Cycling Tour de France 1997 Part 3
Спорт
The 1997 Tour de France was the 84th Tour de France and took place between 5 July and 27 July 1997. Jan Ullrich's victory margin, of 9' 09" was the largest margin of victory since Laurent Fignon won the 1984 Tour de France by 10' 32". Ullrich's simultaneous victories in both the general classification and the young riders' classification marked the first time the same rider had won both categories in the same Tour since Laurent Fignon in 1983. Despite the doping case against Ullrich, he has not been officially removed from the results. The points classification was won by Ullrich's team mate Erik Zabel, for the second time, and their team Team Telekom also won the team classification. The mountains classification was won by Richard Virenque for the fourth time.

Oh those great old days of EPO era ! I may be against all cheaters, but I can't deny the show was awesome with Jalabert, Virenque, Pantani, Escartin, Casagrande, and Cie.

We lived in blissful ignorance, believing this was all down to talent and hard work. Would like to go back there rather than cynically doubting every single notable performance. This was Indurain's last tour? Riis and Ullrich were like machines, and we now know why. I've got at least 3 of Indurain's wins on VHS. Finding a player is almost as difficult as going back to this age of "innocence"...

Ullich look small compared to future TdF. Armstrong and doping aside, Ullich has only himself to blame for not kept his body in good shape during the winter.

Love Ulle,always.
You could also say 'despite the doping cases against every classification winner and top 10 rider, the results all still stand.
Jan Ullrich in der Form seines Lebens, ein unvergessliches Erlebnis.
Jan, did a great job winning on EPO! Good guy, nice personality!

If the uci wants a clean tour they need to make the race a lot easier.

Most of The natural category riders wouldn't finish the course inside the elimination time, that's a horrible idea. If u want a natty tour you need to make the race easier and shorter.
The race those days was tough no helmet.
@ynotnilknarf39

You should look at the facts, since UCI made helmets mandatory that era has more deaths and more injuries. Riders take greater risks thinking they are protected and yet sadly the helmet does not prevent death or brain injury. This is replicated in all countries with helmet wearing laws.

We all talk like now cyclists are completely clean... but are they? Anyway, the Tour today is boring as hell, I miss these great old days with epic mountain stages, attacks far away from the finish... is it too crazy to wish cycling had 'open bar' under medical supervision?
