This experiment proves the incredible power of quantum annealing over classical computation. The problem solved here is the simulation of spin dynamics which would have taken millions of years on the best supercomputer to solve and more energy than is available in the entire world. The importance of this result will become evident once companies obtain similar outsized returns for their applications running on a D-Wave computer.
