Posted this before, but I'll say it again. My first character inherited a large spider from a party member who died session one. Over the next year irl, my character not only named the spider "parker," but got attached to the point of referring to her as his daughter. His last words were, "make sure Parker goes to college, she wants to study web design."

I got 2. Aiden Baker: "One last ride." He then crashed a starship into the exposed engine core of the enemy capitol ship to take out the head of the alien fleet. A young runner with critical intel: "What do I tell them?" Inquisition agent Jason Jackson: "Simple kid" *lights cigarette with his nearly spent last one* "I held the line, like any other Guardsman. Also bury me with a few cartons of smokes. If I can chainsmoke unconscious I wonder if I can when I'm dead."

Not from the character's perspective, but I still like the phrase: "I crawl from under the train, take my picklock, and try to become too much trouble to be taken alive. If I can't, I kill myself with it" And yes, she managed to take a few enemies with her using said picklock.

"It's just a bunch of KOBOLDS, how bad could they possibly be?" Traalnin the Lv 3 barbarian, right before getting hit in the groin with a crit exploding arrow and two other traps. He didn't die, barely...but he needed a regeneration spell later to restore his dignity. On an unrelated note, Traalnin the AxeEunuch became a meme for a while in one of my groups

As a running gag for 40 years. All our characters dying words were. FIRST LEVEL CHARATERS!!!!!!!!

"Iron... is brittle..." Is one that will always give me chills. It was said by a prince of essentially a Russian version of House Stark. He said this to his rival house, the Blackirons. This especially chilling as the Blackirons basically did a red wedding(my dm wasn't subtle at all) and made sure to destroy his house honor, reputation, and history. It got to the point where he was the only one left and barely anyone remembered their house anymore and thought it to be fairytale instead. So this prince of House Sterling for the last 20 years has been fucking with Blackiron's in anyway possible. Even when he was beheaded we all knew he had won, even the Blackirons as this guys were very narcissistic and would normally never admit such a thing. In those 20 year he disminish House Blackiron power that they owned a drop of what they used to. Killed a lot of their family members, apparently he filled an actual graveyard. But left children, pregnant women, and anyone he deemed innocent alive. Let's not forget how he embarrassed the Blackiron's in such a way the current Queen chuckled, publicly. Thus was very degrading as the royal house of the kingfom rarely show any emotions due to a curse that made them act indifferent towards really anything. So imagine being embarrassed by your mortal enemy so much that your fucking queen laughs in public and said queen is known to cold as winter herself. And all the work thay had done to make sure so that everyone forgets House Sterling even existed was undone by the execution of their last living member. Now everybody will remember House Sterling because of it's last member as the noble house that fought femons for living to protect the kingdom. That it's last member was knight who saved the kingdom and its queen several times. That took on 6 orcs on his own. The man said "Lizards die in the cold" to literally a dragon when it demanded tribute. That his presence alone made a army of 100 men under House Blackirin surrender when he had only 4 men(the party, this was our first time meeting him as we got in trouble with a Blackiron noble and he just happened to be passing by) with him. And House Blackiron on the otherhand, they are seen and remember(me and boys finished the job) as backstabbing bastards who's greed for power led to their downfall. This character was definitely my dm favorite character. Now remember the name of Mikael Sterling, the Knight of White Scales and father of one daughter. Yeah it was fucking suprise when a his daughter showed up on his funeral. Our dm even admitted he added her for shits and giggles as this the last we heard of her or anything related to that kindom.

"I'll sneak down the tunnel." ... says the dwarven barbarian on his first session after replacing my previous character who died in the previous session... He rolled a 1 on his sneak, woke up the owlbear in the cave which did a critical hit on first strike and instantly killed the dwarf.

'finally' my old dwarf cleric, having just enough strength to avenge his family, living just long enough to make sure the deed was done, giving into his wounds, seceding his life, his final vision, his wife's hand reaching down to him, pulling his spirit free, his quest finished, finally at rest

My first and only character death that occured last month when our party TPKd against Themberchaud in OotA. My elderly deep gnome lady sorcerer glanced at everyone as she was consumed by dragon fire and had time to say, "Be good my dearies, fight the good fight.." before turning to ashes.

"I'm so sorry I wasn't able to get to you sooner... You've... you've changed so much..." - Nax Skyscale, Kobold Bard/Sorcerer, moments before being finished off by his human bardic mentor, whose disappearance was the very reason why he left his tribe, to look for her. She turned mad after months of torture by a rival group of adventurers, and started worshiping the BBEG, an evil eldritch abomination that wants to destroy the multiverse to recreate it in his image.

From a temple of elemental evil campaign, my loxodon barbarian who managed to get fire immunity from some homebrew quest, found himself in a position to stop the ritual creation of an orb of destruction. "Sure would suck if someone burst your bubble" before plunging a dagger into what was basically a nuke and taking the fire cult leadership with him -Hannibal the gladiator

“Welp. That’s to be expected.” Granted, this was a few minutes before his abrupt and sudden death, but he didn’t say anything between then.

Ill never forget the time I joined a campaign late as a level 2 drow named Plot Device... I told them my entire twisted life story in a dungeon moments before my death. The last words I said to the party were "If I dont make it back, find my wife's boyfriend and tell him I love him!" My actual last words while being paralyzed and cacooned by a spider were "AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH"

"Blood for blood,we go to death as equals. All debts paid,so lets burn." -My Tiefling Ranger to the BBEG while the party retreated from the bbeg's tower. His beast had been killed and he made a last stand in the bbeg's volatile alchemical ingredient storage. Que a ground shaking kaboom as the party just got clear. Pyrrhic victory as while the rebel lord was killed,many of priceless national tresures he stole went up in the blast and the ground around the blast would be poisoned for decades. Note it was the range's own screw up that lead to the rebel lord getting as powerful as he did.

Killed a wizard as a wizard using a claw attack after stupidly forcing my way though his magical wards, cause no one's ranged attacks had thus far made it through. His body goes limp as the the statue behind him starts to move. An angelic looking robot stired to life, now powered by the wizards soul and aimed it's arquebus at me point blank. "Oh... fuck... didn't think this through..." he fires and I slam into the entrance.

"Oh... I forgot how this felt. I'm sorry Narta, I couldn't keep my promise." Before crumbling to dust, for back story Narta was another player's character who was my character's adopted sister who he promised he wouldn't die. When my character died the channels on our communication rings were forced open by the fact that his soul was being ripped apart and back to hell. So Narta heard this, and felt it.

"Thats the last of em, we won." The last words of my first character Trayton Leon goblin ranger. Before being incinerated by the traitorous party wizard. Caught the lot of the party off guard at the end of a long fight.

Not his last words, but the GM wanted me to write a last will and goodbye. To My Friends and Loved Ones, If you are reading this letter, it means I am dead, or you have been snooping in my stuff. If I am still alive, return this letter and stop touching my things. If I am dead, keep reading. To my friends and family, to those I love, these are the last words you hear from me as I am dead. I want to thank you all for taking me in and putting up with all my shit. I know I am not easy to get along with and can sometimes be an asshole. I am very flawed, and I’m sure I screwed up since writing this letter. I want to tell you I love and will miss you in the afterlife. You can read the next part in private or as a group. "This was a calculated risk, and I find myself doomed by an unknown variable." -My Mythic Trickster after stealing the wrong buff (That he didn't know they'd cast on themselves) off an enemy. If he'd stolen the right one, the enemy would have been defeated. Instead he found himself within melee range of an angry mythic dervish who proceeded to crit him three times.

Tho my personal favorite was "kaboom" ....dr. William an artificer character of mine before detonating what was practically a magical nuke on himself to destroy a tarrasque (this was an epic scale campaign if you couldn't tell)

"It seems I was obsolete." - Alister, Hellknight of the order of the Godclaw after dying while saving his teammate who claimed that his lawful methods were obsolete.

Was in a Call of Cthulu game, playing a bootleggers. Was set in the 1920s, so cool. He carried a revolver and a sawn-off, and after the rest of the group had grabbed the book and we started running from the monster in the secret basement area i realized none of us had the movement speed to get out in time unless one of us distracts the monster. "Hey, fuggedabout me." As i shot the monster with one barrel, and the chain holding the door open as the last guy got through. He died a hero.

"Welcome to my final show!" - Lyn the Magician, as she goes out in a blaze of glory defending the Capital from an army of hellspawn.

@@athenaraines before dying yes overall no as he said one on the challenge the grim reaper stating "come on death let's have this dance after all I have a promise to keep"he then went on to win only when he revived the rest of his friends had died the leading him to challenge death again for their souls Once again stating "looks like we have to dance because I had again have a promise to keep and I won't let you force me to break that through cheating" that's what he did finally die but death feeling bad revived his friends just before his death so that he may keep his promise and his actual final words being "I guess these are my final words know n I tried as hard as I could use this gift given to you and finish our goal"

The last words of snorri morgrimsson, the int 7 wis 6 dwarf, "fine, I'll chase after him, but you'd better have my back!" He uh... he died alone, eaten by spiders.

"For what it's worth, I really am sorry." - my failed lich necromancer who finally got all his memories back and told the truth to the sorcerer who was searching for who killed his parents; it was my character, who used them to become a lich. My character then offered for him to get his revenge then and there. He took the offer.

“This doesn’t taste very good” As my barbarian eats a strange coloured mushroom and crust fails on two con saves.

"It appears that I am no longer a good judge of character." - King Lograth, before being stabbed in the heart.

"The plan marches forward. Open the way." - My Necromancer before his Contingency Spell triggers.

I had a character be the lone survivor of what would have been a TPK. It was due to a technicality as rest of the party accepted to take the trial of an Oracle's Tower, but my character was dragged in and when they all died, I was allowed to leave since I never consented in the first place. Years later a group of adventurers came to my Character's forest, including a familiar Ninja that was resurrected and my character immediately "Noped out". His Sister however was eager for adventure and went along. Sadly THAT whole party did suffer a full TPK including the Sister who stated before becoming petrified, "You were Right, big Brother..."

Deag sounds a bit like one of the very few bits I've seen of Samurai Jack. Jack is faced with a Viking (I believe), who'd been turned into some sort of monster or something (I'm pretty sure), and while he wanted to die, it had to be in true combat against a worthy opponent. Jack obliged.

'Tell my wife I always loved her..." "You were married?!" "Nnooo..."

"I have to do something." *Immedately gets obliterated.*

So I haven't played this guy yet (Pathfinder 2e), but Capten my skeleton pirate if he would make it to the end of the campaign... To his closest friend, "You have been the best first mate I have ever had..." Proceeds to take hat of head and put it onto their first mate. "...take care of the other crew members, captain." From there, he would walk to a grave yard and visit a tomb of a woman he knew 600+ years ago "I'm sorry I made you war so long. But I'm glad you found someone else instead of waiting for me." He would take a wedding ring put from the inside of his rib cage and set it down on the grave. He proceeds to leave the grave yard and hums bones in the sea to himself with an alternative line of lyrics, going to the port and into the sea and back to where he first woke up and takes his final rest. Yes, captain is meant to be a gut punch to the party, and DM. (He would be the old man of the group who hasn't seen the changes of the world.

"This is the exact reason I hate swords!" -my Elf monk after getting impaled by the Dragonslayer

"Run" - Jebediah, my halfling swarmkeeper ranger to the party as he fell to a pack of ghouls. The wizard and druid ran. The dumb paladin and barbarian did not, and they somehow stayed alive long enough for the wizard and ranger to run back and mop up. A phyrric sacrifice if there ever was one.

"Hm...I think I'll take a nap, I'm really tired..." "My body will break long before my will...uh...will!" "I never was your best lieutenant, boss..." "The f*ck's a landmine? *click* "

My fiend warlock consort before being clawed to death by demon gnolls " i should've gone to college"

My first character was a half elf wizard, and I died when I saw a black ooze under a door in some underground ruins "oh what is that black ooze under that door?" and I walked through only to get killed by a black pudding with my last words being "SON OF A-..."

"I want to go home." My barbarian, Kari Beastwalker, intercepted a deadly blow intended for our squishy bard. I was on two failed death saves when combat ended. Thanks Paladin! I had already decided to play a new character and had previously told the DM I wanted to change. Her death was an unexpected wrinkle but atleast she died as she lived.

Never been able to play but for the character I want to play first if he were to die it would be in battle potentially to allow his friends to escape. His last words would be his battlecry he does when raging "Yeroc STRONGEST THERE IS!"

Llyr Esau, Triton Fighter, confronting Strahd after a near TPK, after killing Ireena, as the only options for her was death or Strahd, "Ya want 'er bleedin' 'eart? Then have it."

My most memorable death was with a lvl 2 character. We had an encounter with shadows & an introduction to the BBEG. One of the party members got consumed by shadows & I was a squishy lvl 2 sorcerer that had 5hp left after a previous encounter. I used a pine crystal (portable wild surge) and while I don't remember the effect I got I remember what the BBEG got. He became enraged and attacked the closest thing to him which was me the aforementioned squishy sorcerer who got donuted Dio style. This leads to my last words. They were fairly simple, "Fuck You" before he detonated the explosives implanted in his head. Said explosives blew up the 23 sticks of dynamite the player consumed by shadows had on him.

"Finally I can put the fear of me into God" -Bork the Barbarian

"Hey guys... Make sure my funeral will be a blast, will you?" - Tristan, my paladin of Lliira, the goddess of joy and parties.

"It hurts" - barbarian, while my cleric facepalms (bard casted vicious mockery on "accident")

"No Varkim, IT'S A GOOD IDEA. Johny, hand me the fucking rope, I'm going in."

I’ve somehow managed to never die for good in a campaign. Closest I got was my Owlin monk who got crit by a gelatinous cube’s opportunity attack, but I was saved by Feywild shenanigans.

"It's worth it" TOA mild spoiler. Tribal, village-orphaned little goblin wizard. Lost all my comrades but the barbarian fighting. On the beholder floor, most of them. We didn't kill it, we barely escaped and was one man down. Dick took my arm, too. So my final act after the BBEG, was to walk in (I always get my initiative) I stared him dead in his center eye, despite his invisibility. I cast rope trick, and began (spider) climbing the rope. "You took many things worth more than my life, you shit, and yours is worth even less. But this.. it's worth it" Unhooking his bag of holding, and throwing it into the rope trick, in an instant, there was nothing. Absolutely nothing.

"Darn it...i didn't found...my new home..." - Scottish Fey Wanderer that was abducted by Fey from his original world and managed to escape to Sword Coast.

BBEG, fighting one of our last standing party members: "You really think that's going to work!? Me, the goofy street urchin thief character who just grabbed onto them from behind while they're distracted: "No, but this will!" I then proceeded to slam a large rock of a volatile mineral we found earlier in the campaign into the back of his head, the explosion killed us both and nearly killed the rest of the party too. Even with our victory the party was pretty torn up over the 14 year old in their care being the one to sacrifice himself.

"Let's see how far I can hit this zombie's head away" *proceeds to die from a yellow musk flower crit*

"Ouch! A rapier in my back? You always were a joker. Not sure I see the humor but, I'll live."

My only character death didn’t really get any last words. As we defeated the three BBEGs via a ritual my character disintegrated alongside them as he was a revenant. His job complete. He could only look on at his comrades as he faded to dust. Funny enough he did come back though. Fifty years later in his original body.

My first character had the last words of, "You were right Master, the negotiations were short," (DM, myself, and most of the other players were Star Wars fans) because I was a Dark Elf Wizard with the Haunted One background who spoke Draconic and caused the first session to end in a TPK because I tried to negotiate with a horde of Kobolds

"shit" my high elf 1 second before being splattered by a mountain sized boulder

"When I come back, I am going to eat you." She did come back. She did eat them.

“How deadly could it be”? After hit by poison bolt.

"I DON'T WANNA GO BOOM BOOM!" - A random rebel before he and his friends were tunred into bologna mist by a frag grenade in a locked room.

"Oof" said a tabaxi ranger before getting obliterated by a meteorite

Only one of my characters has died, and he was a lvl 9 rogue. They were all at the top of a cathedral, and a large ice explosion would wipe out the city, which was currently infested with demons. Most of the characters tried to run. I did not. Instead, I followed an example I set earlier in the campaign: right after the last boss, I spent the night engraving a bas-relief of the battle into my rapier. I did the same, and laid the rapier gently onto the roof, before jumping off and landing on the aforementioned boss' corpse.

“I can swim through the gelatinous cube no doubt”

My brother's catchphrase is "we're going to live forever!" He's going to be killed by the bbeg to start the final battle.

First character's last words: "I want to ride the giant spider"

Character: *staring down biggest threat he has ever faced* Character: *looks back at village he is protecting* Character: "Some deaths are worth dying."

"Shit this isn't the teleporting ring" My character said before being stabbed and burnt to death
