Fun video! In 5e though i never understood why the default lich profile never had fireball of all spells, they always need some extra stuff to work proper in a campaign. I always liked the lore behind them especially in someone becoming a lich

Liches.... Highly over used and criminally underrated. They should be the greatest of all evils in a campaign with hundreds of powerful underlings. Even vampires should fear them. The intellect of a lich should be vast and its necromantic power a horror beyond description.

6.30 to 8.00 😟 Someone really should do some Homebrew with the magic power of the Lich. Especially with necromantic spells.... (and everything he knows should be converted into a necromantic spell of sorts, he has time to research) 1) Magic Missle - appear as skulls, screaming towards the target in a poisonous grayish hue and BITE the target for double normal damage. Half necrotic, half physical. No save unless they have resistance to necrotic magic, then half. 2) Wall of Fire - appears as hungry biting skulls, anyone within 10 feet take 2d8 +1 per 2 to 5 levels of the Lich from necrotic grayish energy. Within 30 feet you save for no damage, fail take 1d4 Necro damage. Touch it? Take 4d8 plus 2 per level of the Lich, no save 3) Fireball - swarm of skulls or giant singular skull, double damage, save for half, half physical, half Necro 4) Lightning Bolt - spear of undead bones, double damage, half physical, half Necro 5) Globe of Force - circling biting skulls guarding the Lich in 5 to 10 feet diameter, blocks missle attacks for 10 points per level of Lich and anyone who enters must take 5d6 + 10 Necro damage, no concentration 6) Mantle of Blood - All cutting, piercing, blunt damage each round is "sucked" into the Lich to give him half that in restored HP on the last action of the round (as he raises his hands and smiles) free action 7) Tower of Bones - Lich is raised 10 feet (or more) in the air on a spiraling column of attacking bones. Those within 10 feet must Dex save or take 2d6 + 9 dam, within 5 feet 5d8 +9 dam (can you even reach him?) No concentration 8) Hold - undead of your imagination reach up from the foggy ground and grapple you 9) Darkness - same but whisper evil in your ears, as moving attacking shadows, -2 to rolls 10) Slow - Ethereal skeletal hands restrict you, head to toe, feels cold (-1 saves additional) 11) Cone of Cold - ghostly forms explode from the mouth of the Lich, freezing double dam, half physical half Necro, or all Necro save for half 12) Teleport - 1d6 Ghosts appear, circle around the Lich and whisk him away, anyone in 5 feet takes 2d6 dam from each ghost, no save or half Necro 13) Dimension Door - Undead rise from the ground, swallow up the Lich in a large boil, fall to the ground and appear at another location per limits of the spell, anyone in 5 feet take 3d6 damage from groping undead claws 14) Weather control - 2d6 dam from Necro acid (flesh only), slime, blood or negative fog, biting skulls and claws rain down for 3d8 dam, random damage from other sharp bones falling 2d6, bones start assembling for 1 skeleton per level 15) Summon Ghoul - any summoning creature spell, any undead appropriate 16) Death spell - Heart bursts out of the chest of the victim into the hand of the Lich 17) Fear (in lair only) - actually does 1d6 dam plus 2 per level of Lich in addition to normal effects to everyone in 60 feet, 4d6 plus to 1 victim, 2 points per round until dispelled or countered 18) Identify (if Lich has a specimen of victims blood) - Knows level, class, HP and fears of that party member. All Necro spells are -2 (-5) additional penalty to that person 19) Charm - victim thinks it is a fast, raging, hungry flesh eating zombie, hands only, bite only, serves Lich for duration (see 18 😳, has range on his property with this victim) 20) Meteor Swarm - 1 ten foot skull per 4 levels of the Lich scream toward the group, bite and explode for 5d10 plus 25 physical and 25 Necro, half that to those within 20 feet of the explosion that save 21) Locate Object - see 18, that victim cannot hide and reveals locale of the group, skull eyes while in effect 22) Polymorph Other - undead of some form, roll or whatever DM wants 23) Disintegrate - turns victim into plague of flesh eating, blood drinking insects You get the idea. Every spell should cause Necro damage even if the spell doesn't allow damage or an attack. Be creative. They should be terrified. "I smell your soul..." ● Mantle of Death - (visible gray aura) I think all necromancy spells should be max dam (or flat +10 dam per spell level) for a Lich, or save -5 penalty (or both), double range and a Lich should get 1 extra spell per level in addition to his normal spell slots. Or 1 free spell of necromancy per 5 levels, free action but only 1 per round. 20th level = 4 free spells, 1 first, 1 second, 1 third and 1 fourth (1 fifth at 25th level) but they must be his specialty spells, no concentration, no action, at will. Otherwise he is just another caster with makeup.

I once used a lich where the players had to go to a demiplane to face it only they encountered the wall of spears with ari elementals keeping them from flying over the spears of the fence so they ONLY way they could enter was through the gate and the only way the gate could be opened is to prick thier finger on a barb and then THAT character could get in only thing is the barb is hollow and takes a sample of their DNA which the lich uses to grow clones they take 2d4 weeks but here in this demiplane it takes the minimum time 2 weeks and it will take MUCH longer for the characters to get in to where he is so by the time they do get to him they have to fight themselves only they were turned into vampires as well. just getting through the gate isnt enough they need 12 keys and the keys are you guessedit skeleton keys, the 12 mounds have 12 skeletons one each and when they approach the deathkni...er skeleton askes a riddle and if they guess wrong it attacks, once they get the keys they can enter the manor but from there its attrition worse than the nine hells in every way I could think of to be a bag of dicks! Im quite creative.

  • @RichesandLiches

Thanks for watching and commenting! Osiris was EVENTUALLY deified as the God of the Undead that is correct, that is how he is known today. But before his final place in the Egyptian pantheon he was first a god of fertility. I assumed most watchers knew he is the "Judge of the Dead" but his origin story and lost parts was too interesting to leave out. Edit - Osiris was initially the God of Order. After Isis found his "parts" he was then deified and was given the title of "God of the Afterlife" (aka God of the Dead) and God of Fertility. But to your point, he is far and away best known as the God of the Dead... so you are most definitely not wrong. I had to go back and make sure that was clear in the video.... luckily it is :) Thanks again for the comments!

Whatever man! I bet I used liches in ways you have never considered. I use green dragons in ways you never considered. MOST of the time they players take out the minion and think its the kingpin and NEVER find out and if/when they do figure out that there is a bigger "boss" they never suspect just what not until they take down its last minion. You see people are so one dimensional about the greed of dragons that they NEVER consider that a dragon WILL and often DOES pay out when gains are inflowing. SO a green dragon while greedy will let its minions make use of magical items to protect and conceal the fact that ther eis a master green dragon. I called mine Byloxilluminanthaxuz toxic for common a venerable green. SO he had seven wyverns as part of his minion base they used ioun stones one to make the leader smarter others to absortb and so on they had a wand of illumination which they used to blind the pc's for a round with no savethe seventh wyvern is 400 yards away scrying so that if some or all teh wyverns die he can summon all thier magical items back to him then after the pc's leave he uses a wish out of a ring to ressurect his fellows and then they set up an ambush further down doing the SAME thing because they are wyverns after all and can only be trained to do so much. I called the encounter seven the hard way because they would encounter the SAME six wyverns seven times and never even see the seventh one unless they decided to try to look for another one which they never did.
