HMMMMM so now you all know my pain huh? It’s been almost 5 years since this session happened and it’s wild to be able to show you guys it now. The part 2:50-4:20 was boarded by my friend Avery :3 Who is gothis player! So she really is the mind behind THAT scene. Hope you guys liked it and I had a great time doing it all. It's a move a lot of game masters use to press the players during a bad moment. Creating a countdown and taking turns despite nobody else moving. You could argue it's a cheap trick since it's effectively just taking free turns out of order, but damn is it an effective way to pressure players

It’s so surreal that.. I’ve watched this go from “So my d&d party of idiots summoned a terrask” to *sobbing* “Not the violent monkey man!” “You have to let go” I both thank and curse you for this amazing series

It's just how it is with role-playing games, man. My current character is sitting nicely, after traumatic character development, at a place of intense and growing trauma as she realizes that she just can't help but make idiotic snap decisions that get dozens of people killed and that the only rational way to handle herself is like a shuddering nuclear bomb - untouchable, perpetually alone, decanted only for violence. The overriding thought when I made her? "I really hope no one notices that I just statted a Sewer Shark."

You would think that A Robot God would have thought of that being an option. His mindless rage demonstrates how blind he actually was. It's a testament to Felix' writing skills that anyone else in that position would have battled to save everyone, but he was so into his narrative, he couldn't see.

I love when Felix asks, "third option?" as a DM I can understand the feeling. I love when players come up with their own things but, like a spectator watching a new movie, sometimes I don't see the twist coming.

I'd have suggested something similar really, though instead of simply overthrowing their monarchy I'd suggest Xanu do his job as a god and lead what remains to become better people and to promote empathy.

It's crazy that Dingo voices every character, but they all feel distinct. Every line is delivered brilliantly and with such passion, it's so impressive

There’s something absolutely menacing about someone asking you if the large amount of damage their going to afflict sounds about right to you Sips was as on demon time as the animation was

This is bullshit advice that lets abusers go unpunished. Not knocking the Fool's Gold crew, it IS very common and parroted everywhere. It comes from a perspective of making people harmless. It's easier than getting justice for people who suffered from abuse.

For all you little baby DnD'ers out there. Let this old veteran maybe educate you on something you might not know. The way this story is being told is excellent, but it's also offering something extra. You see, once the crystal is gone it is Felix who is telling the party "67%, 68, 69...etc." And it isn't Gothi who's telling Sips to hold on. It's Avery telling Felix to hold on. This is why Gothi looks to the sky. This is a powerful DM tool to get players to focus hard on something serious when this would usually be a "take your time" kind of scenario. Especially for something as built up as Sips's curse has been. The "Does a 27 hit you?...34 points of damage...his first attack." Isn't a "Ha! Gottem" line. It is Felix's way of saying, "Use everything at your disposal to survive." Take it from an old pro, kids. If your DM gives you a countdown. Do whatever story hash you have to and do it fast. Then attack with everything you've got!

I sometimes forget it's a 3.5 game, so the "his first attack" line had me go "oh yeah, Gothi is about to get wrecked."

Remember: this series started with "funny monkey does karaoke and releases big monster" and now we're all crying like literally babies What an amazing character development, what an amazing series

OMG, I just realized everything which happened to Sips this episode happened immediately after Gothi asked Sips if he trusted her and he said yes.

Okay but the scene between Gothi and Xanu is INCREDIBLE! I can't get over how Gothi just turns the tables on him with such confidence and love. She's a master negotiator. AND YOUR VOICE ACTING OH MY GOODNESS. INCREDIBLE. I _felt_ that scene in my bones!

DAAAAAAMN the immediate "put your money where your mouth is" moment after Gothi's speech about letting go only to be followed up with a basically dead Sips....this is how you write a story

And that is method acting, perfectly in character without any metagaming. Gothi could never have known and even later Xanu never told her that what she did caused Sips to lose control. Also in character but also dick move is Xanu not telling Sips that regardless of the curse he was going to die when the crystal exited his body. Only 1 person Xanu has empathy for, and that is Gothi.

The two big things that I took from this: Sips was so on the knife's edge that an act of kindness killed him This is the second time that Sneeze is unconscious when Sips is.

So I have a theory about those two: Sip’s…. Essence? Is in Sneeze, which is why Sips can understand Sneeze but no one else can beyond facial expressions. My theory is that if Sneeze dies/heroic sacrifices himself, Sips can be restored but Sneeze can NEVER come back. It’s one or the other and the party has to decide who to bring back. Also, would be kind of cool if Sips and Sneeze were sorta inhabiting the same body, like resurrecting in this manner would allow Sneeze to speak in a way about things Sips wasn’t previously present for.

@@gryphonsong4082 It makes sense We know they have some sort of lieline connection but its oddly 1 way as Sneeze has died, but Sips wasnt unconcous the only notable thing was SIps almost got lost to the curse. It would be really interesting if maybe Sips could be revived with Sneeze's souls acting as a preplacement for Xanu but less harmful. Sips gets to live on with a managable Curse but now Sneeze is more like an imaginary friend.

When she took the Crystal my mind immediately went to “the Curse is going to have fun”

So... that's it for Sips then... It's been quite a ride. On the flip side, I can't wait to see your new character.

Playing the scene like an actual D&D interaction is a subtle genius. Gothi actually responding to Dingo's counting. It really amps the tension, and hearing Dingo's voice, the NARRATOR'S voice, ask Gothi if a 27 hits. It's so scary. SO well done.

this series went from laughing every episode to crying every episode, goddamn what a storie. this could honestly be an actual series/movie line.

DND table at “A third option?” Felix looks very scared for his campaign. * Well, the others are like “Avery. what are you doing/plotting?” Avery’s smug smirk. “ Ha! Gotcha! Just trust me, this will be good.”

I really felt for Xanu. He's not a bad person. But that anger and pain was destroying him. Forgiving the foreclaimers was really more for his sake than them. It's funny, really. Even with all that power, Xanu is just a man. A man who was lashing out at the world because people tortured and abused him. Gothi hugging him genuinely made me tear up.

Wow, I played Fallout: New Vegas DLC Blood money, Or the Sierra Madre, It is a DLC of Letting go, i have an Inner Hatred and that DLC did barely anything to allieviate this self-destructive hatred, but this. This let go, Alot of things that fueled this anger of mine like a Steam train running on Uranium instead of Coal (which should be the main source). But now, I feel like i am finally letting go, I finally let out the things mentally that sparked this hatred, it's gone, And i feel as light as a feather, This surprisingly worked better than therapy, although it did help me from falling into a Pitt of despair, i feel better.

Upon revisiting the previous episode, I realized... Sips got his wish. All he wanted was for this to be over, and now he is finally free. He doesn't have to commit genocide, he doesn't have to worry about the curse... He can finally rest. I hope.

The anger that Xanu shows is absolutely heartbreaking. Every time I watch him talk to Gothi about what the foreclaimers did to him 9:50-13:45, I break down in tears. I can feel what he has gone through and the music greatly enhances those feelings as well. Dingo, you have created a truly beautiful moment. Thank you for sharing this with us.

1:46 "As the curse starts to take over: 67%, 68%, 69%, 70%, 71%, ..." Holy crap, that whole episode gave me the chills (that part was like a Mob Psycho 100 moment).

We had this in a different game, Mercenaries were after evidence of an artifact we had located. We weren't sure if their motives so asked each other not to show it about. Nect minute One of the party walks out wearing said cloak and a guard sees him wearing it.. My character sees him walk out wearing it and begins to berate him oblivious or not seeing the guard just the imminent danger it implies.. Both of us out of character very aware.. In character start an arguement about the pros and cons of having it out and to use it for good or not to have it on show.. the dm starts a countdown we ignore knowing the character opinions and knowing they are busy. the Other characters one sees the issue and deals with the guard that is attempting to head back and tell others what he saw. A great scene.. but you need players to play in character and a dm who picks up on it and continues the story knowing the story is there the players aren't ignoring him to be rude. but to play the moment.. It may be a terrible recreation here in short form.. but Just was sooo good and a rare roleplay event I've ever been a part of for it just to continue so seemlessly and all involved just understood and continued without explanation.. Best game I've had.

The emotional trauma this series has inflicted upon me is immeasurable. It's one of the best media pieces I have ever consumed. From the bottom of my heart Thank you

That might not be so easy with it taking both sips and xanu both consciously trying to keep the curse at bay before. Now the curse has full reign to do whatever it wants in that body.

"I'm so sorry for what you went through" but also "I'm so sad I had to watch it" and also "I'm so sorry for the pain I'm causing right now, but that doesn't change what I'm asking you to do."

@@evah3136Yes!! She’s so comforting because she HOPES Xanu will see that this really is all for him! I’ve realized Gothi is trying to save everyone in this series. Sips is obvious, she saved Sneeze, she’s trying to keep the foreclaimers alive, and in this conversation she is saving Xanu. You can feel her true emotions, the empathy! It’s amazing. She would’ve been a great leader.

You owe me compensation for medical bills for my shattered heart and my psychiatric bills for my therapy I desperately need for this one.

This Episode is just so good, the emotions behind the voice acting is just so real you can feel each word. I've been watching this series from the beginning, and it just keeps getting better. Keep up that great work.

People often forget that forgiveness isn't about saying those that wronged you were in the right, that what they did was okay or that you are willing to let toxic elements back into your life; it's about letting go of the pain, anger and anguish that is consuming and blinding you from taking a better path, and from giving those that deserve it a second chance. You don't need to accept the wrongdoing, just accept that holding onto that moment isn't doing you or anyone else any favors (as Gothi said, "it's like drinking poison while hoping the other person dies.")

@@arandomthingintheabyss2062 while I’m inclined to agree it depends on how wish is handled. For example In my game I do not allow my players to take the wish spell as a level up spell, and instead of they wish to learn to use it they must use a wish first to learn how to cast it. This makes a wish an adventure in of itself to secure.

The fight scene was choreographed amazingly, bringing in the actual roll numbers with the "in character" fighting was beautifully done.

I was getting so frustrated because my screen kept getting blurry , it took a minute to realize I was crying for literally most the video , this journey from the beginning has been amazing 👏

Well, shit, she gave Sips what they wanted, an ending to their suffering... and who would've thought Gothi's own words would twist back on her so soon.

Damn that whole talk between Zonu and Gothi was like the literal definition of what happens when an unstoppable force meets an immovable object

I adore how Gothi was arguing with the narrator herself as Sips was slowly succumbing to the curse. Also that fight scene was so incredible while still feeling DnD-ish. You and Avery did an amazing job on that one!

That ending gave me the vibes that "a meadow surrounding the corpse that refuses to rot" vibe.

@@deocks4872 Basically there was a D&D post where it was a cleric trying desperately to save a man who was already dead, casting healing spell after spell, to the point where it permanently infused the body and the land around it growing vibrant. What was left was a meadow filled with flowers surrounding a corpse that refused to rot or decay.

While i don't hate an entire advanced civilization for holding me for 300 years just because it kept their proverbial boners hard, i did have an all-encombassing self-hatred that plagued me and seeped out as aggressive and hostile with a friendly facade, Xanu's voicing his pain was the perfect conduit to mentally letting me do so too, finally letting go of my mentally shackled agony, i feel... so much better now that i stopped drinking the fountain of poison i so dearly drank for dear life. As a song goes, It don't hurt anymore, i've forgotten the pain plaguing me daily while reminding me what to look out for to not feel this pain.

This is the first episode I’ve cried for in a LONG time

When Curse stopped fighting Gothi, my first thought was that Sips would somehow find the mental strength to fight it back on his own. Hearing that he crumbled to dust instead is refreshing, and sad.

I honestly think that his soul got removed ya know. Because the description it doesn't make sense how Sip suddenly dies like this unless its because of the environment surpassing the curse or if it was some sort of soul magic Like Zanu's power. Or if it was the curse itself. Idk but I think due to the fact that Gothi almost died and she had the Crystal in her hand gives off the little clue that Zanu's magic got involved. Maaaybe

Got feeling when the DM has something devious to say and everyone else at the table is trying to comprehend something while it still happening a while. I love that feeling

100% curse sips is now the main art reference i will use for a Barbed Devil. just take that design, give him full on quills, and boom. i know his curse is suppose to be kinda crocodilian in appearance, but like... the spikes, the tail, and especially the smile, it works great as a barbed devil. just put even more spikes on and make them even longer and its perfect.

Why do I have a feeling that sips will come back stronger somehow

I love how Felix just leans over his DM screen being like "there's a third option?"

I'm flabbergasted and lost for words at how masterful this storytelling is Im also extremely torn between begging for murder monkey to come back, and feeling like Sips should finally be let to rest in peace, he's been through... WAY too much

But... With D&D, there is a literal afterlife for souls... If a body dies, the soul then goes on to the afterlife (or the nearest convenient soul crystal to be a power cell in the world's saddest battery). If... the soul is killed outright through corruption Sips just died the most painful death he could with the last bit of knowledge being his friend just unintentionally murdered him and he wouldn't be able to hold back a killing machine. Sips breaks down, bares his heart on his sleeve probably for the first time in his sentient life, trusts his friend and puts the fate of his very soul in her hands, then in a split second... the worst possible outcome, and no justice for Sips It hurts more knowing this entire mess wasn't even his fault, he was just a monkey doing normal monkey things and then powers far beyond him took him for a horrible, horrible monkey show

My GOD, the dialogue between Gothi and Xanu hit in the feels so much ! The whole speech about Forgiveness is an emotionnal wrecking ball, i've cried SOOOOOO MUCH ! Thanks you so much to ALL of you !
