Players are either not good enough or they were tampered with before they even entered the portal so the portal was just a formality or they want an NIL payday before they will go to a school. None of those types of players will ever be desired by Clemson and Clemson won’t tamper.

Let’s see how they do this year with Luke, Riley and Rumph coaching. Recall, Clemson had that so called mighty FSU team beat last year. You know the one that was powered by all those transfers. One missed field goal away. The real issues were the QB play (bad decisions) and turnovers and to some extent the Oline.

Of course, what they were missing was TCU gets to that high level once in a while, just lined up for Riley that year. But Clemson's offense doesn't have the players. Also, that Florida State team wasn't that great as we found out so almost beating them at home, as did a number of other teams like BC, doesn't mean much. Let's also see if the defense keeps regressing. This year and next it will be all up to your new DC. He won't have Venable's top well coached players to rely on anymore. From 2015 to 2020 Dabo was in numerous championship games and playoffs. COVID hit. We're just getting past COVID and post COVID. Happy birthday and happy 10th anniversary. Buying all the wrapping paper is the epitome of you! You’re right on Dabo and the portal. Clemson can’t just blindly trust him because he won in a different era. He hasn’t won in new college football. I’ll get back to APR, but Dabo mentioning it is tone deaf. Clemson fans want to know what you’re doing to get back to the CFP days. Your academic rant is slightly off. Most people don’t care, but there are legitimate reasons to care. They do cross with sports. There are classes and degrees set up to make it easier for athletes. Admission standards aren’t the same. I don’t think many people expect it to be the same, but many graduates of universities want some standards for who qualifies as athletes. I want some standards and not everyone to qualify even if another place would take them, Smarter athletes seem to learn quicker and develop better from start to finish. The players are supposed to be there to get an education. I’m proud of the ones who get their degree and wear patches. In the old days they got to transfer easier. I love stories of players who get masters degrees before they leave. My stepson got a masters degree playing D1 baseball. He played a couple years of pro baseball and decided to move on. I know people think the commercial is cheesy, but most athletes don’t make money from pro sports. The message board effect is real. You don’t want other schools to trash talk you. People do argue over the academic reputation of schools even if they didn’t go there! APR does come up on boards. Minnesota had a down 5-7 year. Having the best APR of the 5-7’s gave them the chance to win the Motor City Bowl. The bowl doesn’t mean much, but they wanted to go and won. The NCAA wants better APR’s and so the presidents. The AD’s and head coaches get bonuses due to APR’s. They have a reason to care. You asked people about degrees. I’ve never known of a fan obsessed enough to track which degrees people are majoring in. Some of us care about APR. It’s nice to hear when people are majoring in harder degrees. It’s nice to have academic all-americans. Message board trash talk doesn’t usually go beyond APR rates. Conferences do care about APR numbers. They care about AAU, research, and academic prestige. There are many schools over the years that the Pac-12 and Big 10 haven’t wanted. 9 of the 10 teams joining the Big 10, Big 12, and SEC this year are AAU members. The SEC didn’t care as much in the past, but Mizzou, A&M, and Texas are all AAU adds in recent expansion. You’re somewhat right that academics don’t get touted as much when sports are good. People look for bright spots. Like anything in life, you hear academics a lot more from the people on top and alumni versus people who went to lesser schools or didn’t go to college. For the record, I’m used to seeing posts on message boards about academics each year. It’s not a huge focus, but everytime a new ranking comes out there is a rah-rah session. Academics don’t drive any ratings and that’s why they’re not on TV much. I’m going to root on college jeopardy and wheel of fortune. I’d watch an academic decathlon if it were on TV. I want my school to beat your school! For my final point, I’d like to go back to January. You probably won’t hear many Tide fans talk academics, but the ‘horns sure are proud. They rank pretty high in national and global university rankings and research. Anyone that goes there is proud of their degree. Some Texas people do talk academics and it does lead to message board arguments among various schools in Texas. How about those teams that played for the title? They’re only 4th and 5th in the world in research dollars. There are many global university rankings, but US News says they’re 6th and 19th in the world. The last time I averaged out their average world rank from all the sources I could find, they were like 13th and 17th in the world. I was looking at the latest graduate subject rankings today and look at all the MBA rankings. There are Huskies and Wolverines who don’t care about this stuff, but many alumni do care. We’re proud of the degrees and want past tradition to continue. I even care if the library is bigger or the campus is considered more beautiful! I want a bigger endowment and more athletic revenue and I say all that as a guy who has a masters degree from Washington. I know you don’t care about this stuff and most of the channel or public doesn’t, but some of us do.

It's not just the transfer portal, it's also terrible coaching hires.. The only thing I'm confused about is living in South Carolina Lotta clenson fans talk about and seem to think their defense is still elite, and idk about that, they don't play good offenses to prove their defense is good, a good offense will torch them

Well the reason kids are supposed go to college is to get an education. If that is not important, then let’s just start a minor league for the NFL for players who don’t care about going to college and let them play there after high school. Dabo doesn’t need the portal on defense, so why does he need it for the offense? The portal clearly is not the problem. It is the coaching hires that were the mistake. Resorting to the transfer portal admits you hired bad coaches on the O and they made poor recruit choices and they failed to develop the talent they had. Fixing the coaching is the #1 priority. If that gets fixed everything else will take care of itself just like it has on the D. Clemson offers the least # of players of the major college football programs.

Clemson's always been just a pretty good program so maybe fans are still content with being a lower top 25 team consistently. I don't get why Dabo is so against looking into tranfers. It's just a continuation of recruiting. Maybe some of the top players you wanted before you have another chance at, or maybe some of the players you thought weren't good enough are looking like they are, coming from lower teams or even top teams. They could want to leave for any number of reasons now. What Clemson fans also are forgetting is Dabo is the same coach who lost to South Carolina 5 straight times. He wasn't just automatically great. Kirby had Georgia beating a great Oklahoma team and a play away from winning the NC in Year 2. I think Dabo was dependent on great assistants. The magic is gone and it's not coming back just because they still have Dabo. I think he'll keep them somewhat relevant, but they won't touch a NC again.

NIL needs to be controlled much better van. It is now. It is way out of control. In my opinion, navigating the purpose of recruiting. It has now turned amateur/college football into professional sport by paying them. It may not be the college directly, but it’s because of them going to that college that they are getting that money. If they are getting paid that is a professional sport. They’re already getting paid by getting a free college ride and I can’t afford to go to college but they get it. And they sure as hell don’t deserve more money than a rookie in the NFL gets lolthat’s ridiculous.

@@crazyunclelou Im just going by what Clemson insiders have been saying and on top of not using the portal apparently their position coaches on offense aren't developing people properly considering both Cade and DJU were five stars. Also their Oline is atrocious which makes no sense considering they were also supposed to be studs out of high school

Clemson will really struggle the first 5 games. The last 7 games they should win. So they will start struggling. Likely will finish hot. 8-4, 9-3. Definite losses vs UGA and NC State. FSU could beat them and app state could surprise

Dabo is , and has done an excellent job. What has hurt him is that NIL has hampered his ability to recruit nationally. When Dabo won 🏆 he had QBS named Lawrence and Watson. No school is gonna have a QB like this every year. If you're ranked number 1 , you're program has gone down if you don't repeat. Who's been better ? BAMA , GEORGIA maybe another team or 2. GEORGIA has used the portal sparingly to grab an elite athlete. Clemson has a very good QB , just not a first round talent. Clemson will lose to Georgia and then win out the regular season. Dabo is a top 5 coach. He lost Venables to OU and that was a big loss. The worst record was 9 wins. You're doing youtube while Dabo is going down as a legend.
