They have done an update on the CZ515 tactical. The plastic fore end and rail have gone and is now metal. That block that wasn't sitting square to the barrel is now flush. So they have noted the issues and fixed them.

Same here with my 22mag.. first round or two are a good inch+ above.. then it settles down.. a bit.. It's been driving me crazy, so glad to hear it's not just me. It's now starting to jam a lot - not extracting the spent shell properly. Trying hard to clean it after use - vacuuming then blowing out the brass shavings so I don't have to pull the whole thing apart to get the bolt out... but it's all a huge pain in the arse. It's been a few hundred rounds to get me to the point of selling it.

CCI JHP 1875fps, 0.87 MOA and 1.3 MOA. CCI JSP 1875fps, 0.9 MOA (muzzle velocities are as claimed by manufacturer). These results were achieved with a bipod. Since owning, I have not had a fail to feed, fail to eject or fail to fire with the following brands of ammunition - CCI, Remington and Hornady. Great review. Absolutely 100% spot on. I have a 22lr 515 and it shoots just fine but is let down by the cheap and flimsy ATI stock. I was surprised that CZ would use a stock from a manufacturer known for poor quality products. I used a 1 piece cantilever mount on mine so that may help with the larger bearing surface over the standard ring mounts. I have also considered chopping the rail and mounting some rings directly to the receiver as the receivers on both models are the same. The only benefit of the tac version is it's very compact and easy to use for my 13 year old Son.

Glad you have yours dialed in well mate. I thought about chopping the rail but it holds the whole chassis system together ever so poorly. I actually thought about ditching the whole tactical stock and making my own timber stock but I just don't have the time or the inclination at the moment.

  • @krakentacticaledc

ATI did not supply the stocks uses on Aussie 515 they are manufactured and supplied by CZ using ATI design. I have a original chassis made by ATI for the 512 model and its rock solid but they no longer manufacture them. Also did you check that the 2 grub screws that hold the barrel centred and in place were tight as that could be what was throwing your groups out. Mine is like a laser out to 100m all day.

Thanks for the feedback mate and yes I can assure you I have spent more time on that rifle going over everything than I have ever needed to do on any other rifle in my lifetime. Whether the Tactical Stock is now manufactured by CZ or ATI is somewhat irrelevant as they are one in the same. The design and the way the picattiny rail is not fixed to the action is a recipe for possible inconsistency. I am glad yours is performing well but from what you have said your rifle isn’t a factory setup the same as what I have been referring to. Great job, mate. I’m running a CZ 455 in 22WMR, and ditched the glue-lam ( Boyd’s, I think) stock for the MDT LS-22 chassis. Works great. Taking headshots on bunnies out to 80-90m with Hornady V-max and body shots with Winchester 42g subs. No need for resighting on the change, just using the subs in the nighttime, so as to not piss off the neighbours. I’m lucky that out immediate neighbours are very happy for me to clear their rabbits for them, and actually buy me a box of ammo for each one I get. Keeps my plinking a whole lot betterer. 😜

@@BoltActionProductions one question, if I may, about these new fangled not-quite-semi-auto-lever-release rifles. Not having played with one in person, can you change the lever to the left side of the rifle? As a righty, could it be set up with a normal thumb around the the pistol grip, onto the lever, without moving the grip position, keeping the finger on the trigger? All the images I’ve seen show the bolt release lever on the right side only, which kinda sucks, having to keep flipping the thumb off the grip, hit the lever, then return to a firing position. Having said that, watching a review of the KelTec Sub2000 with a California compliant setup with a ‘fin’ on the rear of the grip to prevent it being held like a pistol ( weird in concept, considering it is effectively a pistol) and the reviewer ( a former spec-ops type) commented that it actually forced a better grip, not wrapping the thumb around a pistol grip.

  • @BoltActionProductions

Andrew the lever can be swapped to the left side but it does require a little bit of action disassembly. Whether you will reach it with your thumb, I doubt it.

I also bought the bigger nine round (again from Horsely park), and in more than fifty pervent of cases it will fire all nine rounds. Though the first round needs to be massaged through the breech for fear of jamming. If i go down to eight rounds, i can happily shoot all day with no issue at all. I tried six types of ammo, the two stand outs were - Hornady v max 30 grain like what you tried but even better again and what felt far better shooting was the CCI maxi max forty grain. Looking forward to the next one champion.

@@cato7669 True I suppose, only drawback is I splurged on "a few" speed-d-loaders (tube magazine). I do like the concept (tube magazine), but there's not much on offer (I have a Henry lever action, I can't fault the rifle - it just doesn't suit me "well"). Maybe an old JM stamped Marlin 39a, but I gather I'm not the only one with my eyes open for one!

Cheers Robert. I put a lot of time into testing and trying to get this rifle to shoot well but in the end there was too many engineering issues that weren't going to be solved easily. As I mentioned the barreled action was very reliable but the combination of the tactical chassis just didn't fuse together well for a variety of reasons. CZ hasn't contacted me and nor do I really expect them to. I just hope they improve the overall construction in time to get it right. Thanks for watching and your feedback mate.

I know next to nothing about engineering or rifle design/construction but would adding that bit to the front for the tripod etc have had an impact? Forgive me if I'm wrong but if the tactical version is the same as the timber version, being that it should still have the same holes tapped into the top of the receiver (under the chassis top rail) then could you not simply drill a couple of bedded holes through the top rail and fix it to the receiver? This would surely bring the chassis and receiver together quite firmly...

Sorry for the very late response.. I can confirm, after having 3 extra screws machined through the rail to the top of the receiver, that it has completely fixed the first shot riding high issue. Very thankful this worked as I'm really enjoying shooting the rifle.. I've had no issues since. Not one ejection problem or accuracy inconsistencies.. the three extra screws cost around $280 at my local gunsmith.
