    I have some shorts with a standard D3O insert at the back. I bought them after I fell on my coccyx and was nearly off work due to injury. I have since fallen on my coccyx countless times, and the D3O has always prevented injury, though the fall still hurts, albeit for less than a minute. I recently fell on my coccyx while playing hockey, and the next day I was unable to work, I could not stand without screaming in pain. My hockey pants were useless. I bought top end hockey pants, and now wear a D3O shorts beneath them. I have since fallen on my coccyx, and no injury, no pain, nothing. D3O is outstanding.

    If I was wearing a D30 back protector, and I got kicked in the back by a horse, how badly would it hurt? Would the D30 absorb all of the force? Or just reduce the impact?

  • @Andrew-my1cp

    @Andrew-my1cp

    It will never absorb all of the force but would definitely reduce it by a pretty good amount.

  • @Knoxvillemoto

    Really no armor absorbs the force completely. More so it distributes the force over a larger surface area resulting in lower stresses induced in your body.

    No doubt about it wearing this is better than nothing, but by exactly how much? Is it worth replacing CE Level 1 armor with this CE Level 2 D30 armor? We need a real video showcase highlighting impact force and absorption distribution, and further more a bone that requires the least amount of pressure to break should be the testing object. I just broke my collar bone and I'm trying to find out if going for D30(CE Level 2) armor is worth the money or not.

    oh, another think I would seen demonstrated: energy dispersion with you backprotector when a biker hits a tree and compare that with something as "lesser" like a tryonic backprotector from rev'it. I have a tryonic one (my seventh now) and hit my back SIX times on the track on crashes over 160kmh... 1 highsider which threw me 2m in the air and landed on my back on the tarmac, 2 times hit a concrete wall (once even on the edge where the wall started!) and ended once in the metal guard rail..... I NEVER had ANY pain in my back, because it spreads the impact over a much larger area, which I highly doubt these flexible ones will. but hey, if you are so sure about your product, prove me wrong!!!

    I've got a better idea..... Instead of making the traditional shaped elbow/shoulder pads why not fill a sheet of honeycomb shaped cells (to stop the fluid moving) with that non-newtonian putty (the stuff she took out of that wee tin) and cover it in kevlar and waterproof fabric then make a suit out of that? Maximum protection, maximum flexiblity and very little bulk. What do i know..... I'm just an ideas man.

    This stuff does not work quite like they say. I have the Icon D3O Viper back protector. As a proof of concept I had a friend hit me in the back with a baseball bat, it helped but it still hurt like hell. It's not as good as they say but it'll at least help. It definitely is, in my opinion, a much needed upgrade from the back protectors that come in most jackets. The D3O armor is a good purchase but don't expect it to do the impossible.

  • @StillAliveAndKicking_

    It will not stop a hit from a baseball bat, or a fall on your backside, from hurting. What it will do is absorb the impact, and prevent serious injury such as a fractured or broken bone. And the pain will disappear quickly.

  • @danielmoore1394

    @danielmoore1394

    Well, to do a truly scientific study, you would need to let your friend hit you with the bat (same impact) without the armor. Then you would have a basis for comparison, a control, if you will.

  • @AriaCannavo

    This is the same BS demonstration you always see with this stuff. They a take a glob of this stuff out of a can, cover fingers and hit with object. That's all fine and good, but your not going to be wearing globs of this putty. Instead your going to be wearing the foam. So the slight of hand here is that you have to tacitly accept the conclusion that the foam will exhibit the same protective properties as the glob. Well, if so, why not demo that. Cover fingers with foam and hit with hammer. They don't ever do that demo. Oh yes they do drop a ball bearing. How nice, but I'm not worried about ball bearings when I ride. And by the way, I took raw pizza dough, and it passed the dropped ball bearing test-don't recommend it as body armor though. Now, to be clear, I'm not saying D30 is BS, maybe it is as effective as claimed, but maybe not. I just want to dispense with the glob on hand gimmick and see a real demo of foam on body taking hit.

  • @osimnod

    @osimnod

    +jpcannavo Would you offer to be the test "dummy" on the foam and hammer to your finger or hand? I believe the point of the demo is to show and tell how this dynamic material is both comfortable and protective within he confines of the majority of expected impacts. For example, while riding on the street you don't expect to be impaled by a metal spear but it could happen; losing traction in a curve and experiencing a low-side slide-out is more expected and that's' where this material is truly tested. That's real-world.

    No the foam is not the same as the putty hunter craft. It's mixed with other things to stop it being a runny mess. So jpcannavo's question is a very legit one.
