange for his services. Alastor knows how deals work so nothing short of death would have made him make a deal. Also the fact that he showed up right after Charlie called her mom makes me even more suspicious. He said he wanted to help for his entertainment but he was missing for 7 years NOT doing what he did so no way he was still bored. Question is what was he and Lilith doing for the past 7 years. My theory is that Lilith does actually want to rise against heaven and left because Lucifer was too depressed to care about anything. So she sent Alistor to both look after her daughter but also help with the hotel to distract heaven from whatever she is actually up to.

Alastor had a deal with something far before getting into Hell, and it wasn't with Lilith.

Watching Lucifer, King of Hell, yell, "Take that, Depression!" while aggressively pointing at a rubber duck was... not something I knew I needed.

Glad to see Mimzy but also glad she's not sticking around. The hotel crew would be a bit too crowded. She has been on the Hazbin character sheets almost as long as Angel Dust (it's why in her song she has the line about taking a while for her to get there) and she was a background character in the pilot during Inside Every Demon Is A Rainbow.

Was also originally going to be Al's love interest which is obviously now more close acquaintances with a one sided friendship on mimzys end. But still glad that the details of the two coming from the same era stayed

Alastor has slaughtered big-name overlords. He has also slaughtered no-name loan sharks. However, every time he fought Sir Pentious, he let him live. Interesting.

Lucifer and Vaggie more in common than we realised.

This episode was SO GOOD. Also Lucifer being a shorty is just so adorable.

25:40 ok…why that line digging into me as much as Octavia’s, “Why does he hate her, more than he loves me?” And like, I know both of them are daddy issues-as are most of the characters from both shows-but the weight is still there, ESPECIALLY factoring in the delivery.

So glad they did the golden fiddle joke. Also, casting Jeremy Jordan as Lulu was GENIUS, man has done numerous stage and tv musicals and played Varian in the Tangled tv cartoon.

I have to say, the line "Who needs a busboy now that you have the chef?" is way underappreciated, especially in combination with the visuals. Not only does it show Alastor without his jacket for the first time (he is being literally "dressed down" by Lucifer), but Lucifer also delivers this zinger while literally "cooking" Alastor on the stove. It's not exactly the peak of visual storytelling, but I enjoy the details.

From earlier episodes we know that Alastor and Lilith disappeared from the public eye at about the same time. Then he just so happened to return, exactly when Charlie opened her hotel and could really use some help, help that he just so happend to be uniquely qualified to give. And now we learned that he is on someone else's leash... Anyone else think that the one who holds his leash is Lilith and she sent him with orders to help her daughter?

Anyone else notice that when Alister turned his head to talk to husker his voice filter disappeared when he said what is it

The Episode really made me like Lucifer. I think there is something so sad about him giving humanity the amazing gift of free will and then being confined to a place where he only ever gets to see those who would use his gift for evil and yet he still was hopeful and a dreamer but Heaven crushed him again and again so now instead of giving his daughter hope he would rather have her think that sinners are irredeemable. Also Ducks being so important to him because it reminds him of when he would share his dreams with his daughter is so sweet.

I love the song "More Than Anything" so much, it's so sweet. I literally got tears in my eyes when I listened to the song for the first time. Also, I got daddy issues to, so same, Charlie.

Something i noticed above Mimzey is the tattoo on her shoulder is Mammons symbol, it was on his shirts and merchandise

I love how Jeremy Jordan (Big Daddy Lucifers VA) sounds while singing and one moment in particular really stood out to me during the first song (Hell's Greatest Dad) when he sung "Champagne fountains, caviar mountains" he sounded like he was singing something from Alladin, it was so smooth and just clicked in my brain! Also, @14:23 when you ran your fingers across the screen while saying "he was being coy" was insanely smooth and clean, like that felt I was not looking at a 3D model and at a real person!

I think this is the first time I’ve seen Alicia dance. So cute and thanks for the reaction!

I absolutely love the fact lucifer has a golden fiddle, it's a really nice touch

Lucifer is literally the most powerful being in all of hell so yes, he could eat Alastor for breakfast in one chump if he wanted to. But he is like Charlie in that way, they are both incredibly powerful but don't want to use that to harm others. For as much Alastor annoys the fuck out of Lucifer, at least he recognizes that he isn't harming Charlie or being a immediate danger. If he had the slightest suspicion that Alastor was any of that for Charlie then yeah, he wouldn't stand a chance.

Alastor reminded me of the Slender Man when he whipped out his tentacles.

Big theory out there right now is that Alastor's leash, that Husker mentioned, is being held by Lillith. Something happened to Alastor and he made a deal with her, that's what I've been hearing at least.

I had been thinking that Alastor's goal was to get close to Charlie in order to try and learn what kind of trick is behind Lilith's power. Remember, she was a mortal soul too, but unlike the other sinners, she is second only to Lucifer in power. In Charlie's story in episode 1, Lilith was who empowered the other demons, and she was the one who birthed Charlie. Except, sinners are supposed to be unable to reproduce, so what's the deal?

I swear, every time I hear how Alicia says "Algorithm Gods" just reminds me just how adorable she is.

Ep 5 is where things really pick up big time, also Charlie is 6ft tall, lucifer is like the size of a normal human male around 5.6/5.8

I’ve never once heard Alistor use any swear words till this episode. It says a lot about how out classed he is compared to Lucifer and he can’t do anything about it. This is so awesome.
