D.I.Y. Scrap Metal Auto-Turret (RaspberryPi Auto-Tracking Airsoft Sentry?!)

Ғылым және технология

Ordinarily I would explain why I built a project first... but frankly, the answer this time is "just because I wanted to!" So this is how I built my homemade autonomous AND manually controlled airsoft sentry turret!
This project was a great introductory project to the world of RaspberryPi for me personally. If you choose to replicate this project, there isn't all that much to it if you approach methodically, and I think it's actually more simple than many might realize!
Here is the video from the Hacker Shack KZread channel that I followed to create this:
• How to Make a Raspberr...
I have been interested in airsoft and paintball for many years, and this might be my final push to getting myself into some airsoft games with all kinds of D.I.Y. gadgets... If that's something that you want to see, let me know in the comments and by leaving a "Like" on this video!
Also, yes, I will be testing the turret against my invisibility shield sometime in the future...
I hope you enjoyed and learned something from this video! Make safely and know that I cannot be held responsible for any damages to persons or property as a result of your choice to build this project for yourself.
Best regards,
-Tate

Yeah some object tracking added in, a gear base the motor can run easier and faster, up the cams 3 on each side, of those 3 have one be an IR cam/Night Vision Cam/regular cam, add in 1 distance and sonar sensor between each camera group, up the battery pack to a 12V car batter and add a solar panel roof. Also noticed all the wires need to be shortened up and fully shielded. You'll need to modify the code quite a lot but the combined effort should take care of all the short falls seen in the video.

I would set up some sort of tri-camera setup, to where you have 1 regular camera, 1 night-vision camera, 1 thermal/infrared camera. That should prevent the camera from losing target as easily. I would also play with some sort of facial recognition software in the camera, so it can at least try to distinguish between targets.

It was my first cheap laser and it only has a small bed + needs a bit of modding to make it safe and useable.... but I looked away for a second and wondered why you were sanding the acrylic to make it fit instead of recutting it and then realised - not everyone has a laser :D Edit - there are bigger safer ones that cost more and have a cutting bed bigger than an A4 piece of paper. I upgraded to a Beambox Pro which does 400x600 (cheaper than a Glowforge to get here by a lot). Just comes down to how much you want to spend

Hey there kids, prior Electronics Tech for USMC here (Electronic Field Service Engineer for Civ Equiv), who served with Infantry. Pro tip for cooling systems for air fan systems like this. To help the life span of your equipment, place the air intake and air exhaust opposite of each other and have your higher energy consuming systems nearest the exhaust port, avoid cross style patterns, and do not have too much/many opening for "air flow" as doing so will actually cut back on the efficiency of your cooling systems. Also, if you plan on having equipment like this anywhere close to being out in the elements for extended periods of time, I recommend trading out for a closed cooling system, oil, water, or even just a Heat Sink Radiator system. If you're doing builds like this and want some good edvice from a guy who's seen it all in practice (not just theory) feel free to hit me up!

Nice job. As far as tracking goes you could go a few different routes for more precise results. LiDAR would be the obvious choice but you could also use motion detection software or an infrared heat sensor to track the enemy movement accurately. Well done though. Great to see.
