Local riders lost the opportunity to show their capability to the world. Instead. They chose to sit and watch while the other professional riders led the race for over 100 kms. Thus, the biggest losers are the local riders.

My Take on the National Championship 2022: 1. My expectation was local teams against professionals to show the world teams and continental teams the potential in the local teams or individuals. However, what we observed in the race was to the contrary, i will explain. The breakaway had two professionals and zero local rider. So you expect the local teams to send one or two racers to the front to try to maintain the gap between the breakaway and the peleton. It they don't contribute to maintain the gap and eventually bring back the breakaway, there was obvious possibility the professionals in the breakaway to come out with the win and the peloton of majority local riders will come out with nothing and i don't think they came to the race to give the win away before they do everything in their capacity. 2. The way the local riders approached the race and the breakaway situation by two strong professional riders works only in the local races. Such way of racing doesn't exist in the continental or world tour teams competition. The race was broadcasted all over the world and foreign teams whether continental or world tour teams are watching to see if they can see a potential professional among the local riders. If i was a recruiting manager or agent watching the championship, i would be discouraged to try to recruit any of the local teams as they lack the approach to a race. 3. From the analysis and commentary that was given by a former team manager (Wedi Sihel), in the line of "The local teams need not work or contribute to maintain or bring back the breakaway as it is not in their advantage". Such a commentary made me realise the mind set of the managers of the local teams participating in the race. It is a bit frustrating and discouraging that experienced team managers would not read the race and advice their teams to contribute in the chasing group to maintain and bring back the breakaway eventually. In my opinion the team managers are not preparing their riders for future international or professional careers. I can say a lot from my observation of the race but those mentioned above are the major points i want to relay to anyone interested. At the end i want to extend my appreciation and admiration to the professional riders for making the race entertaining and i would like to congratulate both Merhawi Kudus and Natnael Tesfazion as the day winners and for Biniam Ghirmay and Meron Teshome for making it entertaining to keep watching.
