This album is for me personally a Top 10 Hip Hop album - it’s more or less perfect IMO. This era of Kanye’s production along with Dilla was untouchable. Your Dad is right about John Legend - that dude is 😴

He has 3 classics for sure. Resurrection. Be. Like Water for Chocolate. Finding Forever also close to being a classic but it feels more like Be Part 2 so it doesn't stand on it's own as much.
J Dilla produced most of Common's _Like Water for Chocolate._ Since you enjoyed that album, you should *100%* listen to Slum Village's _Fantastic, Vol. 2_ if you haven't. It's produced entirely by Dilla (except one track, by Pete Rock). Albeit not well-known, it's the most important album in J Dilla's discography besides _Donuts._ One of the greatest hip-hop albums of all-time in my book.

This is an incredible BTG episode. I'm hoping for that Outkast Aquemini Reaction. I can bet a hot dollar your pop will spazz out on Da Art of Storytelling & Synthesizer
Absolutely loved the video! My dad introduced me to this album when we were just going through a lot in life and it’s really been there for me so I have a major emotional connection to it. Seeing you and your dad listen to it together was really such a great experience. Also I suggested this album a while back so thanks for getting to it!
Personally, I have Common as a Top 5 rapper of all time. His flows, metaphors, bars are top tier. There was just so many amazing artist in the 90s that it was easy for common to slip thru the cracks

Early John Legend was a delight! Loving these reactions had to hit the subscribe button. Keep em coming!
I love how much Pops hates in John Legend 😂 😂 😂. This is a great reaction to a classic album. Common DEFINITELY disappointed with Electric Circus (him and everyone he worked with weren't ready for what he was going for with that album and neither were we as listeners). Linking with Kanye was the best thing to happen to his rap career at that particular point. I would recommend reacting to The Light like you suggested, and also Bitch In Yoo and Sixth Sense.

LESS GOO YOU FINALLY GOT TO IT🔥 W Edit #1: i think the Everything I Am beat was meant for Finding Forever by Common which kanye also did most of the production and it also came out a few months before Graduation. Edit #2: You probably figured this out when The Food came on but they actually performed The Food on the Dave Chappelle Show and not The Corner
Haile Selassie I was Ethiopia's 225th and last emperor, he was crowned emperor in 1930 but exiled during World War II after leading the resistance to the Italian invasion. He was reinstated in 1941 and sought to modernize the country over the next few decades through social, economic and educational reforms. He ruled until 1974, when famine, unemployment and political opposition forced him from office.

I’ve only been watching you guys for about 2 months, but in that time you’re dad has gotten so much comfortable on camera and talking on the show and it’s been so fun to see haha. Love this album though, I got into Common after he spoke at a summer camp I was at in the late 2000s/early 2010s-ish. Seemed like a great, down to earth guy and I became a fan pretty quick
I never really got into hip hop very much. I feel like I could relate to the lyrics very much. Common, though, has been a good introduction for me. His lyrics, I feel, have more meaning behind them than most artists. Anyway, I've enjoyed listening to the commentary you two provide.

33:45 Just let you know Dilla got a solo (unreleased) album where he raps on it. It's called the Diary. Bunch of good stuff. Featuring Snoop or Bilal. Produced by legends of the game (Pete Rock, Nottz amongst others). He got also a posthumous album called The Shining (featuring Busta Rhymes, Common, Black Thought, Pharoahe Monch..) and obviously you can also listen to his group Slum Village. Basically, their "Fantastic Vol.2" is a classic and was the start of the Dilla sound that is now praised by everyone.
