He said in a documentary for Voodoo that every track he makes is like one of his fingers- it’s a part of him. He takes his sweet time and makes, in my eyes, as close to perfect music as one can get.

Love this song. True Story: I met him years ago when I was a young girl working at a record store & he was such a nice guy. My coworker (who had no idea who he was) noticed all the attention he was getting & askex "who ARE you?!" He replied, "I'm just a regular guy who makes music". Lol ❤😁

I've never told anyone this (cause it's kinda embarrassing), but the first time I heard this song, I made it about 30 seconds into the intro before I starting crying because i had never experienced anything as emotionally raw as this album. And to this day, nothing else I've seen or heard has had anywhere close to the same impact. There's just something so... _raw,_ about this song. Vulnerable, but simultaneously powerful because of that very vulnerability (all his songs are tbh). It's just so immediately apparent that he poured his entire soul into this album. I hope he releases another one someday.. but even if he doesn't, I think this is still worthy of being considered his magnum opus.

I had to buy this album, even without hearing a single song from the album first. we have to get back to supporting artists like this. I feel that it's gonna take us buying their music for the radio realize they need to play it, and for the Grammys and etc to show them respect. there's no reason why an R&B artist like this shouldn't go platinum; this album only costs 10 dollars. hopefully we can get more good music like this on the radio in 2015 and drown out that other BS.

R&B as an art form has been in jeopardy for the last decade or so. I'm happy to support him and anyone who propagates the art form the right way. I'm glad he's back to remind people what soul music sounds like in its purest form.

EDIT: There's been 3 years since I commented this and my god never thought this would be a top comment. Thanks everyone for your blessings. D'Angelo is definitely one of my top artists due to have a unique style in the music industry. Wish he gives us a new project in a near future. PS: Still my favorite song until today.

Having ended a relationship with someone who, while proclaiming soulmate status, habitually neglected the most basic considerations, I wanted to know that on my deathbed, I might remember that of all the Beautiful and Ugly things we experience in life, I got the priviledge of waiting 13 years to hear an album so Beautiful, an 18year old kid would find it to be "the most beautiful song" they had ever heard. Peace to your family Kidd! Always listen to your parents. Peace.

Im making a point of buying it, this man, his band, the producers, the engineers, the technicians and all the rest deserve the money from my pocket for an instant classic of an album. I'm sure people were thinking the same thing in 2012, when it had been 12 years since his last album, then a couple years later got this. They clearly do still make music like this, because they made this. Is 8 years really so long that it can't be considered 'these days' anymore? Have all the other musicians participating in this production dropped dead since then? Did they all poof into existence 8 years ago, or were they making music all along and you just didn't know about it? Sorry, don't mean to sound so harsh, and I know times have been tough, but try to have some optimism, man! Just cuz it's not on the radio or doesn't seem to be as widely appreciated as it should be, doesn't mean there aren't talented, worthwhile musicians playing small venues and maintaining their craft, everywhere, all the time. Always have been, always will be. The 10 million people who watched this video are also still here, they are testament that a sizable audience for such music is very much still with us, they are all around us. We are not alone. Our cultural heritage hasn't been killed off just yet, hope for the future is still alive.

If anyone wonder of the Spanish intro : Tu me estás horrible ! Si, me amas ? Yo te quiero mucho. Todo el tiempo que pasamos. Lo que te quiero decir es que estas jodiendome la vida. Yo no quería pelear contigo. Solamente te quería amar. Pero tu eres muy celoso. Querías ser mi dueño. Pero yo soy libre. Quieres ser mi rey? No sé si confío en ti. Pero yo te quiero mucho. Translation: You make me horrible! Yes . Do you love me? I love you very much. All the time we spent. What I wanted to tell you is that you're fu** up my life. I did not want to fight with you. I just wanted to love you . But you are very jealous. You wanted to be my owner. But I am free. Do you want to be my king? I do not know if I trust you. But I want you.

Man, I remember listening to this album in the car with my dad over 5 years ago. I was only 9 then, but this really means a lot to me. For a while it was the only thing we listened to for years straight without it ever getting old. I may only be 14, but I'm glad my parents exposed me to what real music is. Nostalgia at it's finest
