I mean how many rappers who try to put on their friend make it? Fetty Wap tried putting on Monty? ASAP MOB,? Odd Future? Black Hippies, DreamVille, OVO, XO, of all these groups they all have that 1 popular member along with a 2nd semi popular member while the rest of the members are nobodies who only get known whenever they're on a song with the popular member. Being in the Shadow of someone else sucks because you'll always feel like a sidekick instead of your own mans. When you and a homie were coming up together and one of you got the attention of the labels you're always gonna feel dependent on your homie. Not only that but you're not gonna get the same support by the labels as your homie and will be getting hand me down beats and production along with little to no promotion relying completely on your homie whose gonna get annoyed and feed up trying to put you on. Not only that but if both of yall have the same kinda a style and your homie plays out that style and refuses to change is when your homie ends up falling off which means you're coming down with him. You can see why The Weeknd, Frank Oceans, and 69 split off from Drake, Odd Future, and Tippy Redd because they'd have ended up in the shadow being held back from their counterpart. You always ffeel you're riding someone elses's wave and knowing how rappers are they all got big ego especially the ones who are poppin and they let it known they can make or break your career which is why many of them lose their day 1s.
