Dacia Spring Review - Electric Car

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

This is a Quick & Dirty review of the Dacia Spring, the first electric car from Dacia (which is part of Renault).
As has been pointed out in the comments (thanks for that, Dan C!), The Dacia Spring is NOT manufactured in Eastern Europe (Romania), but in China.
I am not in any way affiliated with or sponsored by the companies that produce the products that I review.
If you have questions, please write them in the comments and I'll try to answer them. Technical information about the car can be found on the Dacia website.

    Great review, I think this type of EV will be a game changer. EV that we can afford and use as second car for families

    Thanks! I think you are right; for a lot of interested people, electric cars were just too expensive. A car like the Dacia Spring might indeed be the needed game changer.

    The 12V battery is used for lights, ventilation, radio, etc… these functions are 12V, just as in any other car (also more expensive electric cars still have a 12 V system). Only difference is that the 12V battery is charged by the high voltage battery instead of an engine driven generator. Fun fact, the high voltage safety switch is also part of the 12V system hence with a flat 12V battery, also an electric car won’t ‘start’

    Thank you for the explanation and other information, Roel P.! (I would have thought maybe some sort of transformer would be enough to be able to use 12V-gear/parts in the car...some kind of transformer has to be used to be able to charge the 12V battery, too, right?)

    @@quickdirtyreviews7654 Correct! The high voltage is transformed into 12V (or 14,4V to be more accurate 🙂) to charge the 12V battery

    As a Spring owner, you have to press on the open button of the key 2 times to release the charging port. One time to open the car (if you want to go inside for exemple) and another to stop the charge and thus releasing the charging port.

    The trunk size is not bad at all, is it? Especially for such a small car. (And maybe a guitar case does fit in there, as well. But I don't think so, and I did not think to try it out before we had to return the car).

  • @quickdirtyreviews7654

    @quickdirtyreviews7654

    That sounds good! In our case, when I shot the video, the range was around 170km in cold weather (around 5 degrees Celsius), when we had the Spring on loan for a couple of weeks in the winter. Unfortunately, we currently do not have a Dacia Spring at our disposal, or else I would have checked what range was given in the present (very warm - especially for this time a year) temperatures of 25+ degrees Celsius. I have also seen people claiming a range of up to 230km in warm weather conditions. Maybe that is on flat terrain? (We are in the hilly countryside, how are your road conditions in that respect?).

    @@quickdirtyreviews7654 Yes the topology of the terrain affects the range in a positive or negative way... But EVs are really efficient so if you go round trip somewhere you might come back with more range than anticipated if the terrain helps recover some of that energy, driving economically of course...

    @@quickdirtyreviews7654 Yes, the chairs for me are not comfortable and the driver door stopper/hinge(not sure what its called) has broken and it makes a high click sound when the door opens and also it doesn't have a heat pump so in winter the range drops faster if you use a heater also the glass used for the windows seems really cheap and i don't think it offers UV protection or any kind of protection and it does not clean very easily also overall the interior seems really really cheap. These are the negatives that come to mind at the moment :) But for me its a good city car and really cheap and in about ~4 to 5 years i will be traveling for free based on the current gas/electricity price difference.
