D-Day Air Preparations - Airfix | D-DAY 80th - Pt.2

Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль

With deception and misinformation rife, the Allies took to the air to deliver even more distractions for the Germans.
Special thanks to the D-Day Story, Portsmouth: theddaystory.com/
Building on the groundwork laid by Operation Fortitude South, they reinforced the illusion of the fictitious invasion of Pas-de-Calais. In the early hours of June 6, 1944, as forces made their way to the actual invasion points in Normandy, a small squadron of bombers and boats worked together to divide the Nazi forces.
Knowing an invasion force as big as the one heading to Normandy would almost certainly be detected by enemy radar, the allies set out on a plan to distract and delay German responses.

My comment is about Airfix more than D-Day 80th Anniversary - absolutely no disrespect intended. I really wanted to post in recognition of the decades of pleasure Airfix have given to me, with the cherry on top being a recent experience where for the first time in 50 years I had an Airfix kit missing a part. They responded very quickly to my enquiry, told me exactly what I needed to show them to get the missing part and then they sent it to me by airmail all the way to Oz. When the part arrived it made my day. I still recall getting the D-Day battle set, complete with large diorama base for Christmas back in 1977. It really deepened my growing interest in history, a subject I later had the pleasure of teaching. Many thanks, Airfix and I am loving the new kits as well as the old ones.

Interesting video. You might like to know that the chaff which was dropped by British bombers during the Second World War to confuse enemy radar, was called ‘window’

Absolutely. I’d love to see some allied infantry sets mid-landing with stuff like engineers with bangalore torpedoes, riflemen with plastic wrapped guns, beach battalion soldiers with explosives for the hedgehog traps; I think it’d be great for their beach landing diorama sets

Thank you for this interesting little video. I've seen a documentary on KZread about 617s part in the window dropping for the fake armada. We would be hard pressed to replicate such a mission today even with out modern 'advantages' I suspect.

This is an interesting video !!!!!! History and Models….. They go Hand n Hand…….. There was no specification on INVASION STRIPS… Some Thin , Some Thick….. I see so many modelers make them SO PERFECT when putting them on an aircraft… Sometimes they only put them on the bottom….. Interesting video……. CHRIS 🇺🇸

Actually, there were specifications, SHAEF issued a document titled Operational Memorandum 23 in April 1944 and after its original issue several amendments were issued with the one in August, I think, calling for removal of stripes from upper surfaces.
